Select Answers: Vic Grimes, ROH TV, Blood Testing

Welcome to Select Answers, a feature that provides some of the answers to questions that were posed to Sean Ross Sapp in the most recent Fightful Weekly Q&A Podcast. The show drops every week on Fightful Select for subscribers.

What happened with Vic Grimes’ run in WWE as “Key”? I remember him debuting, having maybe one match on Jakked or Metal, then completely disappearing

He was the subject of our Fightful Select Dark Match Commentary very early on, and I had misjudged him for years. He was brought in for what was supposed to be a drug dealer gimmick....yeah. The rumor was that he and Al Snow had problems, but I don't know how real that was. He wrestled a lot in WWE's connected PPW, and had a lot of Kurt Angle's early matches. He only had one match on WWE TV and was nixed. That was in part because Droz had his career ended, and all plans for their faction were done then. WWF recommended that Grimes work in ECW, and he did, but got a reputation for being dangerous. The longstanding reason was that Al Snow didn't like working with him, and that spelled the end of him in WWE.

Will there ever be an ROH TV deal?

WBD offered one, and Tony Khan wouldn't do it. He has a cost in mind for the Ring of Honor brand that so far no companies have been willing to meet. WBD actually ended up getting a replay for Dynamite on TruTV at 10 PM ET on Fridays where they hoped ROH would be. To me, unless you put stock into ROH booking, nobody is ever going to make a real offer for it.

What kind of testing do wrestlers undergo to ensure they're free of disease? Moreso AEW specifically because they do a lot of blood spots.

They undergo regular blood testing. You can actually see in an old interview I did with Chuck Taylor where he talks about it a little bit when I asked him why he has a band aid on his arm. They sometimes have to submit testing for athletic commissions as well. There are medical teams and such that help them do such.

3 PM ET: WrestleVotes LIVE! Q&A -- Get your questions in

Hey guys! WrestleVotes has officially joined Fightful, and we kick off today with WrestleVotes LIVE, their weekly Q&A show.

Go ahead and get your questions in, or leave them live in the Youtube comments!

A couple of newsworthy notes

  • Nobody that Fightful talked to or WrestleVotes has talked to seemed to know what was supposed to be "epic" about WWE Raw tonight

  • There are some people within WWE who "don't love" the idea of Gunther being John Cena's final opponent, but understand the decision, per TC of WrestleVotes.

Bonus DEBUNKATHON! Survivor Series, TitanTron, Paul Heyman, Jushin Liger, WrestleCade news

A reminder for free subscribers - WRESTLEVOTES joins the paid tier this week with a live Q&A show Monday at 3 PM ET, and a weekly show starting Thursdays!

WWE's Titan Tron Stuff

WWE had a lot of people excited as they played a number of growingly ridiculous Titan Trons at Petco Park throughout Survivor Series week.

From Jinder Mahal to Titus O'Neil to Stone Cold Steve Austin, several titan tron videos of performers who were never planned were used to test the video boards for Survivor Series. WWE knew that because of the open situation for the baseball stadium, a number of people would be able to see more of the setup than usual from the comfort of their hotel rooms. A number of the videos emerged on TikTok, but by then, WWE had already made plans for privacy.

There was a curtain set up over the ring to protect rehearsals, which took place Friday evening for Women's Wargames, and late Friday for Men's WarGames. There was also another ring set up backstage.

As the week went on, those in charge just started having fun with the tron videos and many were enjoying that they were getting out.

Additional notes

  • There was no heat that we heard over Paul Heyman pushing a child out of his way after Survivor Series. There was heat on the security for allowing someone through.

  • As reported last night, the man actively under the mask in the men's War Games is Austin Theory. It could always be changed for future instances, but that's who it was

  • It was reiterated to us that a lot of the Survivor Series plans were adjusted over the last 6 weeks because of the Seth Rollins injury, which most assumed.

  • A reminder, WRESTLEVOTES' live Q&A launches at 3 PM ET on Monday!!

  • We have been asking and trying to contact anyone associated with PowerTown Wrestling toys

  • The claim internally was that Bron Breakker initially seemed fine after his rough landing at Survivor Series

  • Our Fightful Awards voting has kicked off and is open ended!

Jushin Liger

Jushin Thunder Liger came out of retirement for a shocking, quick match with Joey Janela. Janela tells us he did a show for AML (Wrestlecade's company) months ago, expecting to work against George South at WrestleCade. He says he was told back then he was working with Jushin Liger, and the promoters figured he would appreciate that

Janela says that he responded with "Should I blow you guys now or later?"

The day prior to the match, they weren't sure on what the finish would be and noted NJPW is strict on retirement, but Liger was easy to work with. Liger had chosen Janela from a few options. Janela wanted the shot done how it was, with his reaction and the classic NJPW fade to entrance.

WrestleCade

WrestleCade is in the books and had another loaded show Saturday night with a standing room only crowd. The show featured Jushin Liger, JBL, Brodido, Nic Nemeth, Hardy Boyz, Rascalz, Killer Kross, Bushwhacker Luke, Ricky Morton, Good Brothers, Cardona and Myers, Swoggle, and tons more.

Wrestlecade had a physical therapy spot set up where talent could come get advice or worked on. Michael Murray, PT, DPT, of Duke Health was present working on talent, everything is HIPAA compliant so we can't reveal details of who was there outside of Mr. Hughes, who publicly filmed for his social media. They were getting a lot of good feedback regarding the set up and the PT area was worked non stop, and was backstage for each of the shows this weekend.

If you're a wrestler interested, you can contact michael.murray@duke.edu

Select Answers: Mox after Death Riders, Gable, Finlay

What do you see Mox doing once the death riders turn on him? Does he go back to baby face or do you see him staying heel amd possibly forming another faction?

It should be the redemption tour. Jon Moxley's Death Riders originally started with pure intentions. They were afraid of AEW getting soft, and felt like they had to make sure that happened. Somewhere along the way, Moxley became the thing he hated, all because he was addicted to being at the top of AEW. Highlighting how much that means to him and how it changed him just to hold on to it would be a good approach.

What is the status of Chad gable?

He underwent a shoulder surgery in July to help repair a pre-existing injury that kept getting worse. He indicated he would be back sooner than expected, but didn't give a timeline. Shoulders are usually long-term injuries. He was scheduled to be back at the WWE Performance Center recently. However, I should make clear this isn't a sign that he's ready to return. It could be, but it's not a guarantee. That's where a lot of the talent go to rehab their injuries.

Do you expect to see David Finlay leave new Japan for WWE when his current contract is up. He seems to be not working as many shows as he once did

I think that David Finlay will leave New Japan Pro Wrestling, but I don't necessarily think it will be WWE. It certainly could be, but I think he's going to evaluate his options and see if either WWE or AEW are possibilities. There's always a chance he could stay with New Japan Pro Wrestling, but I think he's going to make a move.

It's Survivor Series WAR GAMES from the San Diego Padres stadium.

If Nikki Bella wins the Women's World Title tonight, it'll be the first world title these people have ever seen in this building. But let's hope Stephanie retains anyway.

Also, Dominick Mysterio is trying to win back his Intercontinental Title from John Cena, which would be very dumb, so let's hope that's not happening either.

And then we've got the War Games matches, featuring 20 men and women who are conveniently very mad at each other in November. If they were all mad at each other in June, they wouldn't have a big match to do about it.

But who won, and why, and is that a good thing? Alex and Kate will provide you with all the answers you need, on a brand new episode of SOUR GRAPS.

Survivor Series Scoops thread, potential returns, more

Hey guys, SRS here. I'm traveling tonight, but still trying to get a scoops thread together for you all! We have some Survivor Series and WrestleCade notes and I'll have a full review this week on Select.

Please beware of potential spoilers

- WWE held a Thanksgiving lunch for some staff on site for Survivor Series Thursday.

- John Cena and Brock Lesnar have their own dressing rooms backstage at Survivor Series

- WWE went to great lengths to protect rehearsals because of the open element of the stadium. They put curtains up for some rehearsals and didnt plan heavy entrance rehearsals because people would be able to see from their hotel.

- WWE were specifically trying to block from people filming on Tiktok, as it had been a problem all week.

- WWE tested their trons with Stone Cold Steve Austin and Titus O'Neil visuals, which leaked online.

- Brock Lesnar got into town Friday evening for the show and flew private per usual.

- WWE actually set up a ring backstage to help avoid spoilers as well. More from those filming than anything else.

- the order appears to be womens wargames, ic title, womens title, men's wargames

- We can confirm there has been discussion internally of Liv Morgan's return.

- WrestleVotes reports that there is “creative contention” over the entrance order.
“Sources indicate there is some creative contention over the entrance order for tonight’s men’s WarGames match. With the amount of star power in play, several scenarios were mapped out, and there are differing opinions,” wrote WrestleVotes.

- The setup will be a little different than previous years.

- Dominik Mysterio and the babyface women's team are MyBOOKIE favorites

The Unified/International/Continental lineage thing confuses me. So, the Unified title unified both the International and Continental titles, but it's its own thing and its own lineage, but it also is supposed to be continuing the lineage of the other two belts, I can't make heads or tails on how it works. Can you explain to me if you know how it works, please? Thank you, and thank you for doing what you do.

The All-Atlantic Title became the International Title.

The Continental Title was decided through the Continental Classic, under that tourney's rules.

The Continental and International Title were unified, and because the person holding the Continental Title won, that rule set carried over.

I know Tony Khan is adamant about keeping ticket prices affordable for us sickos and I’m glad for that. Is he able to turn a profit with gates most weeks? I’m going to a Dynamite in Tulsa at the BOK Center in January and I imagine it costs a pretty penny to use.

He doesn't need to turn a profit with the gates. He has a nine figure annual television deal. The gate is supplemental to that. It's a television property before a live events business. If you can do both, that is certainly preferable. They'd definitely much rather be doing 8-10k for weekly TV. As far as profit, they're a profitable company as is, and I think that having a more intimate, hotter TV crowd as opposed to large, dark, cavernous arenas.

What's the choreography process for WarGames like? Do the talents do a walk through all together?

Well, fortunately for you, I did a full feature on it from an NXT perspective in 2021! It varies from company to company, but usually you think of some spots leading up to it, and then the day before or day of you have a run through. They're typically very careful and particular with these because of so many moving parts.

Another TNA contract set to expire soon

Another TNA contract is set to come up soon, and earlier than expected.

Fightful Select has learned of a number of deals in TNA that are set to expire at the end of the year. Among them are Zachary Wentz, AJ Francis, Steve Maclin, among others. The latest we’ve heard is that of Jake Something.

Originally, Jake Something signed in the summer a couple of years ago, and it was believed his deal would be up around June 2026. However, Fightful Select was able to confirm that isn’t the case, and his current deal goes through the end of the year.

We’ve not heard if talks have started between the two sides, but TNA will have a busy end of the year with contracts.

I saw the fantastic news that Persephone is facing Athena At Final Battle for the ROH Women's title! I love Persephone's in-ring work and her skill on the mic is excellent. It's finally time for TK to put the title on someone else after 1,000+ days, right?!? :)

I don't think it's going to be Persephone. I think it's going to be, always was going to be and is always going to be Billie Starkz, even though they've done that twice. I think if Athena had her way, she would have dropped it to Billie way before now. But the Mercedes Mone/Athena team seemed like the perfect catalyst to make this work.

Hey hey Sean - At the beginning of shows for most sports and famously for WWE, there is a signature before the intro. AEW goes right into the intro for Dynamite and Collision. Do you feel they would benefit from having a signature to open with and has it ever been discussed to add one to improve the AEW branding? Thanks

I definitely think AEW should do this. I'm surprised they haven't, but also I could understand them not because you can't do anything without fueling the "they copied WWE" stuff. But if I were them, I'd have a beloved, familiar name do the intro and use it whenever it's appropriate for them. They've got enough great moments to highlight to do that.

Who do you think will take the pinfalls in the 2 wargames matches

Jimmy Uso, Logan Paul, Alexa Bliss or Kairi Sane.

DEBUNKATHON: Getting Rid Of All These TURKEYS!!!!!!

  • A number of WWE talent were very surprised that the AJ Lee and Stephanie McMahon podcast ended up happening, because they expected that to remain buried in the past.

  • If you couldn't tell, the GCW-Gail Kim thing has been a work for a while now. She remains open to making additional appearances.

  • Bear Bronson is scheduled for the TNA El Paso tapings, we're told.

  • There will not be a traditional media junket for Survivor Series. WWE doesn't do them for that show, because it would require talent flying in on Thanksgiving, which nobody wants. Taping Smackdown gave a little more flexibility for travel.

  • Regarding Power Town's Wrestling Toys, nobody we've talked to that has deals with them say they even know the status of the company.

  • Fightful is in Winston-Salem at Wrestlecade this week. Come say hello if you see us.

MLW

  • MLW is using the next couple of months to relocate to Charleston and set up their office. They'll be signing new talent and bringing in a lot of new faces. They are also staffing up.

  • Danny McBride was at the MLW show and seemed to enjoy himself. He was taking pictures with fans and wrestlers. MLW extended the limited edition t-shirt collaboration with Don Gato through the month. It's been a hot seller for them and a portion of the proceeds goes to the Charleston Animal Society.

  • MLW will be announcing their return to Charleston soon, and were happy with that show.

  • MLW is adjusting their Dallas show and pushing it to a new date because AEW will be in town the same night. Sources at MLW say it didn't make a lot of business sense to proceed.

Select Answers: Catering, Bianca Belair Injury, Brussels

Welcome to Select Answers, a feature that provides some of the answers to questions that were posed to Sean Ross Sapp in the most recent Fightful Weekly Q&A Podcast. The show drops every week on Fightful Select for subscribers.

When aggregating these posts please refer to it as "Fightful Select Answers Q&A" and tag Fightful, noting that it was in the Q&A format to avoid confusion.

***

Hello, any info on why Brussels, Belgium has been added last minute to the WWE Europe tour in January ? WWE stated on their website that Brussels has been added due to high demand but I was wondering if they had something else planned for Brussels maybe bigger that couldn’t happen since the success of raw here this past March so they decided to add a date last minute.

I haven't heard of anything else being added as of yet, but Brussels could be a victim of their own success. They know that they're going to go there and do crazy numbers, which is why they could add a show late. If Brussels pays a site fee to bring a big WWE show there, I'm sure WWE will. But right now, WWE does well without that. I was surprised it wasn't on the list from the jump with their tour, but all is right now. Wish it was televised though.

Knowing how sensitive those joints are and the fact the injury was far worse than anticipated, is there a chance that WWE never clears Bianca Belair? I know it seems far fetched but recent photos show the finger still not looking right and I haven’t seen many positive updates on her return

Not to downplay the injury, but nobody that I've spoken to has ever discussed that. I know it's been a long and frustrating road for Bianca, and she's had to spend more time outside the ring than she expected, but I've never heard a concern for retirement or not being cleared along the way. I've never heard of a finger injury ending someone's career, either. To be fair, this is the first time I've seen this specific injury in wrestling.

Totally trivial question: Do you know what food wrestlers in AEW like the most in backstage catering?

Grilled chicken is always a big hit regardless of company. They usually have a very good catering situation for the talent. I worked the Black Label Pro show last year and Paragon Talent Group had Jimmy Johns brought in, and that was neat.

New AEW signing confirmed

AEW has made a new signing.

All Elite Wrestling added to their women’s division lately, with Lacey Lane apparently making a good impression. We’ve been told by AEW sources that Lane signed with the company following her TBS Title match with Mercedes Mone. Fightful Select since confirmed the news.

In addition, Lane worked a couple of ROH tapings, with one being an Interim ROH Women’s TV Title Match against Mina Shirakawa. In addition, she’s worked a number of indies over the last month or so.

Lane performed in WWE under the name Kayden Carter, where she teamed with Katana Chance to become World Tag Team Champions.

Is the Sheamus injury a work?

SPOILER ALERT: If it's a work, it's a wildly insane pivot and a disappointing follow up to just have Miz replace him? I don't see the upside to that whatsoever. Just a bad situation, and a lame follow up. That's not a shot at Miz, either. It's just--- he lost already. Do something else. Something inspired.

Hey SRS! What’s the most absurd or short-lived stipulation match you think actually deserves a comeback, who would you book, and how would you modernize it?

I think the Boiler Room Brawl could be updated with some sort of Capture The Flag element that could resemble a ladder match. It could be used in a comedic element too, if the flag was "hidden." We went about 15 years (2005-2020) without many great new match types, but I think there are some that could be modernized and done well. Tables, ladders and cages could end up being a fun mess. A tables iron man match is a no brainer that I can't believe hasn't been done. I think there's also room for the Casino Gauntlet to have over the top rope eliminations that don't end the match.

I'm very surprised WWE never did a real team Elimination Chamber match. To me, it was a no brainer to make it their War Games. You could do it on video games for a while, even!!

Do you think chris jericho returns to wwe or stays with aew

I think the smart move is to return to WWE. There is nothing left for him to accomplish in AEW besides a legitimate tag team or trios run, and the reality is that the audience there doesn't have the appetite to see him, and we've already seen him in a group for five years straight. In WWE, there's fresh matchups, Rumble appearances, Mania programs, he can go to AAA and do things he's never done there, and even pop up in TNA, which he's never done. He's always seemed big on accomplishing things he hasn't. Maybe when he wants to have a farewell run, AEW would be a good option, or when things are fresh again. I did a full video on it at this link.

TNA in talks with AEW veteran

TNA has a ton of contracts coming up…but they’re working on bringing in a new talent.

TNA sources confirmed to Fightful Select that they have had conversations with Bear Bronson, with the intent for him to work the upcoming El Paso tapings. Those that we spoke to in the company said they’re hopeful they can sign him if all goes well.

Bronson has worked an insane independent schedule this year, wrestling almost 90 times since the start off March. He was previously signed to AEW before the deal lapsed at the start of the year. He’s been working Wrestling Open, ICW, GCW and countless others along the way.

An AEW source fairly recently actually confirmed that they had interest in potentially bringing him back as well.

hi Sean, I'm not posing this question with the intention of asking you to put anyone on blast, but can you think of any career tag teams (thinking guys like the Road Warriors, Bushwhackers, Nasty Boys, etc.) where one guy was maybe a demonstrably better worker than the other or had significantly more singles star potential?

Well I love Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, but I think everyone would agree that Bret Hart was miles ahead of him in the ring. But the Anvil's presence and personality is what set them apart. With the Headshrinkers, Samu was fine, but Fatu had something way more special, which is why WWE tried four different times with him. Billy Gunn was a clear standout over Bart during the Smokin' Gunns team. Harlem Heat gets brought up a lot, but I honestly think that if Stevie Ray wasn't seven years older, he would have got a better upper card run. TNA had teamed Elix Skipper and David Young, and Elix Skipper was miles ahead. Also Judy Bagwell ran circles around Rick Steiner in the ring.

Are the Creeds and Ivy Nile being held off of Raw awaiting Chad Gable’s return or have they just disappeared due to the poor booking of the tag division as usual?

I keep asking about them, and not getting answers. I've found it a complete waste to not use them if they're healthy. I would like to believe they're being held off until Chad Gables return, at which time they'll feud with the Americanos, but even they haven't been on TV much. Hopefully that's all it is, because the Creeds and Ivy haven't really benefited from this switch as of yet.

Who do you see being the cover star of the next 2K game?

CM Punk. They just barely had enough time to get him in a couple of games ago, and now they've had time to flesh out a full story for him. They can put some really good stuff into a story mode for him. WWE 13 was actually one of my favorite editions, which had him on the cover.

Update On Naito And Bushi/wXw Issues

Naito and Bushi have solved their issues with wXw.

Earlier this week, wXw announced Bushi and Naito for several shows after the week prior’s events that led to the promotion canceling all future appearances due to issues with a new assistant.

Now, Fightful Select has learned that the promotion worked with the pair to solve the issue following Naito’s apology in an interview with Tokyo Sports. wXw sources told us that it was a straight forward situation after that, noting that ‘to many people were involved’ and that Naito expressed a desire to the promotion that he wanted to make up for the issues caused.

It was also noted to us that the belief is that the backlash to the issues in Japan played a part in Naito looking to make amends, with wXw letting other European promotions know that the issue had been resolved after alerting them to the issues last week, with praise for Naito and company’s professionalism.

Admiral Theatre provided the following to Fightful (THIS IS A STRIP CLUB!)

**Admiral Theatre to CM Punk:

"If you want to wrestle in the Church of Chicago, our doors are already open."**

Chicago, IL - CM Punk recently shared his dream of wrestling at Wrigley Field, calling it "church" and the next Chicago landmark he wants to conquer. But with baseball schedules, calendars, and logistics tying up dates at the Friendly Confines, The World Famous Admiral Theatre is stepping forward with a Chicago-strong alternative:

If Wrigley Field is the Church of Baseball,

then the Admiral Theatre is the Church of Chicago Nightlife - and our cathedral is wide open for CM Punk and WWE in 2026.

This city has more than one legendary landmark, and Punk doesn't need to wait for MLB to hand him a date. Chicago already has another historic stage, iconic in its own right, ready for him anytime.

TWO CHICAGO LEGENDS. TWO CHURCHES. ONE HOMETOWN ICON.

Wrigley Field has its ivy-covered walls and a legacy shaped by legends like Ryne Sandberg and Ernie Banks.

The Admiral Theatre has its world-famous pole, a history stamped by Chicago icons like Al Capone and Patsy Rich.

Both venues are cathedrals of their industries.

Both are deeply woven into the fabric of their neighborhoods.

Both have decades of Chicago stories soaked into their walls.

One is the Friendly Confines.

The other is the hottest party in town.

And both are ready to host a moment that only CM Punk can create.

THE ADMIRAL'S INVITATION TO PUNK

While Wrigley sorts out seasons, schedules, and stadium calendars, the Admiral offers something priceless: immediate availability and a crowd that will blow the roof off the building.

"Chicago is Punk's city," management said. "If he wants a legendary venue with history, character, and Chicago attitude, we've been here the whole time - and we don't need a baseball lockout to open our doors."

Whether it's a WWE showcase, a special appearance, a homecoming event, or a one-night-only spectacle, the Admiral is ready to give Punk the hometown moment he deserves.

WHY THE WORLD FAMOUS ADMIRAL THEATRE IS READY RIGHT NOW

Why is it every time a contract in AEW is up everyone says they should go to NXT? We never hear the opposite

I don't think that it happens every time, but it certainly happens a lot. I think for a few reasons. One, WWE has established a track record with a number of talent that they're going to go there before the main roster. I don't think anyone would have had an issue with Ricky Saints, Ethan Page or Blake Monroe going to the main roster, but WWE sent them there. Unless they've had a main event level AEW run, it seems like that's the path, and even in the case of Monroe, it still happened. There are also plenty of people in AEW who still need TV and in ring seasoning, so that's why.

What is your prediction for Anna Jay with the looming expiration of her AEW contract? Does she stay or does she go?

I think she'll end up staying in All Elite Wrestling, but from what I heard, she's keeping her options open. She seems to like working with Tay Melo, and I think they'll be used quite a bit in the tag team division. I'd like to see both of them getting more reps on TV, because wrestling 20 times a year on TV makes it hard to get to the next level.

Do you know if WWE is building towards Becky Lynch vs Jessika Carr? Cause that's really what it feels like at the moment.

I've heard nothing resembling that at all, but Jessika could absolutely do it. She worked a couple of matches this year on EVOLVE under a mask, and it was her first in-ring matches since 2017. She's only 34 and keeps herself in great shape and ready at all times. I don't think that's the route they're going, but I kind of hope they do at least once. I could absolutely see Becky Lynch losing a shock match to "Kalyx." Everything I know about Becky Lynch leads me to believe she'd want that.

NJPW Contract Expirations May Differ This Year

NJPW’s contract situation might be different than that of previous years.

As is usually the case, a number of NJPW contracts were set to expire in January of 2025 this past year, which we reported on. Traditionally, NJPW has one year deals for many talent from January to January. Fightful reported on a number of those contracts, but several featured talent who didn't sign new deals until months after the original expiration. Many deals that were officially signed in the spring and Summer were just made through January 2026, and the talent were paid on a handshake prior to that. Some talent indicated to Fightful that their deals actually extend past January of 2026, so it isn't as hard and fast a rule as previously about when they'll be up.

Some talent, such as Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors, started doing work with AEW in 2025 more regularly on a per-appearance basis in addition to NJPW work.

There have been a number of free agent talent that spoke with Fightful and said that they didn't hear back from NJPW when they wanted to work there. There was one prominent American wrestler who was willing to work in NJPW for a discount, and still didn't hear back. Along with the Strong brand effectively being ended and less United States dates, NJPW let several deals associated with their former US brand expire.

Select Answers: Andrade Non Compete, Stone Cold Mania Incident, ZOOTOPIA!

Have you heard anything more about Andrade's non compete being worldwide and not US-only?

I was under the impression right out of the gate that it was worldwide, otherwise he could have quickly taken New Japan and CMLL bookings. I haven't really seen WWE do one that was just in the United States, but maybe I'm just not remembering correctly or something.

Did anything ever come from the Wrestlemania incident with Steve Austin? I figured there might be legal action involved, but obviously that would have been made public.

The night it happened I was told "you probably won't hear anything else about this." I want to be clear that it is speculatory, but when I asked why, here's the message that I got. "The person was front row at WrestleMania. They're already a fan, and already spent a ton of money to be there. WWE will almost certainly offer them something to make good on it and in order for that to happen, the person will definitely be required to sign a non-disclosure, and it will prevent further legal action." No news is a pretty good indication that person was taken care of.

this one might be a bit random but CM Punk and Roman Reigns are in Zootopia 2, how did that happen? did Disney approach WWE or the talent agency that represent them and was the casting decision for them specifically?

The agent (the CONTROVERSIAL Nick LoPiccolo!) in that situation and his company would call up Disney and pitch ideas for a lot of the roles in the film. Disney liked the idea of Roman Reigns an CM Punk as the zebras, but especially them together. Punk agreed initially, then Roman Reigns later, which surprised WWE from what we're told. Roman ended up wanting to do it because he knew his kids would love it.

Alex & Cresta's SOUR GRAPS: AEW Full Gear 2025 | Jersey Nitpick

YOUTUBE: https://youtu.be/5B-So46aoew

It's AEW's annual November PPV, Full Gear, live from Newark, New Jersey.

A new National Champion has been crowned, and there have been two other title changes so far as well!

So who are the lucky competitors? You'll have to tune in to find out.

Only one bad thing has happened tonight, and the crowd loved it, so was it really that bad after all?
(Yes. It was terrible. A travesty.)

But will anything else suck?

Will Statlander lose her title so soon after winning it?
Will the Young Bucks finally join the Don Callis family?
Will the Hangman and Samoa Joe feud actually continue past tonight?

We can only hope not!

Alex and special guest Cresta Starr have all the answers to all your questions, on a brand new episode of SOUR GRAPS!

AEW Full Gear SCOOPS THREAD

Welcome to the Fightful AEW Full Gear SCOOPS thread. We will update this throughout the day and night as we get more information. In addition to Full Gear news, we have a ton of AEW updates for subscribers as well. After the show, join for the Fightful Select exclusive SOUR GRAPS post show.

Tonight and Full Gear

  • We are expecting the Hangman Page and Samoa Joe feud to continue in some capacity following tonight.

  • AEW is slated to get a number of stars back in the next month, including MJF. MJF is scheduled for WrestleCade next weekend and doesn't typically do a lot of appearances when he's out of action. He recently wrapped Violent Night 2.

  • We aren't sure of Big Boom AJ's AEW future after this week, but he and QT Marshall have wanted to team together since he was brought in and it finally became a reality. QT is a long time friend of AJ's. His first AEW match happened a year ago this weekend, so it's reasonable to think he's on a one-year deal. That is speculatory and not a report.

  • It was claimed to Fightful that NWA talent and personnel were asked to lay off the criticism of AEW's National Title, but not by AEW themselves. It was implied it was from within NWA.

  • Hangman Page and Samoa Joe are set to close the show as of this afternoon.

  • AEW has a lot of indie wrestlers as extras on scene.

AEW news

  • Swerve Strickland is supposed to be back within the next month, barring any setbacks. There was talk of him originally having time off after AEW All In, but it got pushed back a bit.

  • Jeremy Flynn, who works with TNA in live events, is finishing up with the company this weekend.

  • Regarding the Speedball Mike Bailey/Shelton Benjamin non-kickout audible. We weren't told of any heat on anyone, but it was stressed to us that's why audibles are frowned upon. Because the ref or the coach/agent isn't in on it.

  • Tony Khan appeared on the Ariel Helwani show. For quite some time, talent from AEW were not able to appear on the program because of Helwani's previous comments towards Tony Khan. AEW's head of PR that was mentioned in the interview worked hard to establish and repair the relationship.

  • Young Bucks noted on Adam's Apple that they were "very close" to signing with WWE in 2018. WWE was offering them $500,000 guaranteed for a multi-year deal. At the time, the minimum in WWE was significantly lower than it is now, with way more dates.

  • Regarding Britt Baker being brought back "when the time is right," we haven't heard any cases of her being mentioned or planned of late.

  • This past week, Rebel (not Reba) revealed her primary pulmonary lymphoma diagnosis. She actually remains under AEW contract is featured on their roster page, and is being paid by the company.

  • Zayda Steel is not signed to AEW as of yet, although many in the company expect it. She's been at a number of recent TV episodes.

  • AEW's got back-to-back weeks of double tapings, but many AEW talent are still facing the same travel schedule. There was Boston Wednesday for a double taping, Newark this weekend, Nashville for the double taping, then many wrestlers have Wrestlecade Thanksgiving weekend, and back to Indiana on December 3 and Columbus for ROH/AEW on December 5-6.

BETTING ODDS

  • Hangman Page is a monster favorite on this show.

  • Brodido, Kris Statlander, Mark Briscoe, Kenny Omega & Jurassic Express are all favorites.

  • While AEW odds aren't up on MyBookie, you can bet on almost anything any time anywhere, and get a bonus when you sign up at this link.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS

  • Ricochet and Bobby Lashley were considered by many the front runners to become National Champion.

Do you think WWE should consider booking qualifying matches for the spots in the Royal Rumbles? There are 9 weeks between Survivor Series and Royal Rumble this year. Rumble qualifiers would create lots of matches with stakes, and could be used as a story device to start, continue and end feuds. 60 matches across 27 episodes (9 RAWs, 9 NXTs, 9 SMACKDOWNs) is totally doable. (And maybe you do only 50 matches to leave room for surprises and part-timers like Roman & Lesnar.) You could have the qualifiers feature matches with competitors wrestling across brands (like The Last Time Is Now Tournament) or you could make the matches exclusive to each brand, i.e. RAW vs. RAW, NXT vs. NXT, and SD vs. SD (like the MITB & Elimination Chamber qualifiers).

I don't, and there's a good reason why. They're not gonna do 30 of them. There has to be room for surprises and last minute changes. I only want to see qualifiers if it makes sense, and it almost never makes sense for the Royal Rumble. For Elimination Chamber or Money in the Bank, sure. But for the Royal Rumble where there has to be an element of perceived randomness, not so much.

Collision has been in need of it's first full-time lead commentator that can keep up with the action, and Nigel's quips. Has there been any discussions on finding someone suitable for the role?

They try to keep their commentary team flexible, but they've had to add a little bit in the last year or two. Kevin Kelly got fired in March 2024, Jim Ross is on PPV only and had some health struggles, and Tony Schiavone is slowly adjusting his role as well. They re-signed Ian Riccaboni, but he likes to maintain his day job, and they added Bryan Danielson. I would be adding a women's commentator if I were them, probably Veda Scott. I think between the broadcasters they have, that would help cover things well.

Could you provide any updates on Tony D and his current status with WWE?

Well, he's still under contract. That has been reiterated to me a number of times. He's not wrestled at all since July, and the people I speak to at the Performance Center say that they don't really see him around much these days. He was backstage at the November 11 episode of the show, which is a rarity. He wasn't doing anything wrestling-related based on what I heard, and I've not heard of imminent creative plans.

DEBUNKATHON: Liv Morgan, Shane McMahon, Nick Hogan, Speedball/Shelton and MORE!

Welcome to the Fightful Friday DEBUNKATHON. In addition to debunking weird social media rumors that somehow gain traction, we have a loaded news update.

Today:

  • Jody Threat

  • Cam Skattebo

  • Austin Theory

  • WWE MSG

  • Speedball/Shelton

  • Ratings

  • Nick Hogan

  • Wrestle Kingdom

  • Liv Morgan

  • Shane McMahon

  • We will have a loaded AEW scoops thread ahead of Full Gear

  • We'd reported earlier this week that Jody Threat told In The Weeds her TNA contract is up soon. Fightful Select has confirmed it's up on December 1.

  • Although he's not involved now, we're told that Austin Theory was legitimately an option to be used in WarGames before Seth Rollins' injury.

  • We are told the Cam Skattebo WWE spot was nailed down the day of WWE Raw. There was to be as little physicality as possible. Skattebo is a big wrestling fan. Those we spoke to in the sports media world claimed that the New York Giants didn't have an issue with the appearance.

  • Netflix and WWE hosted a Bodega pre-show party in New York City that was attended by a number of celebrities that were shown on WWE Raw.

  • Kazeem Famuyide was at the WWE Raw pre-show party. He is a former WWE writer who has become a top podcast host. Though Grayson Waller wasn't on Raw, he was at the pre-show party.

  • As reported earlier this week, we've confirmed that Joe Hendry is on a main roster-level deal with WWE. Anything above the main roster minimum is considered that.

  • Tony Khan mentioned during the Full Gear media call that Kazuchika Okada was always planned as Hiroshi Tanahashi's opponent for Wrestle Kingdom. Kenny Omega was also discussed internally within New Japan Pro Wrestling. Shinsuke Nakamura was only considered a "pipe dream."

  • NJPW expects the remaining Wrestle Kingdom tickets that are set to be released to be sold very quickly.

  • The Undertaker's theme song was played in the closing seconds of the Buffalo Bills/Houston Texans game.

  • To clarify this week, Fightful only confirmed that Liv Morgan was set to travel in to New York around the time of WWE Raw. She was in the city early in the week doing some sort of work for WWE.

  • Nick Hogan has been training with NWA's Bryan Idol of late. When we spoke with WWE sources, they said they've not heard any discussion whatsoever of Nick Hogan wrestling in the company since the 2010s, and even then it was a "what if?"

  • We asked WWE sources why Shane McMahon wasn't shown in the crowd. The claim was that the people shown in the audience were promoting projects and Shane was just visiting. It was stressed to us that he was welcomed to the show.

  • WWE does not have traditional media junkets planned ahead of Survivor Series, which is standard for that specific PLE. The reason is that in order to get talent in for the Friday media junket, they'd need to fly them in on Thanksgiving, which nobody, including the media wants.

AEW Schedule Notes

  • AEW Collision on Saturday, December 13 will air at 4:30 PM Eastern. It won't be head-to-head with Saturday Night's Main Event.

  • Wednesday, December 17 has AEW Dynamite at 8 PM Eastern, AEW Collision at 10 PM Eastern & Countdown To World's End at 11 PM Eastern.

  • AEW Collision on Saturday, December 20 is slated to air at 2:30 PM Eastern.

  • AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, December 24 is listed at 6 PM Eastern.

  • AEW Christmas Collision is listed on Thursday, December 25 (Christmas Day) at 9 PM Eastern.

  • There is no Tailgate Brawl listed yet for Saturday, December 27 before World's End.

Elsewhere

  • Wrestlenomics has done some incredible work reporting on the pro wrestling discrepancies in regards to the new Big Data + Panel numbers. CW was not happy with the discrepancies. When Fightful asked Carlos Silva last month if this affected negotiations for their deal, it hadn't even hit his radar yet.

  • Bryan Alvarez mentioned on Wrestling Observer Live that the finish of Speedball Mike Bailey and Shelton Benjamin was messed up because that wasn't actually the finish. Shelton Benjamin tried to call an audible in the ring, and the ref didn't hear him, and it led to the awkward spot. We were told that was absolutely true.

ASH BY ELEGANCE

Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp spoke with former TNA Knockouts Champion Ash By Elegance.

They spoke about meeting over ten years ago at the Arnold Sports Festival and the NXT shows that happened there. She said that two of her biggest supporters when she left WWE were Bayley and Mercedes Mone, and both helped her out a lot. She also said that Shawn Michaels made her promise she wouldn't quit wrestling after being let go by WWE.

For Ash, she said it was very important to completely reinvent herself after leaving WWE, and wanted to be a different character. She was frustrated that initially she got comparisons to Toni Storm, because she wanted to be her own thing and thinks that she succeeded in doing so. She was very happy with how the Elegance brand ended up

DEBUNKATHON

Other notes

  • Fightful will have a presence at AEW Full Gear, WrestleCade, ROH Final Battle, and MLW in Orlando. If there are talent nearby who want to do interviews, let us know!

Select Answers: Wrestling tropes, Santos Escobar, Denver PPV

Welcome to Select Answers, a feature that provides some of the answers to questions that were posed to Sean Ross Sapp in the most recent Fightful Weekly Q&A Podcast. The show drops every week on Fightful Select for subscribers.

When aggregating these posts please refer to it as "Fightful Select Answers Q&A" and tag Fightful, noting that it was in the Q&A format to avoid confusion.

What’s your most hated wrestling trope? I was never been a fan of the trademark Hogan “Look at the crowd shocked face” bit.

I'll give you a couple. One from a wrestling perspective and one from a reaction perspective.

I loathe the "OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY KICKED OUT OF THIS MOVE THAT NEVER FINISHES ANYONE" face. Drives me nuts, man. Do something different.

From a wrestling perspective, it's one of the most senseless, overdone spots. Person 1 does a shoulderblock, knocks their opponent to the ground, looks at them, and hits the ropes. This just sets up the drop down for the other guy. What move was person 1 doing that caused them to run away from their opponent with their shoulders on the mat? A people's elbow??? A rolling thunder? That cool little forearm smash where Stone Cold would hit the ropes and go "you son...of...a.... BITCH" before doing it? It makes no sense!!!

Any word on Santos Escobar? If they re-signed him, I hoped they would have some substantial creative plans for him. Certainly one of my favs and I wish they would let him wrestle.

He was backstage at least once at WWE Raw, but I haven't heard much of anything else for him. It's surprising to me that he hasn't been used as of yet, because I heard he was making very good money to come back to the company. I would have tried to strike while the iron was hot with his buzz, but they didn't seem to see it that way. They might still have substantial creative plans for him, it just wasn't immediately upon him re-signing.

Hi Sean do you see denver getting a aew ppv or wwe ple

I'm kind of shocked that they haven't had one in so long. When Will Washington was still doing Grapsody, that was something that he would mention often. I never heard a specific reason as to why companies don't take PPV events there. They seem to have nice amenities and I've loved the city when I visited. Hopefully Will pushes for one there. Maybe it's an issue of very little local talent being from there.
