Update on Matt Cardona/Zack Ryder-WWE

Well, maybe not one night. But Matt Cardona did appear on the November 14 episode of Smackdown in the John Cena The Last Time Is Now Tournament. He took on LA Knight in a losing effort.
We confirmed with Matt Cardona and WWE that he isn't signed to WWE, and for now the appearance is a one off. WWE sources confirmed that there is a merchandise deal, which is why you saw Zack Ryder merchandise hit the website.
We haven't learned why they used the Zack Ryder name as opposed to Matt Cardona yet.

I always found it odd when a former TNA guy in NXT shows up on TNA with their NXT name and vice versa. It makes me wonder if it's even worth it for WWE to give them new ring names different from whatever name they've used elsewhere.
