Mirror Fix

The mirror in my studio is a valuable tool. Just as important as the charcoal and newsprint I use in conjunction to create drawings of my own image.

It has a tragic break in the glass, I'm going to repair it!

Today's Drawing

Another stylized, yet faceless, self portrait drawing recorded in real time as it is made.

Drawn with my homemade charcoal on 18 by 24 inch newsprint.

Selfie in Three Parts

Upon completing today's drawing, it occurred to me that I've become accustomed to not drawing my face. In part, I feel that it is because standing so close to the mirror and focusing on shape, form, line, etc. I fail to actually see my face. Stylistically, it's helped to create some interesting drawings, but I do plan on re-introducing my face to these drawings!

Today's instant pic gives a peek at an almost completed painting! I'll post more in depth information on that soon.

Today's haiku:

Staring at my face

I just forgot to see it.

It is still there, though.

Behind the Scenes

This is a behind the scenes look at how I capture an instant pic for my selfie in three parts.

It is in real time, and yes, I often struggle that long setting up the tripod for my camera! Today, I even accidentally took a photo I hadn't anticipated. It is pretty apparent by the look on my face in the resulting accidental pic. While the instant picture itself only takes a moment, there is all the set up involved and it's all shown here!

Selfie in Three Parts

I had a very productive day outside. Working about the yard and doing some much needed maintenance: picking up fallen sticks and branches, wrapping up garden hoses, and mowing. I enjoy this kind of work, especially on lovely autumn days. Undoubtedly, I'll have to repeat these tasks countless times, probably as soon as next weekend. I'm okay with that. It reminded me of a saying. I've reworded it slightly to fit it into haiku form:

It is often said

The reward for work well done

Is even more work.

Installing a Skate Brake

Join me on YouTube for a new adventure!

As a fairly new skate boarder, I've had some struggles and steep learning curves. Nothing so steep or scary as stopping (or slowing down) when coming down a hill, though!

I've installed a new braking system on my long board and tested it out!

Black Test

There was a time when I'd sworn off the color black. Not as if it didn't exist, but in its use in my art. I wouldn't use it, as I had a tendency to mix so much of it into my paint in the process of mixing colors. It would easily overwhelm a painting and make it look muddy, dark, or even frightening.

Times have changed. While I still use it sparingly, I also use it more wisely. Not in mixing with other colors, but more as a tribute to its darkness and depth. With great respect of the pigment, I now seek out the blackest of blacks. I have two paints here to compare and contrast. Musou Black, and Black 2.0. See for yourself which is darker!

Heart Among the Clouds

A behind the scenes look at the process of incorporating my new patterned work into a part of myself.

I've shared before that this pattern was inspired by a dream, I conceived it in sleep and woke to create it in reality. It has quickly become part of my self. This is a more literal interpretation of art becoming part of me.

Brake Check

In yesterday's Tuesday Update, I shared a modification to my long board that I'd been working on. Today, I put it to the test!

I'm not usually very good with change, so adapting to a new braking system did take a few tries for me! I am pleased to report that I'm pleased with the update. I was so excited to share it with you!

Wednesday Walk

This has been the most colorful autumn in recent memory. Trees are bursting with color and the confetti from the seasonal transition is scattered under my feet!

A walk through the woods in autumn makes a lovely setting for this Wednesday Walk!

Tuesday Update!

Happy Taco Tuesday! Here's everything going on with me so far this week.

Lots of projects, and a slight mishap on the long board, all reported on a truly beautiful afternoon!

Count

Taking inspiration from, "Grapefruit" A Book of Instruction and Drawings by Yoko Ono.

In this seemingly simple act that is reminiscent of a childhood pastime, I set myself up with a blanket on the lawn. It provides me with a comfy spot to complete the simple instructions:

count

count the clouds

name them

Buzz

This is "Buzz", which I feel will ultimately be a component of an overall piece later on. It may include a poem, and printed material. As for today's purposes, I just wanted to share this small aspect of the creative process. Not all finished ideas come through cohesively or all at once.

Consider this a behind the scenes look with the intention of more to come!

Selfie in Three Parts

Today was a happy mix of the bed of summer and autumn. Warm sunshine, blue skies and light breezes!

A haiku:

The autumn’s first breath,

Perhaps summer’s last gasp,

Kissed the treetops’ leaves.

Stick Habit

I'm trying to form a stick habit.

While that may seem arbitrary, you can watch to see more! It's always been a struggle for me to establish a routine, which may be in part to not fully understanding what all it entails to create and form a habit. I did some research, though. Here's everything I found. I think the stick habit may actually, uh, stick?

Autumn Hike

Join me for a beautiful hike on YouTube. I love being outdoors in the fall just as the leaves are changing colors, plus there was the added challenge of a few suspension bridges!

White Rose, Blue Sky

It's been a busy day of editing and trouble shooting.

I recorded this little video experiment in time lapse. I wanted to see how having a subject in the foreground would work for a sky-lapse. This will likely be used again in another video, possible on YouTube. I would call this a success in experimentation, and thought it was too pretty not to share with you!

Wednesday Walk

Today's Wednesday Walk takes me into a hidden canyon along Snake Creek. It's a beautiful area rich with history. From Native American tribes that once sought out these waters to a series of industrious paper and fabric mills that thrived before the Civil War to a present day zip line course, nature trails and inn.

I enjoyed the hike immensely. The leaves on the trees have just begun changing colors and the weather was a pleasant mix of warm in the sunshine and cool in the shade!

Tuesday Update

Happy Taco Tuesday! The week has barely begun, but I feel like I've got a lot to share with you!

This is everything that I've been up to (so far) this week. Including building shelves for my shelves, readying for winter and progress on the painting currently on the easel!

I hope you're having a great week!

On the Easel

So much progress has been made on the big canvas currently on the easel! Progress goes so much faster (even in a time lapse) when I'm holding my paint palette. However, I did get a cramp in my hand, so I made a modification.

I'm very please with the direction this is going!

Shades of Blue

This is "Shades of Blue", a slightly sped up video while I draw today's gesture drawing and in keeping with my recent frequent use of the color blue!

Selfie in Three Parts

A haiku:

Shades of blue come through

(Of the sky and clouds and sea)

In my recent work.

I’ve always really liked shades of blue, and it seems that it’s really found a place into my work lately!

Thank you! (a chat)

I wanted to take a moment to sit down and talk to you about some of the trials that come along with being an artist online.  It's never easy and isn't always fun.  I appreciate each and every one of you being here and supporting me and my work.

On the Easel

On my easel today sits a very large canvas!

I made some great progress today with this piece, and am very excited to be sharing the time lapse of progress with you!

The Mind Wanders

Setting out with the greatest of intentions, but the mind tends to wander.

It is my intention every day to seek out the beauty in the world, to create art from the inspiration it provides. I often get sidetracked. Fortunately, both the aspects of natural beauty and the influence of a distracted mind came together for this short piece of art!

Wednesday Walk (vintage horror edition)

Some of you may have found me through YouTube.  If that's the case you've probably seen my tour of the filming location of "Friday The Thirteenth Part 6 Jason Lives" It's probably my favorite of the series and it was a real treat to visit the actual location.  I did a more comprehensive walk-through style tour for YouTube, that you can see here: https://youtu.be/-a2eRIeC6VA

After filming that I peeled off the MTV logo shirt and went for a walk through pretty much the whole camp from the lake all the way up to mess hall.  It was a really interesting not being afraid of a space that is so iconically terrifying.  Camp Crystal Lake is a name associated with terror, but in the light of day it's just a fun looking camp.  Really quite pleasant and nothing to be afraid of.

This is a classic to celebrate the upcoming date (and somewhat rare event) of a Friday the 13th in October.   A throwback for spooky season and if you've seen it before I hope that you'll enjoy it again!

This is a Test

Answering a recent question about why my older videos are not available, while performing a test for an upcoming YouTube video.

I am currently undergoing the process of having leaked content removed from the web. I have employed the assistance of an entire legal team, and their ethical hackers. In the process of addressing the question, I thought I'd run a test.

I am so grateful that you're here! Thank you, and please stay tuned as I resolve this problem! The process of removing the leaks is ongoing, and seems to be making progress! Please stay tuned as I work on creating more !

Chores and Customization

It was a beautiful autumn day. I set out in the backyard to take care of a few chores and much needed customization.

First up was cleaning, then a bit of maintenance, then the customization! Which freed me up to actually mow the lawn.

I like naming my tools, and this video highlights and introduces at least two of them!
