December News

Some things of note this month: my new pomegranate skirt, made in collaboration with Maya Kern, will be available in her store on the 14th, plus my in-stock designs are 25% off until December 10th as part of her store-wide holiday sale! So if you've ever wanted to grab any of her skirts, now's a great time!

Also, I'm starting to dabble with the idea of offering some kind of print-on-demand merch in the future. I've always been hesitant since so many POD companies seem to offer less-than-stellar quality, but recently I've been hearing good things about Fourthwall, so I'm doing some research! (and please rest assured that I'll order samples of anything I intend to offer so that I can test the quality myself beforehand)

I think my first test is going to be an organic cotton tote bag based on my "Sweet Citrus" illustration. I want to make some new designs eventually, too, but if there's anything I've already drawn that you'd like to see (or any specific kind of merch that you're interested in), feel free to let me know and I'll absolutely take it into consideration!

Roman

Not a wallpaper this time, but something I've been working on in bits and pieces over the past half year or so. It was hard to find time between obligations to work on something purely for fun, and harder for that to align with me feeling up to the work in the first place, but I'm glad I was able to make something that let me kind of organically follow wherever the process took me instead of being laser-focused on the outcome! I feel like recently I've been caught up in a very specific way of doing things, so it was nice to break out of it for a bit.

When I was a teen I was really into a "fantasy band" called Sound Horizon, especially their album Roman, and lately I've been nostalgic about it, so this is based on that. Hopefully someone else out there knows what I'm talking about hahah!!!

I can't say for sure when I'll have the time, but I'd like to make a casual post about this eventually to show and talk a bit about the process. If I do, it'll be posted in the Harvest tier. (Emphasis on it being casual though!)

Patreon Updates

Some quick changes worth mentioning!

From now on, wallpapers will be downloadable as attachments at the bottom of the post instead of as images within the gallery. This is because Patreon suddenly changed the way galleries display, making it difficult to navigate to images in larger sets. (I've gone back and updated past wallpapers to match, too)

And speaking of UI changes, they've also made the notification center WAY more difficult to parse, so it's easier for comments to slip through the cracks - if you have feedback, run into any issues, or have concerns that require my attention, feel free to DM me at any time to make sure I see it!

Lastly, while I've been posting art as an early access perk for the $1 tier, I'm going to turn those into public posts so that everyone who follows me here can see them. The discount code is staying where it is, though, and I may post the occasional WIP in the $1 tier to make up for it!

Pomegranate Preview + Process

This is an early peek at another upcoming skirt collaboration with Maya Kern that I finished a while back! This is going to be a super casual post, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

(If you'd like a more in-depth look at my techniques / the process of other illustrations, you can check out my process post masterlist!)

We plan these pretty early, so even though this was in the works months ago, we had fall/winter designs on our minds - in this case, I was thinking about dark, warm colors. I've also really been enjoying drawing fruit designs, and pomegranates are in season in the fall/winter, so they seemed like a perfect match!

When I sent over my first pass, we decided it was a little too bare to be a hem design - it'd make for a pretty boring skirt. Maya brought up the idea of an all-over pattern, but I was set on making the hem work! I used her skirt mockup to rough out a revision that filled the space a bit better, plus an all-over pattern just for comparison's sake. In the end, we decided both worked, so we ran a poll on social media to see which version people preferred (in the end, hem won)

Now that I had the composition down, I drew a tighter sketch over it, double-checking the repeat every once in a while to ensure that it didn't look awkward when copy-pasted side by side. Once I was happy with that, I moved on to lineart, then colors, then rendering!

When rendering, my main goal was to make it feel rich and vivid, especially the seeds. Pomegranates always strike me as very luxurious and elegant, and I wanted that feeling to come through, so I paid extra attention to the contrast between the deep red tones and the highlights.

This one was so different from my usual work, so it was a challenge, and it turned out a bit brighter than I expected, but I'm happy with it! I'm so excited to see how the final product turns out  (I'm not sure when it will be up for sale just yet!)

PS: Sorry about the watermarks! I try to keep my signature pretty small, but for contract work I have to make it a little bigger!

Hi all! I promised I'd update you on the situation before the next payment period rolls around, so here's where things currently stand!

While I'm still being careful with my hands, I do think things have improved enough that I can continue posting the usual monthly illustration + wallpapers + coloring pages/lineart! Unfortunately, though, I won't be posting consistent bonuses just yet - so additional sets, process posts, etc will be on the backburner for a while.

I'm also going to experiment with choosing the wallpaper topics myself rather than running polls, since this will give me an extra week of wiggle room - if it doesn't feel like a significant difference, though, I'll bring the polls back (regardless, please feel free to continue making suggestions/requests and I'll consider them when choosing!)

If anything else changes, I'll let you all know as quickly as possible!

Personal/Patreon Update

Unfortunately, my wrists (both because I overcompensated and overworked my left too lol) are still a little worn out - this means that the wallpaper poll will once again be pushed back. I do have one more round of buffer wallpapers, though, so I'll be posting those + the coloring page version!
