Tulip Kiss

Hi all! Unfortunately my wrist still doesn't feel quite ready for work yet, so I couldn't draw a brand new illustration/wallpaper based on the poll winner, but I luckily keep a short backlog of completed ones just in case, so this is one of those! This is color-matched with my previous wallpaper illustration, so they go really well together!

Important note regarding this month: I've been running into some wrist strain in the past week due to overwork, and I'm trying to tread carefully - as much as I hate to say it, if it feels too risky, I may not draw a brand new wallpaper. BUT!!! I always make sure to have at least one extra one finished as a buffer, so I do have a new one ready (even if it doesn't match the theme), and the Pikmin wallpaper will still be posted as a bonus. If I do have to go that route, this month's winner will carry over to next month. Hopefully it won't come to that, though!

Not much to report here - I've admittedly been mildly worried about the collapse of twitter since, like many creators, I rely on it for a sizable chunk of my income, so I've been accepting a lot of other work. This unfortunately means that I've started feeling the effects of over-using my wrist, so I'm having to cut back and tread carefully, and it's making me realize I really took it for granted... Sunbathers

Here's this month's illustration! I'm glad that I got to make something so summery!

I'm having a really hard time deciding which version to have available as a print, so if you have a preference, feel free to leave a comment! I'm going to try to put the print up in my shop within a week or so.

Not a ton that I can report here this month, unfortunately! But as far as non-work stuff goes, in the past couple of months I've been really into Pikmin Bloom. It's a super cute walking app that lets you collect different types of pikmin with different little decorations. I've always enjoyed being outdoors, but recently it's been hard to convince myself to "waste" time just walking around, so this has kind of tricked me into thinking that walking is also productive haha... I've also discovered a lot of new places because of it. It's fun!! If you like Pikmin, you should give it a try!

Personal Updates

I've finally finished off the final bit of book release-related events, so I won't have to scurry around so much this month!! I do have a couple of things in the works, though:

If anyone here is near Alabama's Jefferson county, a couple of prints that I personally framed and matted will be on display in the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest! They should be up until the end of the month, and they will be available for purchase during that time.

Also, since she's already teased these in her newsletter, I wanted to let you all know that I collaborated on another round of skirt designs with Maya Kern!

Maya's skirts are made using certified ethical labor, come in sizes ranging from XS-8X, have pockets deep enough to hold a Nintendo Switch, and she's recently swapped manufacturers, so the build and print quality are now higher. I'm not totally sure when these specific designs will be available, but you can either join her store newsletter or follow any of her various social media accounts for updates!

Personal Updates

Work actually slowed down a little for me this month, but I wound up not having much time for personal art anyway because life had other plans 😭

As I mentioned before, a pipe burst and flooded part of our apartment early last month, which left us with a mess that we still haven't quite finished dealing with (but we're close!) We got hit with a few other things, but I don't want to list out all of my woes haha. Anyway, fingers crossed that this month is better! 🤞

Work-wise, there are a few things worth mentioning coming up!

Grace Needs Space, the graphic novel I finished illustrating for Random House last year, is hitting shelves on the 4th! It will be available wherever books are sold and can be preordered, too. (PS - If you're in the Birmingham, AL area, I'll be at Thank You Books on the 8th from 11am-12pm for a signing and Q+A event!)

On top of that, The Sprite and the Gardener will be getting a cheaper, slightly smaller paperback release on the 4th, so keep an eye out for that! 🌸
