Hey everyone!

We've been looking at the survey results with interest, there were a few unexpected stats! It makes us happy that you seem to be enjoying our work though. The survey will run for another week before we draw our final conclusions from it, so take your chance to fill it out if you haven't yet!

When it comes to polls/requests, there were a few answers in the survey which we'll be basing ourselves on for the short term. Details aren't settled yet and we'll wait on the end of the survey to announce further info on how we'll handle these. Know however that everyone is always welcome to post requests in the discord server's designated channel, or as a comment to these monthly update posts.

That said, we had a few stories planned and in various stages of progress for a while, including some story events. We realised there aren't that many events left untranslated, so we'd like to try to finish them all and stay on top.

Luckily, we just found a new translator! It's still to be seen how active they can be, but they're certain to be a help! They'll be in charge of the newest event. Unfortunately this must also lead into the less positive news of us all being very busy with "real life" stuff these days. We are in fact entirely missing two members currently, and have essentially worked at 50% power all month from that fact alone. They'll be back when they can be, and we'll continue with what we can as always, but things will remain slower for a while.

The token can be found in the previous post. If you already got it from there then you're good, no need to update it.

Hey everyone, the token has updated early this time and the current one will no longer work. The new one should hopefully last through november though! You can find the URL in the options, that's probably how it will be done for the time being.

UmaTL October

Umadachi, it is spooky month! We here at UmaTL are prepped to pop out from under desks with translations at the most inopportune times! The team has found some extra motivation lately, in large part thanks to your continued support. This has also caused a few shifts and improvements to the way we work and organize, meaning we'll be able to deliver translations more efficiently so expect to see a nice amount of content coming through. As part of this, we'll be taking up the currently ongoing halloween event and hope to have it ready soon, perhaps even before it ends!

We've got a whole lot lined up, as keen observers of post and progress might have noticed. Of course, that won't all be this month, but we are working on them. There might also be a few more surprises waiting. Improvements to the patch are also coming, including a small UI to help manage it more easily.

Finally, it seems discord invites always expire now so here's a new one. You can also join through a tier and get automatic roles.

UmaTL September update

Back to months flying by it seems. Hope rolls have treated you well and you're enjoying the new scenario. Personally I haven't managed to play it yet, so some of the translations might be on the wonky side. Apologies. I sort of completely forgot about anniv and that's affected the schedule a bit but it's not too bad, all in all. Ines will be wrapped up soon and you can look forward to a small surprise in a little while too. Tazuna will follow and then, maybe card stories?

Meanwhile, if there's anything in particular you'd like to see, don't be afraid to ask here or on discord. Speaking of discord, we have one now! It's been around for a while technically, I've not been entirely sure what to do with it and still aren't! Integrations only work with tiers so it doesn't even have that! But it does have an update bot and emotes so there's something! Anyway come join if you like, I guess.

UmaTL August update

Hello umadachi. I hope you liked UmaSpot! I know it's been a bit of a slow month otherwise, I'm sorry. I decided (a little too late) to shelf any code changes for the moment and focus on just getting some translations out. The changes will find their way in later! Valentine event should have the final chapter done tomorrow probably, and then be out after proofreading.

The poll wasn't very conclusive, but 3/4 of those are found in the mdb so that's where I'll start. Skill & error descriptions should find their way in quickly, followed probably by Tazuna as she says some potentially useful stuff. I'll be finishing Ines' story as it's close to done and with some time hopefully left over, start on card stories.

Introducing Uma Translation Spotlight

Hey everyone, I bring you something a little different this time. 

Translation is rarely an exact science and can pose a tricky challenge in bridging cultural gaps. This is not at all helped here by cygames' penchant for wordplays and finding the most diverse references. 

I am starting a small series on the side in which I will highlight specific instances where Japanese doesn't transfer so smoothly, niche references are made, or simply interesting tidbits, providing the additional detail required to understand them better along with comments on the translations where applicable. In doing so I hope to provide some additional value to the translations and appreciation of the game's intricacies, as well as introduce little bits of various cultures.

Given these appear occasionally, this won't be following a schedule. I'll also try to keep each post nice and short so they can be a quick read but this can vary with the subject. The first episode is out now, included in the translations-extra folder. I hope you find these interesting and do tell me if you have comments!

July update

Well that month felt like it went even faster.

I ended up stating a lot of the updates in the tl server but to summarize quickly: mdb updates go pretty fast now, a bunch of smaller things were fixed or tweaked, and a lot of prep work is ongoing on the technical side of things to keep stuff running smoothly into the foreseeable future. Oh yes, Hat on your head! has a translation now, you can find it in the translations-extra folder where I'll also be adding other extra/non-game translations and content when available. I don't want to cause too many update notifs here so I think I'll stick mostly to the tl discord atm for those. Perhaps it is time to set up a server for this project though?

This month then, well I actually took on some bigger-than-expected organizational work on the patch in addition to having to deal with some real-life issues. But I do intent to have the valentine event done by august! Normal skill descriptions should be done too. Not only are the large amount of missing ones back, errors have been fixed, missing parts were added, and terms and formats have been standardized.

I think I'll have a poll up in a week or two for what to work on after that. It'll likely be a choice of currently ongoing work to focus on (there's a decent amount...), but feel free to reply to it with things you'd like to see once it's up. Any other comments can always be left here too!

June update

It's strange to think a whole month has passed already but here we are. How have things gone to you? Feel free to share your comments with me here or in DM! It's still an experiment I'm trying to balance.

I haven't gotten as much done as would have liked as I've been rather busy but UmaTL did keep up with game updates and some internal tools were updated, which should help a few things going forwards. And I got some of the management issues out of the way, so that's always nice. Work on story translations is also still going on. There are quite a few to work on and I'm approaching it a little differently from before to improve consistency and quality. I also still don't have the greatest amount of time for them so it may take a bit, but they will be coming!

Outside of the patch itself I also got the translations integrated in the race sim, and set up umacruise translations to auto-update weekly (which hopefully works correctly...).

I'll still be working on polishing up some of these things and making the work itself easier to do. Then I'd like to work on a few patch QOL things, particularly to figure something out for the "mobile" mdb patching that works as a site atm. If you use and patch mobile, would you like it to remain a site? Or are you ok with using a pc tool or perhaps a mobile app? I'm thinking of starting polls this month as well but it may have to wait until next month based on how far I get.

May update

If all goes well I'll be posting this once a month to inform everyone of updates and news, if there are any.

I'll also be posting the supporter's access here. As I mentioned before, there may not be much to start with and I'm not entirely sure how exactly to approach it yet but I'll likely be spending much of the time I can spend on the patch here for now.

To access the Supporters Edition:

First time setup:
1) Make sure you're on the latest version of the patch by using update.bat (check there are no errors) or downloading from github.
2) Make sure you use mingit. You can safely run install.bat again to get it.

Afterwards, download the token.txt file and save it in the patch's folder with that same name (top level, where the README and .bat files are). All updates (update.bat, and auto-update run by mdb.bat and run.bat) should then switch to Supporters Edition.

UmaTL Supporters Edition

Hello everyone!
Thank you for supporting the continuation of the project and the work that has gone into it. It's thanks to you that I am still here, and I want to try to give you something to look forward to.

I have therefore opened a separate branch that is accessible only to you, and where I will be putting most new work (videos and the like will also be posted here on Patreon). I apologize if there isn't much immediately, but you will be able to enjoy any that is, on top of the community's contributions which remain available to everyone. A little down the line I will also be holding suggestion rounds and polls for new content to focus on.

This project will always be a community one at its core, and it, along with some parts of new content will remain available to that community. This new step is a gamble, an experiment, certainly, and some details might change as needed. But I hope to be able to provide you with an improved experience and continue to take the patch further for many to enjoy. And If you have any questions or comments, feel free to put them forth.

How this will be accomplished should be pretty simple. Every month I will be posting a small text file here that you can drop into the uma-tl folder to provide access to the Supporters Edition for a month. Yes, that's it. The first post should be around May 1st. See you there!
