Christmas offsprings - second batch

Happy Christmas Day everyone ❤️🎄 We truly hope you had an amazing Christmas Eve yesterday, and if you celebrate christmas today, we hope you'll have a blast!

Here comes the second batch of offsprings. Since it was so many we're splitting it up in two posts. If you can't find yours here, then it should be on the first batch. If you can't find any for you in either of the batches, you must sadly have been too late to put in votes on discord. But worry not, we will definitely make more batches in the future! PS: If you click in on the picture slides, captions will show up at the bottom where you can see the names of the horses owners!

Feel free to reach out if you want us to send you the sheet over email or discord, the quality might get butchered from saving from patreon!

[Tutorial] Horse scars

Hello everyone. I hope you all are having an amazing day ❤️

Today you'll be getting a picture tutorial on how i make scars. More exact horse scars.

First of, human and horse scars do look a bit different, especially during the healing process. Mainly because of their coat, as well as their skin, as it is of course different to a human skin as it grows a thick fur out of it. So that is an important factor when searching for refs. Look up animal scars.

Scars will also form differently depending on the wound. How deep the wound was, where the wound was located on the body, how well it was looked after during the healing process etc.

Because of the horse skin color under the fur will it also look different.  The majority of horses have a darker skin color under their fur. Double creams (like cremello) do not however, they have almost pink.

Scars can come in different forms and types. But I'll be showing three.

The ancient scar
This scar is that type of scar that either takes forever to heal, or just won't heal anymore than this. Fur also have it hard to grow over because of the scar over the skin. The skin is just too damaged.

1. I start off with the shape and a greyish color as the scar have made so the skin have lost much of its pigments.

2. I then adds a bit of tiny white dots/strokes inside as dry skin off the scar.

3. I then highlight the outside as the scar will still be "under" the fur that is around it. I color pick a light color from the horse and just makes that color a tiny bit brighter and do a bit blending to it if i think it looks better.

4. But as the scar also is under the fur do it need a bit of shadow. I put the shadow over the scare base, but under the highlight. I use just a dark muted color. Color pick from the coat and make it darker or more muted.

5. I then color pick from the fur and draw fur strokes around and a bit over the scar, to frame it in. If you've a fur brush can you try to use it for this step, or just blend the strokes so it fades in with the coat.
And it is done!

The fresh scar
It might look more like a wound than a scar. But with only changing the base color to more dark and muted with time, will it look like it is turning more and more into a scar. With time will it turn into the ancient scar, or that you can make it smaller and smaller until it will completely heal.

1. Start with a pink light color as flesh is a bit of that just under the skin. This is the color you can change with time.

2. Color pick a dark color from the coat and turn it a bit more greyish, this will be the shadow inside of the scar at the top, but i also put it under the scar of the outside of it.

3. I then color pick a light color from the coat and make it a bit brighter. I put it over the scar and inside at the bottom of the scar. I also blended it a bit.

4. I added a few dark red dots, strokes and things inside of the scar to give a bit more contrast.

5. Then as with the other scar, color pick around the scar to draw fur brush strokes. Done!

The lightning scar
These scars are a bit hard to make as they might look a bit wonky up close. But more zoomed out do they look pretty ok. So I still want to show you how i make them.
The lightning scars looks a bit like the horse got shot by a lightning bolt from the shape they create when they are trying to heal from the wound.

1. With a greyish color as the base do you make the shape of a lightning bolt or simillar. Color pick a light color from the coat, make it a bit brighter and draw some stroke here and there in the middle of the base. Blend if you think it is needed.

2. Color pick a dark color and make it a bit muted and draw shadows both inside and around the scar.

3. Color pick a light color from the coat and make it brighter and add highlights over and under the scar. I blend the highlight it a bit here.
I then added a bit more shadows inside of the scar

4. Light color again and draw very delicate lines in the middle of the scar.

5. Added a bit more highlights over the scar and under and blurred it out.

6.  Then the color pick fur thing over and around and blured a bit.

You can ofc also try to change the opacity of all these scars, it will looks the best with the last type of scar, like here ⬆

I hope you find this tutorial useful ❤️

Breeding applications

Hello friends ❤️

As a part of the advent calendar, and since several of you have requested it, we have decided to open up for breeding applications for some of our horses!

We will offer 4 horses each for breeding, but if some of you want an offspring with N/A parents we can make those too!

The tricky part with these applications tho, is that the main part of it will happen over at discord.

To save us unnecessary work by making offsprings to each and every one of you, we have now put up a poll over on discord where you can vote for either which sire you want to use, or which type of horse you want, or simply not vote at all if you don’t want one!

You will have 48 hours to submit your vote in the poll, after this we will close applications and there won’t be a chance for an offspring this time around.

Click on the link right here if you aren’t a part of the discord group:

Free item - western bridle

Hey guys! 🤠

We're continuing our western journey and now it's time for a bridle; say hello to Barret!

Barret is made to match the previously released western saddle, so it comes in the same colors, but you're allowed to recolor as usual!

The bridle comes without a bit, so it's both easier to adjust to make it fit your ref, but also so you can pick whatever bit you want! You're fully allowed to use your own or other companies bits if their terms of use allows it.

Really hope you like Barret as much as I do!

Hope you'll have an amazing monday and upcoming week ❤️

Monthly mystery box - December challenge

Can you believe it's December already? 🥹

Every first Sunday of each month we will post a monthly challenge, that comes with one or more mystery boxes. The "boxes" contains items, props, tools, brushes++ you can use in your artwork. The challenge is to create something that includes all items in that box, put them together and create something amazing!

Each month we will try to focus on a theme and every box will contain new and different things. This month's theme is "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" 🎅🏼🎄❄️
Let your imagination run wild, there’s no right or wrong here!

A little preview...

If there's more than one mystery box included in the challenge can you mix and match if you want to, but if you really want to challenge yourself, try to stick with only one of the boxes!

The intention with these challenges is to give you motivation to work on something new and different. Maybe it's not always easy to find inspiration to create something? Then this might help!

You are of course 100% welcome to use these items separately later, they are not only for this challenge.

Here's a hashtag you can use if you decide to post the monthly challenge: #NSMonthlyChallenge

We really hope you think this is a fun idea and that it gives you inspiration and motivation!

Horse shading tutorial/guide

Hello fam! How are you all doing? 👋🤎

In today's post will I be sharing a speed drawing video that I made into a tutorial/guide about shading horses.

In the video can you both read and see the process, but here comes a bit of a summary:

▪ I use a soft round brush on pen pressure, but also change the flow to around 20-30%.

▪ I start of a bit messy with tracing and shading of the line art.

▪ I always work/shade in sections.

▪ I change the size of the brush a lot during my shading.

▪ I only use the smudge tool for certain details, not for the whole shading. So i mainly just use the paint brush.

▪ I go over the same area many times.

▪ I go in with a smaller size of the brush when i've done the majority of shading for my section to bring out some details, both for the shadows and highlights.

Trust the process.
Because the thing is that much of my shading is just coming from the feeling I get while working, how whimsical it might sounds like. It is not much of a super complicated process i'm going after, i just let my hand and muscle memory do the work. It does sound so repetitive i know, but the more you do it, the better you will get. Your hand and muscles will learn with time.

It is also easier said than done, but do not have too high expectation. A big part of my way of working is "does this look like good shading for a leg? Yes it looks like a leg, good enough". It doesn't have to be perfect or make 100% sense anatomically all of the time. It is just art after all.

If you now feel like: "But Lucia, I'm new to shading, this all feels like such a big step"
Start small and don't aim to shade particular details from the horse. Pick out the larger muscle parts of a horse. You don't have to include all of the tendons, joints and muscles, it is ok. It is better to focus on some parts and get comfortable with those than to go all in directly to shade everything from the horse. Then you eventually can take the next step and maybe shade more details.

I hope this all was to any help. Remember you can always drop if you've any questions in the comments or over on discord.

Feel free to pause the video if you find it hard to read the text before it disappears. Also normally I draw eyes with colors, but since I started off with the eye (which is the opposite of what I normally do) I decided to do it in greyscale, but it works the same if you do it with colors.

Free item - show jumping kit

Heeeey guys, guess who have missed you? We have 🥺 though we haven't been far away and have tried to be some what active on discord, but we sure have missed creating and sharing content!

First of all I hope you have had an amazing summer ☀️ with some time off we're now ready to get back into the game, and we're starting off with something new, different and big!

Today you're getting an entire kit with different show jumping obstacles, which means you can build you own jump! Here you can get endless of different variation, just let your creativity run wild!

Underneath you can see a couple of examples of how I decided to put together some of the elements.

(the foliage arch and the pole has here been recolored)

In the files provided you can find separate stands, poles, boards and decorations and you can mix and match however you want, use the decor underneath the poles, on the side of the jump, totally up to you! You're also allowed to recolor if you want to! You might also have to change position/direction a bit for it to work perfectly, but all in all it should be very easy to put them all together.

We will definitely make more jumps (and in more angles) in the future, so stay tuned!

Hope you'll have an amazing week to come 🧡
