Some further exciting news is that the channel is growing! This past week Philip DeFranco shared not one, but two of my films!! If you don't know Philip DeFranco he's a bit of a YouTube legend with over 6 million subscribers! Very exciting to know he is watching!
Lastly, the latest film Dads Moving Furniture features the first instance of Patreon dialogue, submitted by Eric McKenzie! I've been so busy getting the channel off the ground that I haven't been great about advertising the rewards, but if you donate $5 you get to submit a character name that I have to use in an upcoming short! For $10 you get to submit a line of dialogue! These can stack monthly, some of you have 4-5 stacked up! Get in contact with me if you wish to submit! I held a live online screening of my first feature film We Are Sasquatch on my YouTube channel. Over the next couple months, I'll be adding my other three existing features to my channel as well. I see this as an exciting reinvention of the movie screening for the modern age. All the better, people can attend from home in their pj's! I think throwing these films on a site like YouTube is a huge step for a radical reclaiming of film distribution for the artist. Keep your eyes out for a live screening of 31 Days in Marshall, North Carolina in the coming month!
Lastly! My next feature continues to be in production, slowly but surely! I've reached a major point with it that I'm super excited about! Hopefully sometime early next year it will be released!

Hey Patrons!
If you've been following along with the channel, you probably saw that I released a feature length edit of I'M GOING TO BE FAMOUS this week. I'M GOING TO BE FAMOUS was originally released as a webseries over the summer of 2018, it's my longest and grandest project to date. In order to introduce it to my ever growing audience on my main channel, I spent a week compiling the 5+ hour series into a 114 minute movie version for the channel! This was a massive headache, but worthwhile, as I hope this can be a turning point in channel where my features will release on YouTube moving forward.
Because of this, I changed the name of the channel name to just Joel Haver, as opposed to Joel Haver Shorts, in order to open up potential for variety moving forward!

Work on my next feature film continues! I've been doing about three shoots a week, which on top of all the shorts is nuts! I'm definitely more tired than usual, but I'm not overworking myself to the point of exhaustion, so that's good. I thrive if I'm busy and I'm definitely busy!
I estimate the project will continue shooting for at least two more months. Seeing it by the end of a year would be a rough, if generous, estimate!

Progress on my next feature film continues! Between that and the shorts, I've been working nonstop! Luckily, I'm somebody who loves being busy, so it's a good time if tiring!
I've been doing 3-5 shoots a week for the feature, it's making itself up as it goes and I think it's going to be something really special and different.

More to come on that, I'm usually pretty secretive with my bigger projects, but I'll try my best to be open about progress leading up to its eventual release.
As I lean heavily into working on the feature, I might not be quite as prolific with short films, but still expect at least one every week!

This is by far my most watched thing ever! In under a week, my channel went from 370 subscribers after six years, to over 1,000 subscribers! Hopefully this snowball keeps rolling!

Speaking of music, my musical collaboration projects have always been some of my favorites. Whether they be rap songs, music videos or soundtracks, it's always a blast, but beyond vocals and lyrics, I was never much help.
Well, I figured it was time to change that! I've been spending some time between shooting and editing teaching myself to produce music. Whether it be for soundtracks for my films or for standalone music projects, I always knew it'd be a great skill to have! After some tinkering, I produced three songs I'm very proud of and released my first EP, yet another thing about you. They're rough around the edges, but I'm no perfectionist and just wanted to get these first tracks out there and keep improving with future work! New film! New film!
Mason contacted me last Monday and said "are you free tomorrow to make something?" and I was so we made this! His friend Alex was also able to join us! This was a doozy to edit, took three days of finagling and trimming down over two hours of us improvising and cracking up. Enjoy!
Furthermore, I've been helping a Cody Clarke film his latest feature film Strummer. Cody is a filmmaker friend I made because he watched Island and loved it and we got to talking and found out we have very similar philosophies on filmmaking! It's been a wonderful budding friendship ever since!

Moving forward, if you or anybody makes a full length movie and sends it to me, I will watch it. I take no pride in the fact that I am one of the few people making feature films for no money and releasing them online for free. I would love for there to be a thriving community of online independent filmmakers to explore and watch. Consider this the first part of a larger call to action!

My assumption is that if you are on here, you have seen the film, and I am very grateful for that. For over two months the film existed only on here, and that has been an incredibly rewarding experience. One thing I detest about the festival/theater world is the complete disconnect between filmmaker and audience. There is no way to gauge an individual reaction to your film, it is doomed to become aggregated and averaged in a way that is no way indicative of how humans experience art as a spectrum. Releasing through Patreon offered me a grace period where I not only knew who was watching but I could have legitimate connections and conversations with those people.
In fact, the quote above was sent to me by Cody Clarke, a filmmaker friend I made through him watching Island this way. He also makes feature films for no money and releases them independently! I am currently helping him film his movie Strummer and have made two further friends in his girlfriend and the lead actress! This would've never happened if I had still been sitting on my film waiting to see if Sundance would give me the light of day.
Of course, this means the tier system on my Patreon has changed, as you can no longer donate to see Island. I am very excited about the changes however! Now for $5 you get to submit a character name that must be used in an upcoming film! And for $10 a line of dialogue that must be used! Both of these rewards are repeatable monthly! If you're already donating at either level, be sure to claim a tier!

Here is a brand new film hot of the presses made by my friend Benjamin Strate and I!
Benjamin Strate is a unique case because he is the only person where us meeting is documented on camera. As part of my thesis webseries I'm Going to Be Famous, Ben attended a focus group that I sat in on in disguise. The group was a mess and Ben was understandably upset, which I made up for later by writing him a personalized apology song.

Keith is one of the funniest people I know. I came to him without an idea and just knew I wanted to work together again. At a cafe we brainstormed character quirks, but beyond that went into this film pretty blind and improvised the whole darn thing!

Hello Patrons!
I always want to be experimenting with what's best for my patrons and myself! So here are some changes!
Starting today, short films will no longer release early through Patreon. The reason is, I just don't think it's a very good reward. All it really does is divide my audience between short releases, because at the end of the day you're still just watching a short film a week. It feels like a cheap cop out that just frustrates me because I want to get my content out the widest audience possible as fast as possible. The only exception will be if I want to spread out releases on YouTube and a short is done anyways so I'll put it on here first in such a case.
Don't worry! I have something better! Instead, I want to make an effort to make more permanent Patreon exclusive content. I want to produce some longer form content that'll live here. I have an idea for a sort of Podcast where a different friend and I will talk about film/art. As well as maybe some behind the scenes videos, director's cuts, deleted scenes, etc. I think with this mindset, I'll make my Patreon a more exciting and rich place rather than stifle myself with a lousy reward like I fear I have been.

Hey Patrons!
This weekend I am working nonstop! I have so many great projects in the works! Just met up with a friend today to put some finishing touches on a song, hopefully a music video for it will be filmed and released later this week. Tomorrow I'm filming a big short with one of my favorite actors. Sunday I've got a goofy short planned with some friends. And there's a whole different song with a whole different friend that hopefully will see progress in June!

As a nice bonus for those that have donated, I thought I would reveal a secret.
I am Ethan Price Reiley
Who is Ethan Price Reiley?
Ethan is a character I devised that allows for me to post content that doesn't quite fit on my other channels. Things that are too simple or abstract to be considered a short film, or too tonally different to fit in with my films. While working on Island, Ethan was my vacation, where I'd take a break to do something fun or stupid, without any consideration for an audience. Sometimes it's nice to be able to simply create without expectations, outside of one's own oeuvre.
Though the irony may be that by revealing this to you it becomes part of my oeuvre.
So be it!
Some of my favorite content on Ethan's channel is the song/video covers, where he not only sings karaoke to a song but also creates some sort of visual to compliment it. Linked above is arguably Ethan's masterpiece, where he plays both parts of A Star Is Born's climatic scene.
With my focus being put squarely on the Joel Haver channel for the time being, Ethan won't see many uploads, but he has a backlog to catch up on if you're craving his sort of thing. And a new one just released today!

Hello Patrons!
In January, I was on a road trip through Florida. On my way down, Martin and Natalia allowed me to sleep on their couch. On my way back up I attended a warehouse party they were throwing where I met Andres and Ezgi.
This past week, they all came to NYC and I returned the favor! For four days we watched movies, had pasta and held numerous dance parties. On their last day at my apartment, we made this movie!
My friend Valentin was also staying at the time, who also happens to be from Florida but is totally unrelated to the others!
I hope you enjoy, this one was a doozy to edit!
