Hoarder... Or Curator?

One person's trash is another's treasure... so they say. But they do say a lot of things. What do I think? I'll tell you.

Hoarder... Or Curator? Hoarder... Or Curator?

I Say Both, But we Need too Remember to Give to other When We Pass, So it don't go to the Trash when We Pass..

Yes, curated storage. I used to have a lot of electronic and photographic stuff built up over decades from the 60s. Mostly all gone now.

Oh my goodness, you must be talking about my queerfriend's mother! She's a cat lady and has a drawer full of power supplies and USB cables, and extension cords.

Even among non-specialist cat-lady-type hoarders, electronics hold sway. You find an abundance of interconnect cables, etc in the hoard - nothing that would build you a rocket, but things which you'd need if you got a new consumer appliance, such as a TV or sound system. It's not entirely insane: this stuff is expensive to buy anew, assuming you can.

Still in Philly? U-Haul your only choice?

J.H.C 5 times the original rent!😡 Sounds like getting someone to rent new and sub let to you for a commision is a decent idea. Sucks that you'd have to do that though. Maybe you could set up a shelf company (pun intended), rent it under the new persona, and then just move the stuff across the corridor. My two storage units cost me in the 6 digit range to buy, so I've traded off locked up capital for cash flow ongoing costs which is reasonably low (about AUD$4.5k / year for both spaces in Strata fees). If I rented the same size space nearby it would cost me at least AUD$25k/year (I'd basically have to use an office space as storage). I suspect they will never drop in value, so I think my capital is fairly safe, but you never know. But if you don't have that capital to begin with, you are screwed.
