Heya! Apparently Patreon is going through some changes? So apologies if this ends up formatted all weird. For the latest update I'm including the files for some of my most recent work: Ken, Ganondorf and Bayonetta! Like always, you can flick through the layers and print off a version for yourself, just don't sell it or alter it.
Got a couple things in the works, like some new Yakuza prints, some Baldur's Gate art, and some surprises. Currently noodling on this commission of Miguel and a Spider-OC.
- Been having a weird time with social media lately. Twitter feels dead, and i havent found a rhythm for BlueSky yet (though i really like it there). You can find me there at @ianfay.bsky.social.
- Any wrestling fans here? Wrestledream this weekend was surprisingly great! Edge joining the company feels kinda exciting for the potential matchups, and Danielson v Sabre Jr was a god damn masterclass (that somehow left a lot in the bank for a follow up)
- Baldur's Gate 3 is tremendous. The freedom is breathtaking, you really have so much space to roleplay and be the kind of main character you want to be, without being penalised for not choosing the "correct" path. Bonus points for the genuine accents! What a breath of fresh air hearing real Irish voices in a game for a change. (My character is a half orc called Togan. He's a Paladin/ bard who kept accidentally breaking his oath because I'm too stupid and keep making him do evil rituals)
- I have an update on the housing situation! I can't say too much due to the nature of the agreement, but suffice it to say, Lucy and I are very pleased with the agreement. We had our hearing in early September, and to say i was dramatically over prepared is an understatement. I was so worked up I think i put myself into a borderline euphoric state then crashed EXTREMELY suddenly while out on a little walk to celebrate afterwards lol. Anyway!! Long story short, we have an agreement re: the situation here, and are actively looking for a new home again.
- I might try to compile some of what we've learned about navigating the RTB and landlords (In Ireland), and if i do i'll share it here too. Might seem obvious, but some of the main things we've learned is to try to keep everything in writing, be 100% clear on both tenant and landlord obligations and laws, and don't be afraid to contact resources like Threshold or Catu for advice and guidance.
- Check out this photo of Squee! She's 18! We love her very much.
Please let me know if you have any problems accessing the files in the folder (theyre clip studio ones again since im 90% a clip studio guy for work).
So remember when i said I'd frame him with a simple background? I fucked that right up lol i got way too carried away. I think it worked out in the end though? I'll share the CSP files for this one later this month
Nearly finished the big guy. Main thing now is to just frame him with a simple background, which im not 100% sure about yet lol. I'll figure it out in the morning. I've added a few full resolution images to July's folder, including this Ganondorf WIP and the PNGs for the two commissions included this month!
Currently working on a Ganondorf (totk version) commission that'll also be available as a print at Dublin Comic Con in 2 weeks. Heres where its at:
Drew a little self portrait to warm up during the month. Really like the scratch pencil brush i used here, ive been using it for my final line in a lot of my work lately
For another warmup I drew the legendary irish head of O'Brien. Gonna try and make a Union Man print for DCC if I can.
Assorted notes: - As mentioned, we have Dublin Comic Con coming up the second weekend of August, which I'm excited for as its one of the only times i get to see everyone!
- I'll be advertising commissions for mid august through September soon, keep an eye on twitter if you're interested (or just fill in the commission form at bossrushstudio.com
- No real updates on our housing situation. We're still waiting on a date for the hearing with the housing authority, but we're extremely confident in our case and the evidence we've accumulated.
- Really loved Barbie and want to draw Ken as soon as I possibly can
Hope everyone is doing good! I know that most of you are likely aware from following me on twitter, but just in case anyone here isn't, the last few months have been a mess due to our previous landlord evicting us to sell the house, and the new landlord breaking practically every rule imaginable, which meant that the last few months ive either been deeply depressed or learning as much as I can about tenancy law and accumulating evidence for the RTB case to get our money back.
As a result, I havent been updating here and had paused June's charges (so none of you have been charged since May). I've just paused it again, so you won't be charged this month either.
I'll upload the Bayonetta piece CSP file here soon, but in the meantime, thank you all so much for the support and I hope to be back to normal sooner than later (wish us well in the RTB case!)
Heya! Thank you so much for your support this last month, youre the best.
This month's Clip Studio files are my new Chainsaw Man sticker and a World of Warcraft commission I did recently.
Not looking like I'll end up making the Yagami and Kaito print for Dublin Comic Con, but certainly plan on having it soon after (plus an Ichiban one as I've finished Yakuza: Like a Dragon finally and i love him).
I'll be finally opening my commission queue again this week, so if you're one of the 11 euro patrons and you've filled out the commission form, let me know so I can give you first dibs/ priority in the queue.
Speaking of commissions, this is the current one I'm working on. The last outstanding commission from last years queue.
I plan on having at least one new print made for Dublin Comic con this march, of Yagami and Kaito from Lost Judgement. Will try to fit in more new work. I'm also working on the Morrigan comic again as of this week, and aim to have it finished by April, alongside finishing off commissions and starting a new commission queue.
Unfortunately, my plans of focusing on study and personal work thanks to the Basic Income pilot are slightly delayed while Lucy's out of work (the whole animation industry seems to be out of work right now, its terrible). I'm currently paying the full rent so, as it stands, I'll still be taking on commissions to keep the bills paid (which is why the comic is gonna still take so long). I feel enormously lucky to have gotten on the basic income pilot, because without it we certainly wouldn't have been able to cover our rent the last couple months. Which also brings me to you, and how grateful i am that youre supporting my work in a tumultuous time for us all. I'm more thankful than i can ever properly articulate, thank you!
Ian
I'll leave you with a sneak peek at the current commission im finishing off!
This time around I've got the three most recent commissions for you, including the Dragon age Leyendecker inspired one i just finished last night.
I'm nearly caught up on my outstanding commissions, though a couple of them will go into early January. Then I'm gonna try take less commissions in general going forward, as I try to make use of the Basic Income for the Arts to do more general study, practice and personal work.
I also have the last handful of comic pages for Morrigan left, and I really want that finished and ready before Dublin Comic Con.
This month's Etsy voucher is for 15% off! Enter code AVATARTWO at checkout, valid until the 20th of January.
If theres any issues accessing the below link, please let me know!
Just in the process of organizing my files right now, will be uploading more into the linked drive folder as the night goes on, and will do another update when all the files are uploaded
Hey! Been a little while since i updated you here. Ended up being fairly unwell for most of October into early November so I fell behind on everything, then as soon as I felt better the christmas sales for the etsy store exploded lol so im a little bamboozled
Finalizing some commission roughs tonight for next weeks work, then back to finishing the commissions I'd already started before I got sick. Lucy's helping with the store now so that helps. Will prep the PSDs tomorrow after lunch.
Heya! Thank you so much for the support here and a big welcome to the new patrons!!
Just wanted to share some recent commissions and give an update on the Basic Income for the Arts pilot scheme I signed up for a few months back and what that means for Patreon.
So... I got selected! Out of the 8000+ eligible applicants, 2000 were randomly selected to take part in the study (with a further 1000 being selected for the control group). It means that for 3 years I'll be finally able to work on personal projects, portfolio pieces (to try and get comic cover work), learning new programs (I've been dying to learn Blender) and not being in constant burnout survival mode like i have been for the prior 3 years.
Before I go any further: Patrons who are giving more than €1, i am so so thankful and grateful for your support, youve genuinely helped me more than you realize. The Basic Income (I'll refer to it as BIA going forward) doesn't start till mid october, but I wanted to give you a heads up and say its completely ok for you to reduce your pledge (or even remove it entirely) given the change in circumstances.
I am still going to share stuff here first, share clip files, give Etsy discounts etc (in fact I'll probably become even more active here once the BIA starts), I just wanted you to know that the circumstances have changed and, for 3 years at least, my basic needs are taken care of and so this is a perfect time to reassess your pledge!
As mentioned above, the BIA is meant to start in the latter half of October (but i fully expect delays lol this whole pilot was supposed to start months ago), and it will be in monthly payments of €1400. This is pretty much what I've been spending per month on rent and bills, so basically anything I make for the next 3 years through my Etsy, Patreon and regular commissioned work will be extra for savings, upgrades, restocks etc. The last year in particular has been rough and I was genuinely at the crossroads of "If i something doesn't change I'm going to have to just pack it in and get a proper job". The fact that I'll now be able to afford to replace my PC from 2014 with something that works? I still can't believe it and I've had a week to digest it!
I take the whole thing incredibly seriously, I understand I'm now in an enormously privileged position and plan to make the most of it while I can. I'm fully aware of how devastated those who were eligible but weren't selected feel, because I've been in that same mindset for so long. For those of us who got selected, we have an enormous responsiblity to help make this scheme a massive success, and to help justify not only its continuation, but expansion for more artists, writers, musicians etc, and help inspire similar basic income movements across the world.
Anyway, none of you support me for my shite writing hahaha, so heres some of the recent commissions I did.
I have a queue of commissions to get through from now till mid October, and look forward to sharing more of them as sneak peeks with you (and some of the files). I'll have another update later this month with this month's CSP file and the October etsy voucher, but for now, thank you again. Seriously, your support means the world.
If you have any questions about the commissions, upcoming work, plans or how the BIA works, ask away!
Not too much to say about these ones, its just two rough drawings for separate OC commissions I'm working on at the moment! Happy enough with both drawings, sort of nice to just bash out poses without too many headaches
Hello everyone! Thanks so much for the support here, it really does mean a lot. So for this pack ive included the CSP files for Captain Flint, Mr. Blobby and Gandalf + some high res images and PNG. As always, these are only for personal use and personal printing, please do not share them or use them for anything else.
Some assorted updates: I dont think i ever shared this finished image of Winter Solider? It was commissioned as art for a fanfic chapter thats not released yet, so for now this is a secret just for patrons.
We started a sketch group on Twitter and Instagram called ArtClub IE! It started as a little idea to connect Artists in ireland, get us working on shared little prompts and put eyes on artists who might not usually get the exposure. There used to be a similar sketch society thing on facebook, and i remembered always enjoying feeling part of a larger community, and loved seeing more established names take part in the same thing i was doing, sometimes even giving me feedback! So I wanted something similar for nowadays, to help bring up the next generation and also to help us all get a little more connected. Ireland is also home to a ton of incredible artists from different countries, so I wanted to make sure they were included too, and then also Irish artists who are currently abroad. Basically to showcase the art of our little island.
Thankfully ive had a TON of help from Kinley, Aysia, Amy Louise and Seánie, and tbh theyve really taken the reigns because running and organizing something like that is really not my strength. Our first prompt was a massive heartwarming success, using the prompt "Fantasy". Check out some of the submissions below or search the hashtag #ArtClubIE on twitter and instagram!
Its been a busy couple of months for the etsy shop. Had to get some new stock together before Dublin Comic Con, and just in general as its been kind of a flat year sales-wise, so ive needed to refresh the stock a little. Heres some of the stuff me and lucy added over the past couple of weeks!
Hello! Bumper post as I've included the Clip Studio files for May and June (3 in total) + full res image downloads of each.
This set includes some recent commissions, namely Chrom from Fire Emblem/ Smash Bros, Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2 (the Alfred Molina version), and a Dungeons and Dragons Tortie bust.
In the images I've included both versions of Doc Ock, the PNG of Chrom, and my Morbius by Moebius drawing.
We have Dublin Comic Con coming up again in August, Cautiously optimistic for it! Other than that, I'm kinda in a bit of a limbo at the moment, as I'm not sure if we'll be in the same house past august, or what my work situation is a month from now, so the lack of stability there has been.. fun. lol
Heres an early look at a commission I did recently of dripping wet Geralt! This'll be going into the etsy shop too! I'll share a discount code here for Patrons before listing it!
How's everyone doing! Late again with this one, March was a wipeout for me after Dublin Comic Con, spent all of April feverishly catching up on commissions.
This month's files are Iceman and (don't share this one online!) a commission I finished this week of the 10th Doctor. I've also included a couple PNGs and JPEGs from recent commissions!
I applied for the Basic Income for The Arts pilot scheme happening in Ireland. I expect theres going to be huge interest in it, so the chances of actually getting onto the scheme are slim but damn it would be a monsterous help, especially on months like this where etsy income just didn't happen due to the strike.
Heres the link to the folder! Let me know if you have any difficulty accessing it!
Hello! Thanks for supporting my wee patreon this month! Another brand new file this month, as I've uploaded the Aragorn commission I just finished to the folder as a PSD, feel free to print off for your self (but keep it to yourselves!). I've also added the full res art from earlier this month to this folder too.
This months Patron Etsy code is ITHINKCROWSARECUTE, and it'll give you 15% off anything in the Etsy store from now till the end of March!
I'm still working through a ton of commissions, and will have Dublin Comic Con in the middle of March, so I'm being kept busy at least. Anyway, heres the long promised and relatively underwhelming studio tour lol
My workspace! Relatively basic to be honest. The PC is an old HP desktop I got using a grant for starting a business back in 2014, so its not exactly a powerhouse haha. The Cintiq is a refurbished Cintiq 16 (I don't recommend this model, the screen is a type of plastic thats very prone to getting worn down and scratched. I started having issues pretty early on so I put a 3rd party screen protector over it. The cintiq is elevated on a laptop stand from Jysk. Monitor is an ASUS IPS monitor, i think its 23 inch? way bigger than i intended to buy. Lucy and me find that having the backlight on our monitors and lamps either side seems to really help ease eyestrain. And of course, my screen is surrounded by art from friends!
To my left is the Lucy zone. Very similar set up, Cintiq 13HD on a jysk stand, backlight etc. Her PC is a beast and I am very jealous.
The desk to my right is where I pack all my orders and run the shop. If you've bought anything from the store since august, this is where its packed!
Behind my desk is an Ikea Kalax unit where I keep all my prints, envelopes, and assorted shop stuff. Bit messy here as I'd just been packing orders, but theres usually a system to it. When packing, i check what i need then plonk them all on the trolly, and wheel it over to the desk. Love my trolly very much.
Some books I used recently for reference or ideas.
More books and sketchpads/ notepads!
Finally, the silly stuff. Some more prints, my very noisy Otamatone, figures from my favourite movie still in the pack (promised myself i'd get them signed one day).
And some of my favourite wrestlers + my absolute favourite Gundam kit i've built, the Perfect Grade Unleashed RX 78 2, that Lucy got me for christmas last year. A beast of a thing.
I'm sure most people here probably already follow my social media, so I won't re-explain the whole situation, but heres a folder full of art to thank you for your support here. Some of it was shared before on patreon, some of it never before.
VERY LATE HAPPY NEW YEAR. Delayed update (as per usual)! SO I learned something important over christmas, which is I absolutely cannot afford to take 2 weeks off from work lol. I've been flat out all month trying to catch up. Before christmas was insanely hectic too. I don't think I've ever done so many commissions in such a short window before.
Speaking of which:
Heres a selection of the commissions from the last few months.
Since I missed Decembers update, I've added more than double the stuff to this month's folder! Theres 6 full resolution JPEGs and Imhotep PNG with no background for your personal use and printing! Theres also a CSP file of the Sigma commission!
While I'm here, is there anything you would like to see from the patreon going forward? Some stuff, like streaming/ timelapses, are a bit harder for me with my current set up (My computer is from 2015 and would straight up DIE if i tried), but I want people to feel like theyre getting value for supporting me here!
And I PROMISE I'll have a photo of my workspace in February hahaha, I've left a post it note in an obnoxious position at my monitor so that I don't forget again!
Thanks again for the support, I hope you're all doing well and fingers crossed 2022 is less of a mess than the previous 2 years.
Heres the folder! As always, let me know if you have any issues accessing the files!
Hiya! November was wildly busy. I really wasn't prepared for how many orders I'd have through etsy and OOOOH BOY did it take up a lot of time between the customer queries, packing, and repeated walks back and forth from the post office. Probably taking up the majority of two days per week at the minute, but hopefully that'll ease off soon. Its a good problem to have!! The only issue is its seriously delayed my commissions
Speaking of commissions, heres some of this months work. Like last time, theres some stuff i can't share as its for birthdays or other reasons, but it was a good month!
I finally (mostly) decorated my workspace! I was going to share a photo but we're gonna add christmas decorations tomorrow, so I'll take a photo then and share it with you!
This month's file is the CLIP file of the Anduin and Wrathion commission, a really cute sentai inspired one! I love getting prompts like this one, adding a little fun to it all.
Happy Halloween everyone!! I hope you're having a real spooky time! We made little ghostie sweets and carved way too many pumpkins lol
This month's PSD is a commission I finished the other night. In it I've sort of streamlined my process a bit, doing less labourous overpainting, and then at the end smudging and bluring the linework into the colours. I liked how it turned out anyways!
Heres a peak at some of Octobers work, most of which hasn't been shared anywhere else yet. I finished two wrestling based commissions, one for a friend's comic, the other for a twitter mutual's other half, so they're staying here till they've been used for their intended purposes! Similarly, the Phantom piece was for a twitter mutual's wife's birthday, so it hasn't been shared properly yet either, you guys are first! I'm nearly finished the Sentai posed one below, and I'll be sharing more of the Ardeth Bay commission on twitter in the upcoming days.
I've got a fairly full November lined up, but I'm getting a little quicker and hopefully won't have to deal with as many disruptions as I did in October.
As always, if you're part of the commission tier, feel free to gimme a shout and I can slot your commission in sooner than would usually be the case
I thought I'd share some commissions in various states of finish. I usually post snippets on twitter, and I think i'll start to share the full versions here for patrons
I don't think I've ever had so many going at one time before (this isn't all of them, there's two more in the queue), but its working out well as it generally takes clients a little while to respond to an update, so rather than just wait or try to come up with something new to draw, i can swap over to another commission and work on that.
Also helps when you're getting frustrated with one part of a commission and you can just hop over to another and do a different task like inking or colouring.
I'm also finally going to do another Mummy (1999) print, as a long time commissioner and friend has commissioned Ardeth Bay!
Its nice to be kept busy, especially now that I'm living in my own place again and the cost of living has shot up significantly lol. I'm super grateful to have commissioners who come to me for what I can do, for how I draw. Makes work a lot more rewarding.
Heya! Hope you're all having a pleasant Autumn (honestly I'm pretty delighted it's getting a little bit cooler, I can't stand working at the desk in the heat).
We're starting to feel a little more established here in Kilkenny. Lucy's probably going to start working in studio at Cartoon Saloon soon, so I'm gonna miss having my studio buddy at home (but I'm also thrilled for her to be working there!). I'm going home to Drogheda for a couple days, so when I come back I'll try take some workplace photos (its kinda boring as I've nothing on the walls yet, but it's my favourite workspace I've had yet).
As for this month's update, I've included two recent commissions: the clip file for Varian from WoW, and a PSD of one of this week's commissions. I've also included this little sneek peek at one of this month's bigger jobs, a pin up for a friend's project that'll be announced soon!
If you're a Patron in the commission tier, don't forget to check out the commission form at https://www.bossrushstudio.com/commissions and let me know here so I can make sure to give you priority!
Hi!! Long time no speak! So first things first, if you get charged for September and no longer wish to be a patron and would like a refund, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll sort you out ASAP! I know I've been away for a little while and I don't want to surprise anyone with the charge if they forgot they were a patron here!
I've paused the last couple months of this patreon as I was without a studio space to work in for a while, but now that I'm moved in to my new place and am back at the desk, I'm able to start updating here more often again!
I'll be sharing more updates over the coming weeks as I have a stacked schedule of commissions and personal projects to tackle (including the patreon character polls from earlier this year)
I'll also try and share photos of my studio space now that its nearly organised! we still have some boxes of Ikea furniture to build that we're avoiding, and our walls are dreadfully bare, but we're getting there slowly!
Heres this months work file, its the CSP file as the PSD made some layers go funny. If you'd like a PSD version let me know! As per usual, this is just for personal use etc
I'll be responding to the tier 2 patrons who sent commission inquiries next week! If you're one of those patrons and you havent sent an inquiry yet and would like to be ahead of the queue, fill out the form at bossrushstudio.com and let me know here in a message that youve filled it out so I know who's who!
This month's patron exclusive 15% off Etsy coupon is "ISITSUMMERYET", valid till the end of May!
