Orryn’s Tradepost — Reward Preview

“Some doors open not with keys, but with memory — and Orryn has a way of remembering everyone.”

As the mists settle over Dunmire once more, our next Patreon release turns toward one of its most peculiar landmarks — Orryn’s Tradepost, a place where one never quite finds what they want, but always what they need.

This month’s rewards (within their respective tiers) will include:

  • A map of Orryn’s Tradepost, capturing its weathered charm and curious corners

  • A token and half-body portrait of Orryn, the ever-watchful trader who remembers more than he lets on

  • A piece of attached lore, expanding on his past and subtle ties to the wider mysteries of Dunmire

Below you’ll find early sketches and layout previews, offering a first glimpse into Orryn’s world — a place of quiet exchanges, unspoken debts, and memories that refuse to fade.

Thank you, as always, for your patience and continued support.
Each map and story brings us one step closer to unveiling the full tapestry of Veil of Avalon.

Exploring the Visual Language of Veil of Avalon

This month, I’ve been exploring and refining the art style that will define Veil of Avalon.
So far, I’ve experimented with three directions — Style A, B, and C — each teaching me something about form, color, and emotion.

The goal has always been a painterly realism that feels handcrafted and human, a balance between the emotional depth of Djamila Knopf’s storytelling aesthetic and the cinematic richness of Arcane’s painterly worldbuilding.

After several iterations, I’m currently testing Style C, which I feel best captures the vision — soft gradients, visible brushwork, and an organic flow that feels alive beneath the mist. It’s stylized, but still grounded; painterly, yet functional for map readability.

This is still very much a work in progress, but it’s exciting to see Avalon slowly taking visual shape. Every brushstroke brings it closer to becoming its own world — one that feels painted rather than produced.

Thank you for walking this path with me — more updates, textures, and painterly experiments will follow soon.

Devlog IV - The Shape of Resolve

“Even the light that falters still learns to burn.”

Progress this month has been slower than I’d hoped, though perhaps not without meaning. Health continues to dictate the pace, but the story – and the will behind it – hasn’t dimmed. If anything, the path has simply changed its shape.

In the wake of the recent Inkarnate controversy, I’ve begun the careful process of building my own art style and assets for Veil of Avalon. It’s been both daunting and liberating. Drawing again, creating each brushstroke by hand, reminds me why I started. The painterly realism that’s emerging feels right for the world: atmospheric, textured, and emotional. A little reminiscent of Arcane in tone and rendering. For the first time, I can control every aspect of the visual language, from composition to light to the quiet, human imperfections that make a piece feel alive. It’s slower work, yes, but infinitely more personal.

The team has remained steady and supportive, and I’m grateful for their patience as I find my rhythm again the medical fallout. They’ve helped hold the line where I couldn’t.

Emotionally, this period has tested me deeply. The Inkarnate situation struck harder than expected, not only as a creator, but as someone who values authenticity and craftsmanship. It has hardened my stance against AI in art, and reaffirmed my belief that the imperfect, human touch is where the soul of storytelling truly lies.

Looking ahead, my goals for October are simple but vital:

  • To produce a test scene showcasing the new asset style.

  • To be more transparent and active in sharing progress with all of you.

It’s a time of rebuilding, of slow renewal. Thank you for continuing to walk with me, through every uncertainty, every adjustment, and every quiet victory.

A Shift on the Horizon

Dear Veilbourne,

You may have seen the recent controversy surrounding Inkarnate and the possibility of AI art on their Marketplace. Inkarnate has since released a statement confirming that AI-generated art will not be allowed. This is a relief—but it doesn’t erase the ongoing concerns many of us have felt.

The past months have shown increasing inconsistencies in style, poor communication with the community, and a buggy app experience. Because of this, I have begun to create my own test assets. The goal is to explore whether I can build a coherent style of my own—one that guarantees:

  • a unique visual identity for The Veil of Avalon

  • artwork that is entirely free of AI

  • and full rights retained for all assets

If this proves successful, it will mean a more unique, authentic, and lasting direction for the project. Of course, this change may delay the timeline, but I believe it may also be the right step forward. While nothing is set in stone yet, the tendency to move away from Inkarnate is becoming clearer.

On a personal note

My health is improving, and with that comes the ability to rebuild the reliability and consistency that has been missing in recent months. To make up for delays, this month’s reward bundle will be larger, releasing on the 5th of October.

Gratitude

I want to thank everyone here for your patience, kindness, and support. It means so much to me to know that you continue to walk this path with me. Whatever direction the project ultimately takes, I will ensure that Veil of Avalon remains true to its vision: solemn, mythic, and free of compromise.

Patreon Restructure and Future Plans

Hello everyone,

First, thank you for your patience and kindness these past weeks — and for continuing to journey alongside me through Veil of Avalon. Your support means more than I can put into words.

Over the past month, I’ve been reassessing how to make this Patreon more sustainable for me while still delivering high-quality, exciting rewards. The goal is to streamline the structure so I can focus more time on creating Veil of Avalon while also leaving room to explore new ideas and content formats.

The New Tier Structure – starting this month

We will be moving from six tiers down to three, keeping things clear and manageable:

Tier 1 – The Mistbound ($3)
For those who want to support the project and get behind-the-scenes access.
✓ All updates, WIPs, and dev logs
✓ Supporter credit in future releases
✓ Special Discord role: Veilbound

Tier 2 – The Veilwalker ($5)
For GMs, lore-lovers, and map enthusiasts.
✓ Everything in The Mistbound
✓ Monthly map drop (city, region, or battlemap)
✓ One written companion piece per month — either short lore/prose or expanded map details
✓ Printable PDFs
✓ Patron polls for content direction

Tier 3 – Warden of the Veil ($15)
For those who want the deepest connection to the project.
✓ Everything in The Veilwalker
✓ Monthly bonus content (exclusive map variants, tokens, sketches, or lore fragments not available anywhere else)
✓ Special Discord role: Warden of the Veil
✓ Occasional input into lore & content direction

Future Plans

  • I’m learning Foundry VTT to integrate my maps directly for virtual tabletop play. Once I’ve mastered it, Foundry integration will be included at no extra cost for Tier 2 and Tier 3. There’s no set timeline yet, but it’s in the works.

  • I plan to return to streaming on Twitch, focusing mainly on my Inkarnate mapping process.

  • I will be reducing commissions to dedicate more time to Veil of Avalon.

  • I will be publishing content on a diverse set of online shops to sell select maps. Special Tier 3 variations will remain Patreon-exclusive and will never be sold elsewhere.

Retiring “The Last Echoes of Avalon”

The Last Echoes of Avalon tier will be retired at the end of this month. If you wish to join and claim its limited benefits — including the unique Discord role, the option to design an origin character, and a special mention in future publications — now is your last chance to do so.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me through this journey. Your belief in this project fuels every map drawn, every word written, and every idea refined. I’m excited for the months ahead — and I hope you are too.

A Moment Between Echoes – Personal Update & the Path Ahead

Dear Veilbound,

You may have noticed the silence—and for that, I owe you both an apology and a moment of honesty.

Over the past weeks, I’ve been facing some unexpected health issues that have required me to pause, reflect, and step back. Though not catastrophic, they’ve forced me to reevaluate how I’ve been carrying this project and this space—both in terms of time, energy, and the expectations I set for myself.

Veil of Avalon remains the heart of this Patreon, and it will continue to be my main focus until its full release. That hasn't changed—and won't. The story, the setting, and the sorrow-laced magic of this world still matter deeply to me. But in order to do it justice, and to remain sustainable as a creator, I need to make a few changes.

Restructuring the Path

Going forward, I will be simplifying and refining the structure of this Patreon. This means:

  • A reduction in the number of tiers, making choices easier and less fragmented

  • A clearer, more focused reward structure—something that respects both your support and my own limits

  • A format that will prioritize consistent content, even if it’s less frequent or ornate

This is not a retreat. It’s a realignment. A soft breath in the middle of a long, echoing journey.

To Those Who Stayed

To everyone who has continued to walk beside me, even through this quiet—thank you. Truly.

Your presence here is not something I take lightly. Whether you’ve read the devlogs, wandered my maps, or simply stayed to listen—I see you. You’ve helped give life to something I still believe in.

There is much more to come. A world still unfolding. Queens still grieving. Myths still waiting to be remembered. But we must build it at a pace that honors the people behind the words as much as the ones reading them.

Thank you again—for your patience, your grace, and your belief in this story.

The mists are parting again. Slowly. Carefully. I’m still here.

And I’m grateful you are too.

Veil of Avalon - Devlog III

Stitching the Path

„A story, like a wound, must be bound with care.”

It has been a month of threads and thorns – of unravelling, restitching, and discovering the right way through the mist. We have taken a long look at Act I: The Veilbourne Path, and reworked it from the ground up. The questline now breathes with better rhythm, richer details, and characters who act with deeper intention. The path feels firmer beneath your feet: fewer narrative gaps, stronger emotional throughlines, fewer moments that pulled against the tone we so carefully try to preserve.

Workflow-wise, the team is settling into a rhythm of regular meetings, shared laughter, and feedback-fuelled rewrites. Chapters I and II are being finalised for the first round of Beta Drafts, and we’re slowly shaping a book that feels both tangible and mythic.

Mechanics in Motion

On the rules side, we are deep in consultation – looking at what works, what resonates, and what may simply remain lore. Between emotional conditions, Echo mechanics, and Veil Resonance, there are many beautiful ideas – but not all will make it into the final draft. Some will be optional, others refined, and a few perhaps set aside, kept only in the hollow libraries of the world.

A Map Between Two Memories

This month’s encounter maps are drawn from the spaces between: the Cairn Fields and the Withering Woods. One a solemn stretch of windswept mounds and unspoken grief, the other cloaked in overgrowth and whispering branches. Both are in development, and one will become the base map reward for all Oathsworn Tiers and above.

Let us know – would you rather wander through the shaded hush of the forest, or step carefully between the stones where names have long been lost? A new Veilbeast – drawn from Welsh Folklore – will rise beside them.

Laughter in the Loom

As for the writing… well. After my excessive use of “not” was gently roasted last month, I have now been lovingly scolded for starting sentences with “And” or “But” (Stylistic emphasis, I insisted!). Alas, proper grammar demands her toll. Still – we tease each other, and take joy in the work. There is nothing solemn in our process, only in our tone, and that too is part of the magic.

We are slowly realising just how large a narrative we’re weaving. But we remain grateful. And steady.

Thank you as always, for being part of this. The Veil remembers those who walk it.

End of Month Update - May

The Veil shifted more slowly this month—but not without purpose.

Our core May rewards focused on one of the realm’s most haunting presences: The Dread of the Unnamed, a creature born of what Avalon chose to forget, now bound to the tower of Tyrn Valis. Its entry, encounter design, and expanded lore offer a glimpse into the sorrow-soaked architecture of fear within the world.

As a small thank-you for your patience, I’ve also included a bonus map—a detailed floorplan of Schloss Neuschwanstein (Servants' Floor). I hope it finds a home at your table or in your tales.

Download: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1d4rnoncjPxLMafQWQAJmNjXbBEKpVOdY?usp=drive_link

Behind the curtain, I completed a full rewrite of the Act I Questline, which now flows with greater clarity and narrative cohesion. It’s a path better shaped for emotion, memory, and myth.

Work continues steadily:
We’ve refined Chapter II of the Demo Campaign—exploring the fractured heart of Camelot and the burdens Queen Gwenhwyfar carries. Next month, the mists will part along the roads between realms, as we begin development of random travel encounters and emergent Veilborn moments.

Admittedly, the pace was a little slower than last month. Balancing life, commissions, and creative work remains a learning curve—but the team is committed, and the vision has never been clearer.

Thank you, truly, for walking this path with me. Your presence—quiet or vocal—helps make this world more real.

WIP Map Update – The Realm Expands

The map of the mortal realm has been expanded—allowing the world of Veil of Avalon more room to breathe.

What was once a narrow coastline has grown into a layered land of memory, myth, and movement. With this new space, we’ve placed the key locations of Act I: The Veilbourne Path—from the mist-wrapped village of Dunmire, to the broken observatory of Tyrn Valis, and the quiet dread that surrounds Caer Pendragon.

As always, the center remains uncertain.

The map is still in progress, but its bones are in place—and they remember.

More to come soon.

Veil of Avalon - Devlog 2

The mists never quite clear in Avalon. They shift, revealing more of what was meant to be seen – and little of what lies beyond. These past weeks, we’ve continued refining the emotional core of Veil of Avalon, bringing light to old myths, and giving shape to echoes that stir beneath.

Refining the Crowned and Bound

Much of last month’s focus has turned to Queen Gwenhwyfar. Her motivations, convictions, and the long thread of her life now feel more cohesive, more human, and more fractured. The decisions that shaped her reign have grown sharper – less the product of monarchical duty, and more the consequence of memory she cannot unsee.

Alongside this, the timeline of Avalon has been fully woven – threaded from the creation myth through to the twilight moment where Act I: The Veilbourne Path begins. Every sorrow has its seed, every silence its first breath.

Echoes, Forgotten Things, and a Hidden Dread

Though many of last month’s changes were foundational, some details remain deliberately withheld – for now. Tyrn Valis, a city already steeped in secrecy, has been altered through its relationship with a creature long left unspoken: The Dread of the Unnamed. Its full story, however, belongs to another whisper – and perhaps a reward to come.

Spells, Conditions, and a Lingering Question

We’ve begun crafting a series of emotion-based spells and emotional conditions – designed to reflect grief, memory, and forgotten truths. Whether they will remain in the final release is yet undecided, but they already echo the tone of the world.

As system-neutral design remains relatively smooth, Veil pulses and the act of forgetting are shaping up to be the most intricate mechanics to express meaningfully. We want their emotional gravity to be felt – not merely as effect, but as narrative turns.

A Chapter I Loved

If there’s one thing I’ve been most proud of, it’s Chapter III: Queens of Sorrow. Writing the lore of Nimue, Morgana, ------ and Gwenhwyfar – layering myth into memory – has reminded me why this project matters. These women are the echoing heart of Avalon, more than simple archetypes.

Alongside them, The Dread of the Unnamed has also taken form: a creature born of what Camelot chose to forget. It has evolved into one of the setting’s most distinctive horrors, both conceptually and narratively.

Art, Collaboration, and the Curse of ‘Not’

Art production is going smoothly, though we expect a brief pause this month. Thankfully, rewards are already prepared and will be released on time.

In the editing process, I’ve also learned I have a small curse: a tendency to overuse the word “not”. I’m trying to unlearn it – it’s harder than expected. There’s something fitting about that, though. Even in text, denial haunts the corners of this world.

What comes Next

Next, we’ll refine our subclasses and mechanics, deciding which to carry forward into the demo. This groundwork will shape the design of quests still to come. We’re also considering letting the community vote on which five subclasses will be featured in the demo release. If that speaks to you, keep your eyes on the mists – your voice may be the one that guides what takes form.

Thank you, as always, for following this path.
Through sorrow and stillness, you help shape something that remembers.

Whispered Words and Carved Grief — The Runes of Avalon

Dear Veilbourne,

In the quiet corners of this world, where memory sleeps beneath stone and sorrow lingers like mist, something ancient is beginning to stir:
The Rune System of The Veil of Avalon is now in development.

This evolving narrative system draws from the emotional architecture of Avalon itself — weaving together symbol, story, and silence. As of now, we have drafted:

  • 19 unique runes, each embodying a distinct emotional truth — from Guilt Endured to The Hollow Crown, from Hope Unspoken to The Wound Eternal

  • 16 evocative rune pairings, which combine into more complex expressions:
Grief as Fate, Love That Cannot Last, Truths That Harm As They Heal, and more

These runes are not spells.
They are emotional catalysts — fragments of memory, feeling, and myth waiting to be remembered.

What We’re Exploring

The Rune System is still in early development and under active consideration. If implemented, it will serve as a narrative-first feature, not a heavy mechanical subsystem. Current directions include:

Narrative Use

Runes may appear carved into ruins, etched into relics, or whispered in dreams — guiding the players, hinting at emotional truths, and serving as foreshadowing devices or symbolic keys.

Inscription Mechanics

When inscribed onto weapons, armor, heirlooms, or places, runes may awaken subtle effects:

  • A blade that remembers its wielder’s grief

  • A crown that cannot command unless its bearer speaks the truth

  • A locket that replays a moment of love, once per lifetime

These are not enhancements. They are burdens and blessings.

Puzzle Integration

We are also designing a set of rune-based puzzles and emotional trials. These are meant to be solved as a group, rewarding emotional engagement, symbolic thinking, and shared storytelling.

A System That Listens

This system is not final. It may be included in the campaign. It may remain optional. It may whisper from the margins and never ask to be heard.

But if we do offer it, it will do what all good systems in Avalon should do:

  • Deepen the emotional fabric of the story

  • Encourage players to feel, not just act

  • Make the world remember them

Thank you, as always, for walking with me through the mist — and for helping shape the breath and silence between each echo.

Until next,

Veil of Avalon - Devlog 1

Foundations in the Fog

The mists have begun to part, and beneath them, something remarkable is taking shape. Over the past weeks we’ve made real progress; The first draft of the main Questline for Act I: The Veilbourne Path is complete and being reviewed! This is the beginning of the player’s journey – a path winding through fading legends, fractured truths, and the quiet ache of something lost but not yet forgotten. With the structure now in place, the tone of the world is landing where it belongs: mythic, intimate, and just a little haunted.

Most of the worldbuilding framework is also complete. We’re now in the process of combing back through it all—tightening threads, refining voices, and making sure the emotional rhythm of the world feels consistent and alive. There’s a lot of stitching, but it’s the kind that feels like weaving, not patchwork.

Designing with Resonance

Lately, we’ve shifted focus toward subclass design – creating archetypes that don’t just represent power, but emotional resonance. These classes are about how your character carries memory, burden, and belief into their choices. We’re building mechanics that invite players to explore identity through the lens of myth.

We’ve also begun crafting a symbolic rune system for the setting – something that will show up in relics, page design, Veil phenomena, and more. It’s already started shaping how the world feels in unexpected, poetic ways.

Alongside that, our project roadmap for Act I is coming into focus. It’s grounding us as we move between lore development, visual work, and the next arc of content.

From Ideas to Image

On the creative side, we’ve brought some wonderful new collaborators into the fold – including experienced GMs and editors who are helping sharpen the emotional beats and deepen the clarity of our language.

We’ve also completed the design for Elaineth fer Tharan, a minor NPC in the first act – but one who carries quiet weight in the emotional fabric of the story. She’s the kind of character who lingers.

We’re also reworking how Gwenhwyfar and Morgana’s loyalists function in the narrative. Rather than falling into traditional antagonist roles, they’re being shaped into complicated, layered figures, defined more by grief and conviction that good or evil. This makes the world feel more honest – and more personal.

Looking Back (and Ahead)

It’s been a busy, meaningful stretch. Honestly, Veil of Avalon is starting to feel less like a setting and more like something living – built by a growing team of voices who truly care about what we’re creating together.

Thank you for being here. For believing in a world made of myth, memory, and soft sorrow. Your support means everything.

It is not the sword that makes a hero, but the wound they choose to carry.”

The Crown I Carried

“I did not want the crown.
They gave it to me not with ceremony, but with silence. It was cold – not of metal, but of memory. And I wore it like a breath in winter... slowly vanishing.
Every sorrow, every forgotten name, every smile that broke into weeping – I held them. Not as punishment. But as promise.
I bore it because no one else would. Not even her. Not even me.
Morgana wept and begged me to let go. Elaine died trying to carry what remained. And still, I stayed... not for pride, but for the belief that stillness could save us.
I listened too long. I held too tightly. And so, I broke – quietly, beautifully, like frost melting beneath the dawn.
And now... you stand where I vanished.
The Veil stirs again. It remembers me, even if the world does not.
But it does not call for me.
It calls for you.
So I ask: Will you carry it? Will you bear what I could not?
Or will you, too, be remembered only in silence?”

- Nimue, the Silver Queen

In the echoes of fading memory, Nimue speaks.

This month, I wanted to share a piece of her heart—a monologue that captures the weight she carried, and the silence that crowned her. It’s not just a fragment of lore. It’s a promise, a reckoning, and a question posed to all who wander the mists of Avalon.

In The Veil of Avalon, legends are not born from glory, but from sacrifice—subtle, sorrowful, and often forgotten. Nimue’s tale is the still thread that binds the fate of queens, rebels, and those who believed in something greater than themselves. Her voice lingers not as command, but as memory.

This monologue is one of many that breathe life into the myth. In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more glimpses into the characters, places, and creatures shaped by sorrow, magic, and memory. If you listen closely, you might hear the Veil stir.

Welcome to the story.
Thank you for being here.

The Mists Begin to Part

“They say the lake only sings when something is returning…”

As the first whispers of The Veil of Avalon echo across the water, here is your first glimpse at the world on the mortal side of the mist — a fading realm of watchful towers, broken oaths, and veiled borders.

This work-in-progress map charts the known edges of the Mortal Realm — where the campaign begins, and where the past begins to stir.

From the storm-worn coast of Dunmire to the spires of Caer Pendragon…
From ruined shrines in the wilds to secrets buried beneath the lake…
This is the surface of a world that has forgotten something vital — and now, cannot help but remember.

For now, let the fog settle. Let your eyes wander. Let the story wait.
