Live Online Show - One week from today!

Hello Friends!

At last… our live show has been rescheduled! Safe from stomach bugs and home from family reunions, it is time to continue the Tuesday Night Owls tradition in the patron realm with a new name and a new picture, thanks to Casey and a beautiful sunset in RMNP!

Sharing Secrets on Instagram...

My Dear Friends, 

Day to day there are things that happen, funny, crazy, maybe even a little sad that I often wish I could share with y'all. Things that happen in a moment, little glimpses into my life that I don't feel safe sharing with the rest of social media. 

You guys are my community, and over the last three years, you've become my refuge as an artist. I've had days where I feel pretty unknown. Moments where a video went viral and a backlash of mean comments about my weight, or my forehead, or whatever low hanging fruit trolls nab, met me when I opened my phone. 

I'm not complaining, this is definitely part of the territory when you share what you love online! And I would say 98% of people are kind as can be. But what I didn't expect was how the few silly negative comments that do show up would effect my desire to connect with folks. 

You guys keep that desire alive. Having the chance to connect with you during online shows, over messages, in comments, helps me stay grounded in my purpose and feel safe. 

You guys create a supportive, encouraging, meaningful and loving culture... I need more of that in my daily life and less of the crazy folks... as fun as it is to be the 100th girl on instagram that some guy proposed to today :D 

This is my idea for connecting on a more regular basis, in a safe secret way (to continuing the tradition of the Secret Hollow:)

Some Big Exciting Changes Are Here!

Dear Friends!

Much like the studio, our Secret Hollow has undergone a forest makeover! 

I am so so so excited to introduce new perks to help us connect on a deeper and more frequent basis. I'll be doing a dedicated post for each one over the next couple days to explain how they work. In the meantime, feel free to take a look around the main page and shoot me any questions or thoughts :)

I'll be announcing the start of the second album on social media next week and inviting more folks to join us here on that new journey... of course this invitation can only start by telling everyone how the Secret Hollow began in the first place (click on the second pic for a reminder of how y'all have changed my life;).

I've also added an exciting new tier (more on that soon!) and given each existing tier a new name inspired by the upcoming album :)

Burrowing Owls are now Mushroom Spirits

Barn Owls are now Wise Old Owls

Great Horned Owls are now Willow Kings 

A note for Barn Owls! The new tier no longer offers one on one hangouts before a show, but don't worry! Everyone who signed up to be a Barn Owl prior to this date will still be notified when (Lord willing) the tour comes together, and we will still set up an in person hangout :) I'm so excited to meet you face to face over a coffee!

Blacksmith Update ⚔️

Diving into one of my favorite aspects of recording… the arrangement! This week I’m working on cross picking counter rhythms for the mandolin, and wanted to show you guys what that looks like 🙂

I also wanted to thank you for making studio time like this possible. A lot of experimentation goes into crafting a song, and I’m so grateful to have the time and space to do that ❤️

Studio Update!

Hello Friends!

It feels so good to be back home and in the studio. I spent an entire day testing mic positions and combinations on different instruments and I thought I’d take a video and give y’all an update.

There’s a lot of time consuming, not especially glamorous work that goes into recording, so please pardon my athletic shorts!… It was a toasty day.

Postponing Tonight’s Show

Dear Friends, I am so sorry to postpone tonight’s show. I’ve come down with a stomach bug 🐛

We have two family reunions back to back in the next couple weeks, so I’ll likely reschedule our show for mid August.

The Studio is Finished! 🌱🍄

Oh my word that was a lot of moss! But it was well worth it. I’m happy to report that this is the coziest and most inspiring the studio has ever felt 🙂

On a side note, I’m taking suggestions for fern names… I’m thinking good old English names might be most appropriate, any thoughts? 🤔

Howdy from Cotopaxi!

My Dear Friends!

I'm back at the beautiful Flynn Family Ranch for a little RnR/ writing retreat. This is one of my favorite places on the planet, so I wanted to take you on a little picture tour and send you an update!

This is where most of the Lady Moon album was recorded, and it seems like a fitting conclusion to come back here and start contemplating a new record :) 

I'll be here for the next week going through over 4,000 voice memos from the last few years. These memos are what I use to capture evolving song ideas. 

Case and I are getting a fair amount of hiking in, and I'm really enjoying setting up my writing station in the great outdoors with song birds and  stunning views for inspiration.  

A big part of my writing process is actually walking away from my instrument for a bit and working with my hands, thus activating my subconscious mind. My hands on project for this trip is building a fairy house out of willow branches for the wee cousins and nieces :) I'm pretty happy with the progress so far!

I miss you all, and I can't wait for our next Patron concert! The internet is a bit spotty up here, so we may have to wait till I return to Loveland.

In the meantime, I send you my love and these little snapshots from life in Cotopaxi :)

April Update! TNO Tomorrow!

Hello Friends!

I might as well fess... I've been trying to write this update/ announcement for over two weeks, and in the process of practicing for a very special album celebration show, only realized today that I never announced the date for said show! 

IT'S TOMORROW!

Please forgive my lateness. It's been a crazy month of delightful new things and learning all about taxes and the nitty gritty of running our small but mighty business. So, in preparation for our hangout tomorrow, here is a quick update!

1. Tomorrow is a special show celebrating the release of the Lady Moon album! I'll be playing 4 of the songs on IG and the other 5 here for the Patron Only Show... or the PJ party as I like to call it :)

2. I found my dream guitar in Nashville!!! I can't wait to play her for you all tomorrow! I am taking name suggestions....

3. There is a music video for No Medicine coming! An incredible Italian animator named Cosimo made a stunning video that will be premiering on May 4th! More on that soon.

4. We've had an incredible response to the album so far! Thank you all for sharing it with your friends and family, our streaming numbers are definitely higher than I anticipated and growing every day!

CDs Have Arrived!

Hello Owls!

We've received a wonderful delivery! 

After working through several printing issues with the manufacturer, the CDs have at last arrived and we're so pleased with how they turned out!

It's thrilling to see the visuals and the music come together and actually be able to hold what we've spent the last two years creating.

We're excited to mail off signed copies to Kickstarter folks in the coming weeks, and then they'll be available in our online store soon there after in April when the album is officially released to the world!

Vinyl and T-shirt updates coming soon, but in the meantime... just look at these cute little compact disks. Maybe it's been a while since I've handled a CD, but I'm totally charmed by how little they are :D

I won't lie, my hopes of making an energetic dive into the new year were lost in a sea of tissues, naps, questionable herbal remedies, and finally resignation to the reality that recovering from the flu would mean time for quiet reflection and writing, which ended up being the best way to begin 2023. 

In the quiet joy of strumming my guitar and listening as new songs began to stir, I had a flashback to the days before our Secret Hollow.

It was during the dark ages of record label life, when letting the mysterious creative process unfold was considered a waist of time and resources. Instead, writing sessions were booked in pokey little rooms with other song writers, where I was told what subjects were best to write about if I wanted to make a living as an artist.  

I realized I couldn't express myself honestly. It seemed like no one valued what I had to offer. I felt unknown, even by myself. I was scared to put my heart out there, because if I really wrote about what I loved and no one wanted to listen I would truly be alone. But the only way forward was to take a chance...

That was three years ago, and as I remembered this time, I was struck in a new way by how much your support has changed my life. 

Without you, I wouldn't have the time or freedom to create. I wouldn't have the same sense of purpose and excitement. I wouldn't be releasing my first album. I wouldn't be planning my first tour. 

But perhaps most importantly, if you didn't believe in me, I wouldn't be here in the quiet, writing with my whole heart. 

In this new year I have so many ideas for recording projects and ways we can connect more here in this Secret Hollow.... but before I dive into these things over the coming weeks I wanted to begin this year by saying, thank you.

Thank you for being here, for listening, for inspiring me, for supporting me, for encouraging me, for sharing things you love with me, for making it possible to continue creating... 

Thank you for changing my life.

Finished Album Artwork Sneak Peek!

I'm excited to say that the album artwork for the record is complete!

Casey took these photos and I'm so so happy with how he captured the mood of the record. 

If you click on the third image, you'll notice that Keith, the designer, made it into a full length poster that folds out with the lyrics on the back! I thought this was a fun and cunning design.
