Coming down to get a good look at the little weasel she's about to smush... But bringing her face that close to a sheriff with access to TNT couldn't possibly end badly, right?

About time that fox stopped lazing around and helped out!
Nothing too exciting this week, I'm afraid. Just some necessary sprites for the fight.

Just in case any pesky weasels hiding around the edges of the arena thought they could avoid being reduced to a stomped slurry.
The previous stomp animation is intended to have sweat too, I just need to get around to adding it!

Something to be finished up on Thursday. I still need to add the unfortunate victims, the gas effects, and I want to do an alternate grind animation for ending of the non-gas version.
But at least I got the cow drop done!

Four grabs to cover the four quarters of the arena. Nowhere to hide!
I'm planning to have grabs with the right hand will go into a chewing animation, starting with Texas being dangled over Roxxie's open maw, and grabs with the left hand have Texas dropped between her chest and squished like a weasel in a trash compactor!
I'm also going to try putting what I've got so far of Roxxie into Gamemaker on Wednesday, to see if I can address some lingering doubts/issues I need to clear up with this concept. All primarily to do with the differences in scaling of Texas and Roxxie.

All that ass and she decides to use her tail...
This will follow-up into something more exciting if Tex gets hit though.

I'm hilarious.
Anyway, here's a simple sprite of the macro-sized Roxxie turning around to get ready to do one of her butt-based moves! Which will probably be the most devastating of her moves.
Edit: Added the missing shine to Roxxie's cheeks.

A nice close attack to smush any pesky weasels who think they can hide beneath her.

The arena's actually going to be bigger than show here. It'll extend out to the edges of the screen when Roxxie starts breaking things, but these are her basic attacks by which she does so!

Something quick I put together for fun, but it does highlight one hurdle that I need to get over going into this final fight: Roxxie's sprite is scaled up to 8x size, while April and Texas are 1x size.
I think the trick will be scaling Roxxie up for any sprite where she's not directly touching Tex, but drawing her full-sized for grabs and KOs, so that we don't end up with a situation where her pixels are eight times as big as Texas's!
Anyway, just idle musings. Enjoy the picture!

And we are back to regularly scheduled viewing! Sorry it's been a bit of a dry gulch around here, but I wanted to keep things a little secret in the leadup to the demo release. Now that that's out of the way though, we're back to animating!
Roxxie needs a lot of new sprites in her macro form, so we're starting with the most basic of the basic: The idle!

Hey everyone!
I've been trying to get into the habit of releasing a game demo, using the following week to fix the slew of bugs that inevitably follows, then taking the week after that off, but with very few and very minor bugs being reported this time around, I have little to do this week. As such, I'll be taking this week off instead, and hopefully using the time to work on the prized from the competition, and be back to streaming next week.
Take care everyone!

Minor update to fix two tiny issues. The quickdraw game over screen wouldn't restart if you pressed spacebar, and I left a bugtest number in. Here's the new link:

Here it is! Part 4 of Texas in Trouble. The showdown with Roxxie Roo! Not much to say about this, just that I hope you all enjoy it, and that there aren't too many bugs... The game is getting to a point where older laptops won't reliably be able to play it due to how much of an extreme memory hog it is, but I'm still planning to do a bit more overall polish and update it to Gamemaker 2 for a proper final release, which should help with those problems. For now though, enjoy fighting the big bad roo herself!

Hey everyone!
Just a quick post informing you all of where we're at, and some exciting news to come. I am currently working on the Roxxie quickdraw sequence, which is coming out very nicely, and will be working off-stream on the Game Over sequence for that tomorrow. The Quantum Knight game nearly has its first 'level' complete, but I want to also do a boss before that sees release. I did, however, figure out how to make loading screens in Game Maker 2, so that when I eventually port Texas in Trouble over to GM2, I'll be able to load batches of sprites at a time, and not have everything frontloaded leading to the awful startup times it has now.
In other news, last year I held an competition to win an animation based on the best chapter submission to the Adventures of Texas interactive story, and I am planning to run that again starting next Monday. I've posted some preliminary details in journals on DA and FA, but will have more solid details when the competition begins in earnest. You can expect it to be basically identical to the last one I ran though!
That's all for now! Take care everyone!

A few assembled sprites I've done today for the Roxxie Quickdraw sequence! I want to make this a longer loss, with a bunch of taunting dialogue and building dread before it reaches the game over countdown, so it required a little more than the other quickdraw sequences.
Enjoy!

The first game over animation for the new game. I'm planning for each enemy to have one of their own, and their own game over screen. Though to accommodate the amount of work that is, I'm going to try and simplify them a bit, like this! (Which still took me three and a half hours...)

Howdy everyone!
Just a quick update to say that I've now updated the game with the long-promised gallery to view all the unlocked animations! Some animations work better than other but on the whole I'm very happy with it, and it was well worth the week's straight work it required.
For now though, it's less than an hour until Christmas Day for me, so the festivities commence! I'll be off on break for the next week, and return to streaming on the 3rd of January, when we'll continue drawing ever closer to the end of the game. But for now, I wish you all a wonderful holiday period, and a fantastic New Year!
See you soon!

Merry Christmas, everyone!
With less than an hour remaining in the week, I have finished the long-promised grab gallery, complete with sounds and screenshake! Admittedly, it works better with some animations than others, just due to the nature of how I imported them in the first place, but all of them are in there, and finishing a level will unlock all of that level's animations!
The gallery viewer has a few play functions to mess around with, but I hope most of it is self explanatory. The skull button (usually, depends on the animation) will trigger the KO portion of the move, though you can also hit the loop button to just have the animation loop without needing to press anything (again, depends on the animation).
Additionally, pressing 'C' while viewing an animation will fade out the UI so that it's not in the way.
And with that, the holiday period begins.
See you in a week, everyone!

Hey everyone!
I started work on the gallery today, after promising it for the longest time... I think I'm pretty happy with this as a layout. As you can see, this a sample version for Caramel. The window on the left will slide out of the way when you're not selecting an animation, but in it you can tab between Caramel's moves, Caramel and Jacks's moves, or Jacks's solo moves.
I'm also planning to allow the player to either watch them at normal speed (at which case they'll play and loop in the middle section until the player presses the skull button, triggering the KO), or go through them frame by frame with the arrows.
Finally, the background will either be the stables (as seen above) for Caramel and Butterscotch, or a jail cell for everyone else. Animations will be scaled to the biggest size they cleanly can be without leaving the frame.
This is actually looking like it's going to be more work than I expected, but this has been a promised part of the game for a long time now, and I'm going to get it done!

Back to work today! This was meant to be something simple and fun to do while the game compiled, but I actually just got really into this and made it a full animation. Even exhausted, Butterscotch is still a threat when provoked!

Hey everyone!
The completed Roxxie demo has just been released, as you may have seen, which contains the fight in her entirety, as I want it to function. However, I still have the quickdraw segment, the cutscene stuff surrounding the fight, the level select and gallery stuff to do before the public release, so that will be next up on the chopping block!
As always, however, I will be taking a week off with the demo complete. The last few times I've done this I've left a week in between the demo's release and the week off, to catch any bugs that need fixing, but I don't foresee there being any major issues this time around. If there is anything dire and immediate, I will fix it on Monday, but if not, then I will see you all in a week's time, where I can start working on the final bits of the Roxxie fight!
Enjoy!

Well, here she is! Roxxie with all of her grabs, squishes and ways to torment a weasel (and occasionally a fox). I still haven't added level select functionality, that comes next, along with the quickdraw segment, the cutscene stuff and the addition of a gallery before public release!
For now though, enjoy the Roxxie fight, the sheriff squashing, and let me know if there are any issues!
