If you can't have a full English, the next best thing to set up a day is a bacon buttie (bacon in a buttered roll). The debate is whether to have it with tomato ketchup or brown sauce. If you want to get messy, add a runny yolk fried egg on top of the bacon. Heaven.

Sven Linton

Bacon, potatoes and bread, yes please! And cheese!

Adventures and Naps

Just had Crumpets for breakfast, specifically because you mentioned them on this post. Hadn't had them for years. The best butter delivery system known to man.

Dave Elkington

As for shop bought pork pies, lots of them are nasty. Try a Dickinson & Morris one, and you'll never go back to the others!

David Powell

bacon and potatoes are like the perfect food groups.

You should cook your own Haggis for a video.

I think God level should have only Three: Fish and Chips, Banger and Mash (With brown gravy and glazed onions) Steak and Ale Pie.

Now then - Alanna - I’ll let you into a little secret about how my late wife always made what SHE called Welsh Rarebit. I always thought that this was how EVERYBODY did it - but it seems I was wrong! Imagine a bowl of your favourite, grated cheese - now add a couple of well-beaten EGGS into it and mix it all up with a wooden spoon! Heat that mixture up in a saucepan - stirring all the time... like scrambled eggs with lots of cheese in it..!!! When it’s cooked, dollop THAT on top of your toast on your plates! Sheer heaven! All my grownup kids now do it the same way - perhaps we should give it a different name, but that’s what we always knew as Welsh Rarebit! Try THAT sometime...?

Cornish Pasty - pronounced “PASS-tee” - look ‘em up on Wikipedia! Devised originally as a complete meal for the Cornish tin-miners, they contained a mixture of minced beef, potatoes and mixed vegetables in one half, while the other half had a fruit filling for their pudding! Nowadays, they are all savoury, with beef or mutton as the meat component, and are much more than a mere snack! Substitute a pastie for a meat pie as part of a ‘proper’ dinner, on a plate with potatoes and other veg - YUM!

I felt quite indignant when you said cauliflower was “like a sad version of broccoli”! REALLY?? I love both of those, but - of the two - cauliflower has by far the strongest and most distinctive taste! Not necessarily with cheese, I hasten to add, but steamed with a main meal, with meat, potatoes, other veg and gravy - cauliflower has always been one of my favourite vegetables since I was a kid! You always knew Mom was cooking a lovely dinner when you could smell the cauliflower boiling! Having it with cheese is a relatively new thing for me - but VERY tasty!

Kippers are smoked Herrings, filleted and opened-out flat. VERY popular with the Scots - and more or less everywhere else in the UK, I would say! I don’t find them anything like as smelly as, say, mackerel (for example) - and they are VERY tasty, Alanna! The bones in them are hair-like and completely edible - there’s nothing quite like a tasty kipper fillet! You should try a boil-in-the bag version, that has a pat of butter inside (no cooking smells!) - delicious with chips or mash, with peas or any other veg of choice!

Black Pudding can be sometimes yummy and other times not so much... a lot depends on how the fat content is dispersed in it. Ingredients are, essentially, cooked pigs’ blood with some pork fat to act as a binder to stop it crumbling to powder! If the fat comes in large globules that you can chew and taste, then that’s completely ‘yeuck!’- but when it’s well-interspersed in tiny dots, it can be lovely and tasty! Either served cold with a salad, or fried in a Full English or as part of a ‘mixed grill’. Tip: do not eat the skin!

Unspecified 😩😂

Cheers Sarah!!

All you can eat roast for £3?? Should we be worried about that roast?

Adventures and Naps

Thank you! I didn't do anything this year, I usually forget until it's the actual day!

That's just weird that crumpets got such a high rating - nothing wrong with them at all but no way are they in the same league as the others. On the other hand bacon sarnies get a 'hell yes' from me, especially if the bacon is crisp, comes with either brown or red sauce and is served with a mug of strong tea from a van at the side of the road!!!!

I love staying in Scottish hotels - haggis for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What’s not to like about spicy porridge mixed with unspecified animal bits?

A pie is baked a pudding is steamed, i think its the kidney in both of them that puts people off them. Pie and Mash is a meat pie mashed potato and liquor, the liquor is a parsley sauce variant hence its green colour. I don't know how Crumpets made the list and toast didn't. Thanks for the vid.

Arthur Gatward

Oh and crumpets show the problem with the scoring system. Very few people will have tried them and not liked them. 80% of people quite liking something = god tier

Simon

Thanks for the video, I wish I had some bacon now but I would freeze before I got home if I went out for some. I hope you’re well and having a good weekend.

Black pudding... Yeah I think eating congealed blood is a very acquired taste. Not for me. Kippers are just fish - They stink the house out. Never personally had them but my Grandad used to love em. Bubble & squeak I guess depends on how you make it, I have certainly never seen it served like that. But at the same time I don't really disagree with it being on low tier, it is basically just mash/potato and cabbage. Nothing to write home about. Beef wellington I'd actually like to try some time, but it's not something I have ever had. Pork pies.. I used to love them. Back as a kid I would get them weekly, but pushing 40 and they just aren't what they used to be. It's really hard to find a good pork pie these days. But you should never buy from a supermarket, a good porkpie you want fresh from the butcher. Cornish pasty? Honestly? Boring I'd have put it in low tier. Stick a good fresh sausage roll in mid tier instead. And Cauliflower cheese? How is that not in crap? Cottage/Sheppard's pie top tier? No way. They are basic boring bitches. I would stick em with Hot Cross Buns and call em the food equivalent of watching paint dry. Bacon sandwich? Top tier maybe, but not god tier. Fish and chips should only be God tier if they are from the chippie. Homemade doesn't count. :P For Yorkshire pudding I think they mean the proper ones, not the tiny feckers you might have with a Sunday roast. True Yorkshire pudding is a big ass plate sized Yorkshire and you would fill it will meat and veg with gravy and use the yorkshire as a kind of bowl. I do love a good crumpet, but they are not god tier.

I love about half the crap Tier and I'm ok with everyone else being wrong No way bangers and mash should be above toad in the hole! Pie and Mash is a dish served in London. Beef pie, with mash and most important liquor. Which is parsley sauce originally used to cook eels. You can often get jellied eels at the same places but they are horrible A pudding is made with suet and steamed. Makes for a very different experience and hard to explain. Very much a love it or hate it. I'm off to make a full English

Cornish Pasty 😂 you might wanna get the Butler to tell you how to say that properly 😂 Controversially, I don't like a lot of British food! *runs & hides* Apart from everything in the god tier, toad in the hole, scotch eggs & pork pies, the rest is all pretty low in my opinion lol... Could be wrong but I think the difference between pudding & pie is the type of pastry/how the pastry is made.... Great video! I'm now gonna go have a sausage sandwich cos I've got no bacon!

Happy Belated (Canada) Thanksgiving! Did you celebrate the holiday in any manner? 🇨🇦
