Answers: Concussions, Orange Cassidy, MJF

Welcome to Select Answers, a short feature that provides some of the answers to questions that were posed to Sean Ross Sapp in the most recent Fightful Weekly Q&A Podcast. The show drops every week on Fightful Select for subscribers.

On Wrestling Observer Live this week, Hook was on and dropped that he was still out with a concussion. Up until that point, we didn't know exactly what his injury was. Why is it that concussion injuries have to be kept secret in pro wrestling compared to every other injury?

It will eventually change. When we first started breaking news, contracts were very taboo as well. To the point that some fans still act like it's deeply private information. Concussions, and injuries in general are much more private information than contracts. Concussions in general are touch and go. You think you're okay, then you might not be. Some people are fine within a day, others are never the same.

Checking in again on Orange Cassidy

Orange Cassidy is not expected back in the ring any time soon. They feared he sustained a torn pec. He could always make an appearance, but he's sidelined for quite some time.

Could MJF and his representation have grounds for legal action against WWE for getting him removed from trailer?

No, and I don't think he would care. It's lame and petty, but largely harmless and just isn't a thing that really matters.

is there any heat in the locker room on kairi sane for the liv injury, so soon after zoey starks?

There is zero heat whatsoever. Zoey's was an accident that happened when she jumped off the top rope. Liv's was a freak accident on a basic move. Kairi was very concerned backstage.

Comments

MJF should definitely sue. It would be amusing seeing WWE forced to pay big money for their greed and pettiness

Aristidis Fantis

One other note about the concussion thing, along with most other injuries: once they are diagnosed, those diagnoses are considered Private Health Information (PHI) and are covered by HIPAA, so, for instance, if Michael Samson told SRS that Hook had a concussion, he would be opening himself up to a lawsuit if AEW or WWE ever denied Hook a future contract and it was believed to be because of that information, which is outside the realm of possibility, but not entirely inpossible. Hook (or any other wrestler who gets hurt) can release that information on their own, but any healthcare providers AEW employs or contracts with are bound by HIPAA and shouldn't be releasing that information. (Probably worth noting that agents, producers, and other wrestlers aren't bound by that, so the information is still going to get out.)
