I have started editing a long video of the full process behind painting The Sillies.

I will be completing the commissions on my waitlist from 2022 before beginning the next group cat painting. I’ve learned the hard way that I can’t work on both at the same time. 

I’m not sure which theme I’ll go with for the next group painting, but a few of my ideas are: 

• cats loafing on grocery store shelves

• cats with their paws in the air

• cats wearing something/ or have an object on their head

• smaller paintings with color specific cats (black, orange, brown tabby, calico, etc) 

• cats looking angry

• cat owners holding their cats

There will of course be a preorder for the complete prints, but here's what makes the mini prints special: they will be the only prints that exactly match the size of the original painting! And they will be an excellent reference to look at for when the jigsaw puzzle comes out next year :3 The mini prints themselves are like a mini puzzle and can be put together to create a 16x20" print!

An additional side note for any monthly patreons who have signed up within the last 12 months and might be wondering why your letters seem like they arrive later than most:

Your initial sign up date becomes your monthly charge date (example: you signed up on October 29th, so your monthly payment will be on the 29th of each month).

I must then wait to send out your next letter until after the next payment clears, so in this example, the next payment is on November 29th. I will send out the letter on November 30th. It then takes 1-2 weeks for US letters to arrive, and 3-4 weeks for international letters to arrive.

If you would like to the letters to be shipped out as soon as possible, I can suggest changing your monthly plan to the yearly plan, as I send out yearly members by the 8th of each month.

or you can 'reset' your membership (cancel then resign up) on an earlier day in the month, so you would be charged sooner each month. I hope this helps! :3

August Noodle Mail! 💌

Hi everyone! :3 August Noodle Mail is going to be:

• My Cats Riding the Bus to School 5x7" postcard
• Haku Meow 4x4" magnet (patreon exclusive)

The story behind these two paintings:

Haku Meow now completes the magnet set of all four of my cats meowing with a blue background. I tried out a star shaped eye highlight in this one for the first time.

In My Cats Riding the Bus to School, I wanted to reflect the personalities of each of my cats and how I thought they'd react to riding the bus to their first day of school. Noodle would of course be sitting up in the seat spacing out, Atlas would be in his defensive crouch trying make himself seem smaller, Squid would be climbing the seats and Haku would be panicking under the seat.

Then, I thought to add them wearing little backpacks, and wondered what characters might be on them. I chose Pomni from The Amazing Digital Circus for Noodle's backpack (and even made a separate PomNoodle design that is printed on the backside of the postcard). I chose a design used by the band Radiohead for Atlas' backpack, I think he'd be a big fan (like mama). For Haku's backpack, I wanted it to seem like he forget to zip it up and all his pencils came flying out in his panic.

Near the end of the painting, I added some smaller details like the smudged graffiti of "squid wuz here" on the interior of the bus, the stickers plastered on the walls, the ripped up seat cushions and the building in the background that says ねこ(the word for cat in Japanese).

I also tried painting a different style for the fur of the cats, I really like the fur spikes I've seen other artists use (example below by babezord) and this was my first time attempting to paint it!

Atlas doesn't have much floof, but making the fur on top of his head spiked up made him seem even more like an angsty metalhead kid.

The Sillies Update! :

I got section 6 of 9 scanned for the mini prints going out for September Noodle Mail. I am a few cats ahead of posting online, it's been great spacing it out so I consistently upload a video at least once a week! I'm now sketching out the next section (top middle). I'm so excited to see how it fills out!

I made a mockup in photoshop of the rest of the cats I plan to add to the painting. The end is within reach! 🤩 Thank you for following along the journey <3

Personal Update:

This first week of August, I took a trip to see my family in Texas and drove my two young nieces down to Florida with my mom to spend time with them before school started. It was their first time visiting and they are both huge fans of Noodle and art.

My oldest niece is my mini me, she's always drawing, playing video games, and loves cats. My younger niece saw me packing orders and immediately started putting together envelopes just like I was. She also asked if she could paint something, so I set them both up and we painted for a couple hours. It was so nice to be able to spend time together!

What are claybord tiles? They are a super smooth surface to draw or paint on, and they are typically what I choose to paint on! Many of my small paintings are on claybord tiles, including the Atlas painting shown in the tutorial video on my previous post. Some of my bigger pieces such as The Chorus and The Sillies are also on claybord panels! I wanted to do this giveaway so that some of you can try painting on it as well. When painting on regular canvas, you might notice there’s always going to be a texture on surface because of how canvases are made. Claybord offers such a smooth surface that only the texture of the paint itself will appear!

Noodle, Baby Boy Painting Process!

I'm super excited to show you all how I paint! :3

I have lots of videos to share from our trip to Japan last month. I want to organize it bit and put it in a separate post, but I've attached some of the photos to this post for now! I stayed at an artist residency in Itoshima for 1 month. I also spent a day visiting an island full of cats called Ainoshima! ≽^•⩊•^≼

I was able to work on The Sillies a lot during my stay at Studio Kura. I will work a bit more on it now so I can get the painting scanned again for the next round of mini prints. Next month's Noodle Mail will have something else instead!

Me and my husband are in Japan for the whole month! I'm staying at an artist residency near Fukuoka and I've brought The Sillies with me to work on it here. I'm staying with three other artists in the house, one is a girl from Chile and the other two are a couple from Florida as well haha! There are 3 other houses nearby with artists from UK, Canada, Germany, France, Malaysia and Australia. I got to meet everyone at a dinner a couple nights ago!

It's been so cold it's actually snowing!! The locals say this is rare for the area, and I'm really enjoying seeing it as I haven't seen snow in almost 10 years! I'm feeling more confident in my conversational Japanese, as I talk with more people 🥹

For the wondering minds, I always like to share the thought process and why I do what I do. Hopefully this helps others as the new year begins and we find new ways to help one another.

For Noodle Mail; I need to order everything by a certain time to be able to send out the letters in a timely manner, and that means I need to finish a new painting by a certain time each month.

Some months I was spread too thin. From trying to complete any commissions, to work on The Sillies, to create a new painting for Noodle Mail.

After having hours long discussions we came up with a plan that would not sacrifice any art and my mental health. Thank you for the many individuals that helped plan this for the upcoming year.

I'll finally be able to focus on The Sillies and complete it this year, it's been in progress since 2022!

Life update:

Painting for a job is a blessing and a lot of stress. I am so happy I am able to do this for a living and I cannot thank everyone so much for supporting me on this journey!

But I've been struggling with my mood in recent weeks. I painted every day for a week feeling great, then 2-3 weeks with no drawing at all and feeling down. It truly feels like one step forward two steps back. This pattern has been happening throughout this whole year. I’m sorry for the delay in uploads and commissions as I try to paint when I can give my full effort.

I'd like to find a balance and get back to work on The Sillies and regular uploads. I am always open to support and suggestion on this subject because I’m still navigating this social media platform work lifestyle and my husband does try to help but he can’t quit his day job yet to help me full time ( I’m trying lol).

I am always open to suggestions on what to send for upcoming months' rewards. I try to listen to all the options and I love the inputs. You can message here / discord / FB group

October Noodle Mail + Hurricane Delays

Hey everyone! Here's what is in this month's Noodle Mail! :3

Since we live in central Florida, please expect this month's mail to be delayed due to the hurricane!

Last month we had more messages than usual about delayed mail, please reach out if you do not receive your October Noodle Mail by October 31st if you in the US and November 15th if you are international! Hurricane season does delay the mail process please give the post office time to deliver.

I sent out all international letters on Monday, so hopefully they are safely on the way! We are still packing up the rest of the Noodle Mail. Local post offices are closed until Friday so we will have the rest sent out by then!

Our county has issued a voluntary evacuation for those in flood prone areas and mobile homes. Luckily we have a little more elevation so we shouldn't get flooding! but we expect to lose power for at least a few days, we will try to keep you all updated on discord ❤️ https://discord.gg/sHYcE3rruZ

September Noodle Mail Preview! 🌿

Hi everyone! :3 I'm so excited for this month's Noodle Mail!

It's a 5x7" mini coloring book!! This is my second coloring book, a whole year after the first book!

This time around, I've printed designs on both sides of the pages to maximize the number of pages you can color, without going over the weight limit on the letter envelopes. The downside is that if you're using markers or paint, it will likely bleed onto the backside of the page.

But! I've attached the downloadable digital files onto this post if you would like to print them out at home or color them digitally! :)

I am currently editing a painting tutorial video, so I hope it will help some of you learn the joys of painting cats! I'll include some beginner-friendly tips for those who don't have much experience and just want to paint for fun! ☺️

P.S. Here is a breakdown of what the writing in the book says:

The text is in Japanese, using both hiragana and katakana.

Page 1 says "Nya~" which means meow. にゃ〜

Page 3 says "miruku" = milk. ミルク

Page 4 says "umai nuudoru" = good/tasty noodle. うまいヌードル

Page 5 says "kenka!" = fight! and "gogogo" is an onomonopia, notably used in anime/manga for dramatic effect. ケンカ！ゴゴゴ

Page 7 says "watashi wa buruma desu" = I am Bulma. 私はブルマです

Page 8 says "chu~ru" referring to the cat treats called churu. ちゅ〜る

Page 10 says "neko uizaado" = cat wizard. ネコウィザード

WHEN DOES NOODLE MAIL SHIP OUT EACH MONTH?

I aim to ship out Noodle Mail by the 8th of every month. It takes 1-2 weeks for US Noodle Mail to arrive and 3-4 weeks for International Noodle Mail to arrive. If your payment is delayed or if you're a new patreon, I ship out Noodle Mail within a week of your payment going through! Patreon charges you the day you sign up, so you'll get that month's Noodle Mail regardless if it's the last day of the month!

For new members:

You will be charged the day you sign up and your following payments will be charged that same day each month (example: if you sign up on the 15th of the month, you will be charged every on month on the 15th afterwards). I aim to ship out your Noodle Mail within a week of your payment going through each month, so the timing of arrival will vary based on what day of the month you signed up! After I ship out your Noodle Mail, it takes 1-2 weeks for Noodle Mail to arrive within the US and 3-4 weeks for international letters.

I highly recommend not signing up through the Patreon App on iOS, as Apple will charge you a 30% subscription fee, increasing the base tier price cost for you. Please sign up through desktop or web browser to be charged the $8 USD/per month price!
