(Patreon FYI, the timelapse is only of the coloring step, because CLIP did not yet include this feature when I made the original sketch last year! Also present here is some older experiments I did, one in the simple shading style and one in the greyscale painting style)
Similar experiments to the last drawing I posted! This time just on a larger drawing. Trying out using Krita for the flat colors, then trying out a new shading method in Clip Studio :) Also testing of exporting the final files in Affinity Photo. Lots of time savers learned here, taking a lot of the tediousness out of the work I do. The last week of experimentation I’ve done has been super valuable! (which is good considering I didn’t stream much because of it :P )
Also, unrelated to this drawing but I spent time refreshing my posting templates and getting other things refreshed and updated. It’s march and I feel like I’m still getting caught up on being alive after such a horrible 2020 lol. But it’s going well so far ^^

Now that I’m streaming again I hope to make these every few weeks instead of years, but who knows XD At 20+ hours a page they take quite a bit of effort lol.
This page actually looks pretty similar to the last page, shows that despite the huge time gap I didn't draw all that much in that time span so I didn’t improve a ton. In fact this page looks a little less detailed overall, but I am still trying to figure out that happy balance between details and time for comic pages. They sure are a ton of work haha. Still planning on finishing this “short” 30 page comic and then evaluating if I want to continue making comics or not. I’m sure it will be quite apparent before then if I enjoy making them or not. This one was not very fun to make… but I’m still a noob when it comes to comics and I think it will get more enjoyable with more practice ^^

This was one of the drawings I referred to when I mentioned that I was learning how to color black fur XD I think it turned out quite well! Also getting more used to drawing canines! I was especially rusty with them after my hiatus, but that seems better now :)

Asha: “Don’t be sad, Khay! I’m happy because that means I get to spend more time with my favorite chee!” Khay: * Chirps! *
This is a continuation of a gift sketch a great friend of mine 0laffson made last year! ^^ I felt bad for my poor Khay and had to make a part 2 to that :P This originally was going to be a sketch too, but I liked the lineart too much, and had to finish it haha. Khay (cheetah) and Asha (melanistic serval) are both characters of mine from my comic’s original world! I draw Khay quite often, but hardly ever draw Asha XD They are both quite different characters with really different backstories. Both are owned by the same cheetah character (Lue’maar), and they have grown quite close over time. This drawing is set towards the beginning of their relationship ^^
Also more casual nudity :P Who needs clothes when you are at home haha. This is probably in Khay’s room off of Lue’maars room in the Cheetah palace. Lue’maar is the son of a ruler and a powerful noble, and Khay is his chief slave and holds quite a bit of wealth and power himself despite not being free. But I’m sure, if Khay was given the opportunity, he would leave it all just to live free with Asha! Maybe someday...
I feel like I have to occasionally explain it, but my original world has more realistic sizes for the different species. Servals are far smaller than cheetahs in real life, and likewise they are in my world as well :) Asha here is around 3.3ft tall, and Khay is around 5.3ft tall. Asha is also quite a bit older than Khay. Here Khay is around 24 and Asha around 30. But they don’t mind in the slightest XD

I have not really drawn Asha much because I have always been scared of drawing black fur XD It has always been really hard for me to get right, but this last month I drew 2 characters with black fur for commissions, and forced myself to learn haha. I think I understand it a lot better now, and really love how Asha looks here :D
I’m really glad I decided to color this in the end XD It was just going to be a finished sketch like the messenger cheetah I posted a while ago, but when I reached the shading stage I was too tempted to color it XD It took quite a lot of work, but it was with it this time haha. I wanted to go for a more airy and spring-feeling color theme with more soft and indirect lighting. Also I wanted to try out a finished drawing that still has the lineart, yet a painted far background. I love the look of it here! Will definitely keep doing that with my illustrations! Quite happy with this piece overall :D

Cheetah Messengers - The fastest way to have your scrolls, letters, and other correspondence delivered!
This was a fun concept to draw XD I wanted to draw a thin cheetah character, and after thinking about it a bit I thought having a messenger cheetah would be perfect! Even in my original world they are some of the fastest people out there, perfect for running things from place to place, especially with the lack of technology (or horses haha). This cheetah is an official government-paid messenger who brings official documents and letters from place to place in the Wolf Empire’s capital city ^^ He seems to enjoy his job, running around all day haha. It’s like he was designed for it :P
Some lore for my world: As you can see, he really isn’t wearing much XD (and depending on where you are viewing this image, possible nothing but his equipment!) I know I have discussed it before, but Be’vaal don’t have much shame when it comes to public nudity, it’s quite commonplace! (especially in the warmer areas, like where the Wolf Empire’s capital is located.) And while it’s indeed a lot more common for the lower classes and slaves to go about their work not wearing much at all, free workers like the messenger cheetah here sometimes don’t either. Mostly it depends on the type of job! But when running around on foot pretty much all day, clothes on this cat would just be unnecessary :P

This drawing is an experimental technique I have been working on ^^ I’ve really wanted to make more “finished sketches” lately (really just finished drawings with no color) since I think they are fun! But I wanted something more than just line art, since it that kinda feels lacking by itself. So after looking at other artists I like and how they do their sketches, I decided on some shading that focuses more on ambient occlusion and form rather than shadows and actual greyscale shading. So this is what I came up with :) It’s finished lineart, just like a fully finished drawing, but then I go over it with this quick shading technique and add detail to the forms! It’s very fast and quite enjoyable to make compared to tedious coloring!
I know I said that I plan on making more finished sketches this year, but you can definitely expect more of this style of drawing to come! I have quite a few started and in progress, and I will work on them in my free time ^^ They are such great practice and I really enjoy how they look! I hope others do as well :)

This drawing was forged from pure spite. Ok, at least it was at first XD I’ve been really frustrated about my lack of art this year. I know it isn’t really my fault, which helps me feel less guilty. But it is still terrible. This is the first drawing I have done in a while, since before I was sick and since I moved. I consider it a “warm up” of sorts. A reboot.
This last week or so I have done lots of refresher studies, read art books, made sketches, reviews of my art and techniques, etc. Getting back into the mindset of drawing. It’s not been very easy haha, but I think I’m finally ready to start making new art :)
Now that I’ve moved and settled, and my life isn’t really plagued by uncertainty anymore (which I feel really privileged for, since I know many aren’t in the same boat), I feel like I can get going again and get back on track. Start streaming on a schedule again, and hopefully be consistent in my productivity for the first time in years. The last several years have been... not so great for my family and it has honestly made it really hard for me to do creative work with all the anxiety. Now that I’ve moved I’m hoping that it’s a “reset” there too, and my stress and anxiety is relieved somewhat.
In addition to that, all this time off has really made me analyze what I value in making art; what techniques I enjoy, and what types of my art I like most. Things I don’t like, like making lineless paintings will be gotten rid of. (Only will do them if customer insists, and it will still be lines with them painted over.) I’ll be sticking to an inked lineart style for the foreseeable future. I’m also going to try to stick to the same color technique as well, so I don’t waste as much time as usual jumping around to other techniques. I hope that if I stick with one, that I will improve on it faster and also be more productive. :)
Hoping for a much better 2021 for all of us!

This drawing is more of a comic style, since it is “smaller” than my normal character art, which makes the lines thicker XD I don’t mind that, but for dedicated character art I do like the thinner lines a bit more! This is more of what you would see in a large comic panel.
Ti’maar is pretty adorable here too :P My good cheet ^^ Not often I make color art of just him! I originally wanted to draw him in armor, then I had an idea for a different clothing design XD
Honestly this just makes me want to work on my comic again XD Perhaps once I get some more commissions done…

This drawing is more of a comic style, since it is “smaller” than my normal character art, which makes the lines thicker XD I don’t mind that, but for dedicated character art I do like the thinner lines a bit more! This is more of what you would see in a large comic panel.
Ti’maar is pretty adorable here too :P My good cheet ^^ Not often I make color art of just him! I originally wanted to draw him in armor, then I had an idea for a different clothing design XD
Honestly this just makes me want to work on my comic again XD Perhaps once I get some more commissions done…

Commissioned character art for Wyvern of his ferret character named Todd Doddson ^^ 3rd and final character art commission I did for him a few months ago, just didn’t get around to posting it until now.
I’m not particularly used to drawing modern-day clothing, and especially not on really thin characters ^^ I like how he turned out though :) _____
I’ll be posting more stuff in the coming days, sorry for not being around that much. Right after recovering from being sick I had to move, and that required a lot of house renovations for weeks. I’m just now getting to the point where I can draw and stream more, and plan on doing as much as I can ^^

This was probably my favorite one out of the group to draw, but I’ll always love spotcats ^^ Drawing her was really fun, and getting back to streaming while drawing too! Was really interesting to work on 3 character drawings like this at the same time! Haven’t done that before haha, and it really pointed out which parts of the process I enjoy the most! (mostly the shading is my favorite step :P )
(As I posted the last one, and am scheduling this one (the 11th) I’m currently pretty sick with Covid. So it will take a while for me to get back to replying to comments and drawing more. Posted a journal about it here) _____________________

Welp, I have Covid. I started off feeling abnormally fatigued, sore, and tired before and during last weekend; and then started to have a fever on Monday this week. Most of the people in my immidiate family and a few people we know are sick; and we’ve had many positive Covid tests come back last few days. As of now I’ve had basically all the commonly reported symptoms, but overall I’m just really tired and symptoms aren’t too brutal. Most of my other family memebers are the same, some much sicker than others. Hoping eveyone gets through it alright :|
I’ll be isolating here, and trying to rest best I can ^^ Won’t be streaming for a while, too sick for that. It will certainly be an interesting next few days/weeks -_- I hope you all are doing well though :)
I still have 2 finished drawings to post here, im just a bit too tired to write up the descriptions and such on my PC. I will as soon as i can :) Thanks all! ^^

Had been quite a while since I’ve drawn color character art like this! I’m so happy with the final result ^^ Used the same color technique as my last drawing, and I think it’s a pretty effective way to color lineart drawings :) Makes it a lot easier to control the color temperature of the lighting and shadows specifically! Will continue to use it in future drawings ^^

Can’t believe it’s been months since I posted anything :| Have had a lot of personal mental struggles lately (I know I’m not alone there), but have been better after taking a long break/hiatus. Eager to get more things drawn, and hopefully not disappear again ^^ I started this drawing back in February actually, so I’m very happy to finally see it complete!
I’m also very happy with the end result on this drawing! I went with more subtle lighting for this, and I’m glad I did! I noticed my colors can get a bit too saturated and contrasty, so I have been moving towards a more “realistic” look (even if it’s even still quite saturated and not super realistic XD ). Looking forward to seeing how my colors develop and improve into the future :)
