Personal Updates

Another chaotic month!

I've felt like this year has repeatedly pulled the rug out from under my feet, so I've started casting my line wherever and whenever I can as a backup. One of the more unexpected places I've gotten a bite has been... toy design!? It's very different from anything I've done before, and I unfortunately can't show anything that I've worked on, but somehow despite all the challenges it's been a nice change of pace. It's kind of a fun challenge to work within the constraints of someone else's pre-determined style.

I hope I can keep experiencing different kinds of art in the future, too.

One of the weirder affects that all of this nebulous work in digital art has had on me, though, is that I've started craving all kinds of tactile experiences. So on one hand I've gotten more interested in the idea of customizing dolls (painting, sewing, wigmaking, etc), but then on the other hand I've also gotten really into washing and taking care of my car... I guess there's a range in what can be considered therapeutic!

Shinigami Eyes

I've been wanting to draw Misa for a while, and since October has started creeping up I've been really REALLY wanting to draw Misa...! It's been a while since I've gotten to just relax and draw a big sparkly portrait.

When I started this I went ahead and made the canvas pretty tall, so I'll be posting wallpaper versions to the Harvest tier early next month!

It feels like it's becoming a pattern at this point, but this month has also been super hectic 😭 But I was able to find a *little* time to sketch!

I'm planning on finishing and turning the Misa and Pochita into bonus October wallpapers, so you'll be seeing those soon!

"Mushroom Path" Coloring Sheets

Going forward, I want to try something new, so I'll be making coloring page versions of each monthly wallpaper as we go! Unlike past coloring sheets, these will come in A4 size, too.

Coloring Pages Set #2

Since a lot of people seemed to enjoy the first set, I've put together a second set of coloring pages! I wanted this set to collect most of my bunny-themed art in one place.

There's both a printable PDF for those who want to break out the crayons and colored pencils, plus a PSD that includes all of the images with transparency for easy digital coloring. Both sets are sized at 8.5" x 11" so that they can be printed onto a standard sheet of US copy paper.

Patreon Updates

As mentioned previously, I'll be making one change this month - from now on, wallpaper polls will be going up on the first of each month and ending on the fifth!

Also, after a really exciting month last month, I just wanted to jump in and say a huge thank you to everyone here, whether you signed up today or on day 1. Running this space has been so much fun, and the support I receive here has allowed me to draw all sorts of things that I wouldn't have been able to focus on before. The wallpapers especially - I'm always so excited to draw something that I know could become a part of someone's daily life. I can't express my appreciation enough.

I hope I get to make even more things that you can use in your day-to-day in the future!

Personal Updates

This month has been yet another work month, so I don't have a lot to report here. As mentioned above, I've gotten into dolls, so maybe I'll talk about that sometimes hahah! I initially jumped in because a friend of mine has been using them extensively for reference, and it's amazing what it's done for her workflow, but I can already tell that I kind of want to get into customization, too... We'll see where I wind up with this.

PS, when I woke up this morning, the room temperature felt crisp!? I hope some nice fall weather is coming your way, too!

Sorry to be so TMM-themed recently, Ichigo is my #1 go-to when I just want to draw something relaxing haha 😭

I'm still kind of playing around with the idea of opening chibi commissions eventually, so I'm trying to figure out a style for them!

Macaron

I thought about adding "macarons" to the wallpaper poll, but I knew I would want to draw them anyway, so I'm making a bonus wallpaper! I should be able to post the full set early next month!

Speaking of the wallpaper poll, after testing posting it a month in advance, I've decided to go ahead and move it back to month-of (example: the September poll will be posted in September instead of in August). I think it will just make things a little easier, and that way it will be decided by the patrons who are signed up that month. I hope that makes sense! (and if you have wallpaper suggestions, please feel free to send them my way!)

Here's one from 2016! I still haven't retired this as a print, but I want to share it anyway. I feel like this is still one of my more popular pieces in spite of its age!? I'm glad everyone likes it 😭 I should really replay Yume Nikki one day...

The process for this one was a little strange, so I didn't include a separate lineart file since not everything in the image appears in the lineart. That being said, if you want to try coloring it anyway, please feel free to use the layered PSD!

Printable Greeting Cards Set #2: "Cat Nap" + "Rat Pack"

Here's another set of greeting cards! These are 3.5"x5" and can be printed, cut, and folded (I recommend using cardstock if you can!)

You can print two cards per sheet of A4 or 8.5" x 11" paper - I've included a page of just cats, just rats, and a page with both.

"Bakery" won the wallpaper poll, so I went with a bread theme! While this version includes Waddle Dees, there will also be a plain bread version and a version with bunnies instead, so there are a few variations to choose from!

Blanketed

I was able to carve out a little time for myself, so I drew this for fun! I always really enjoy drawing fabric folds.

Not much to report this time! I do plan on uploading a bonus wallpaper to the Harvest tier, though - I hope you'll look forward to it!

And an update since I mentioned a while ago that I was considering opening my shop to sell off some convention stock - I'm planning to attend an outdoor art walk within the next couple of months, so I'm going to hold off on opening an online store for now. I'm sorry if I got anyone's hopes up! I'll be sure that the next time I float the idea I have more certainty about it!

Personal Updates

I've had a pretty interesting month! First of all, the cover for Grace Needs Space, the book I was working on with Benjamin Wilgus at Random House, has been revealed! It's now available for preorder and will be released April 4th, 2023!

And in weirder news, we've been housing this surprise stray rabbit...!?

According to a person who lives nearby, she'd been around for a couple of months, so we're assuming she was an easter rabbit that someone decided to abandon. She was covered in fleas and ticks and (GROSS WARNING) had a botfly larva in her neck...!? (end of gross warning) But she's feeling much better now!

We also nabbed another hungry stray cat (who's really sweet!) and got him neutered and set up with a rescue. I don't think he'll have any problem being adopted!

Beyond that, I've been trying to take on more work than usual, so I'm pretty wiped! But I'm hoping to be able to get back into the swing of personal work sometime soon. I want to make more stuff for myself and for everyone here!

I've been taking on extra work to fill in the gaps recently, so I really didn't have much time at all to draw for myself this month, unfortunately... So this update includes a couple of previews of things that I'll hopefully be able to share soon-ish!

I've also included the rough sketch for the seafoam wallpaper, including a color scheme that I didn't go with in the end!

Photo Reference Set #3: Cherry Blossoms

I was able to take a lot of photos of cherry blossoms over the spring, so I thought they'd be a good subject for a reference pack! This contains two very different-looking species: the first half is the yoshino cherry, and the second half is the Japanese flowering cherry.

As usual, I tried to get pictures of the blossoms from the front, side, and back, plus pictures of leaves, etc. So these aren't the prettiest photos, but hopefully they'll be useful as reference material!

Terms of use: Feel free to reference, trace, or edit these for use in both personal and commercial work! All that I ask is that you don't sell or distribute the original photos or claim the original photos as your own work.

I made versions both with and without the bunnies, so you can choose whichever one works best for you! Also, I did things a little differently with the tablet sizes this time - I just uploaded them at a higher resolution without cropping them, so you can choose to display any section of the image.

Wallpaper Masterlist

It occurred to me that it's becoming difficult to find past wallpapers, so I set up a wallpaper masterlist on my website! This way you can easily scroll through a gallery of thumbnails, see which ones come with a tablet version, which ones come with variants, etc. If you click a thumbnail it will take you directly to that wallpaper's corresponding patreon page!

I'm going to start linking it in all future wallpaper posts - I hope it helps!
