GORGON libretto preview

I trained an AI model on my watercolours.

This is me recording an excerpt of my libretto of 'GORGON' the opera, accompanied by my latest flute composition. I made a little abstract movie for you to get a flavour of the setting.

This marks the beginning of a series of stories told through flute, voice and AI which I will reserve for patrons only.

FIREFLY Performance Excerpt

Hi! Here's an exclusive peek at an excerpt of my flute performance FIREFLY from last month at the Centre d'Art Contemporain Geneva. 

I have several new major projects that I'm excited to get to announce to you. 

First is a live performance with LAS (Light Art Space), to be staged in Berlin this September. The performance picks up on Blue Moon and is a contemporary retelling of the myth of Athena and the Gorgon. It will include a multi-part flute choir and AI visuals and audio. 

I'm also beginning on a massive new film installation, which will premiere at Hamburger Bahnhof next spring. This one still hasn't been publicly announced, so please keep it to yourselves for the time being! The installation will examine football and masculinity through a cast of stop-motion animated football mascots. I'm also planning to film live-action segments that include professional footballers as actors.

I've also been making new watercolours, crowns, and testing out a new series of wax faces.

Spent today burning the shit out of my costume, and adding a psycho atonal section to the music.

FIREFLY rehearsal

Hi everyone, here is a little video of the dress rehearsal for FIREFLY, a live flute performance coming up at The Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève.

I'm starting to get the hang of my set up and have played around with loops and effects, e.g. delay. tremolo, echo, pitch shift, whilst still wanting to retain the flutiness of the flute. I'm working my way through jazz scale theory. Today was all about the half diminished 7th. I've got miles to go, but really happy to see my musical confidence improve over the last couple of years.

On the night I'll have extreme hair and makeup created in collaboration with make up artist Chaïm Vischel. Expect black insect eyes, needles and horns :)

These copper and pearl wings and headpiece were lovingly handmade in my studio by Collette Vermeulen, who has just started a 3 month internship.

Watercolour Sketches + Live Session

I'm currently plotting out a mythical AI-opera centered around the flute and breath. I always like to move fluidly between text, music and image, even if it’s only for me. I’m working between Word, Scrivener, Ableton, flute and paper. Here are some initial watercolours which give you a glimpse into the opera.

I'm excited to announce a live session on February 22nd at 7PM CET / 1PM EST / 10 AM PST. I'll do a short flute performance showing off some of the AI audio software I've been playing around with, and then I'd love to chat with you all about what I've been up to and hear your news too!

New watercolours, crowns and books

Greetings from Los Angeles, where I am enjoying a very different side of the world until the end of Feb. I crave new landscapes and often get down under dark skies - who doesn't? -  so this is giving me a moment to recharge and research for upcoming projects, which I will be revealing very soon. I am staying in a cute bungalow apartment where Walt Disney housed his writers!

Here are two new watercolours which I finished just before I flew. I am developing new techniques using masking fluid and more saturated colours, and been looking at centaurs, donkeys and amniotic sacs.

Also pictured is a bronze crown in development. I sculpted the crown out of wax, and then an armature is carefully build around it and bronze poured, and the wax melts out. Next the foundry will cut away the armature and polish it with a golden patina. I love how archeological it looks as a raw cast, like its a 5000 year old relic.

Edition boxes

Hope you’re all having a wonderful break wherever you may be!

I finally gave in to the pillow after a sleepless year. It has done me a lot of good.

I thought I’d share what I’ve been up to the past few days: making my video edition boxes. The way artists present their videos can range from a simple USB stick to solid marble encasements. It has taken me years to develop my own signature, and it continues to evolve. I have chosen custom engraved wooden boxes with hand cut foam inserts. A hard drive fits into the box on which a vinyl print of the film still is fixed. On the drive are the film files, press images and an installation manual. An authentication certificate is also provided. Here is a step-by-step peek into my over-the-top fastidious box making process.

Secret rehearsal video

I wanted to give you a glimpse into my rehearsal for a new performance taking place tomorrow for the annual gala at Berlin’s KW. I’ve invested in a clip mic which allows me to move when I play. This is a big gamechanger for a wild spirit like me! ☺️ sorry the sound quality is a bit shit on my phone and I look like I’m biting a lemon but hope you enjoy! x

Behind the Scenes of POSSESS

I want to share with you some BTS from my flute performance last week, POSSESS, hosted by Société, where I commemorate the launch of my OGRESS NFT collection.

Here I am feeling fabulous with my bald head and devil hair-horns, designed and applied by Una Ryu, sfx artist of The Severed Tail. The application only took 5 hours 😂 and I slept in it overnight.

Cover Girl + Ask Me Anything!

I’m about to fly to London tomorrow morning, to show new work at Frieze London and premiere the new single channel edit of The Severed Tail at BFI London for the London Film Festival.
