10/18/19: Solving Issues!
Finally got somewhere with Minmax's side.
I learned quite a bit too while I was fixing another artist's messy files.


So this is pretty important. I solved the depth of field issue with the models that also caused them to stay in front of any transparency at all.
I just moved the post process "Blendable Location" to "Before Transparency" and it now follows the rules of being behind transparent objects!
I'm hoping this will solve my VR problem of the shader flat out not showing up in the recorded versions. Anime shader in VR would solve so much visual trouble for me!
2 days of my week were dedicated to fixing flying chocolates.
The best thing to do when it comes to messy parenting and bringing it to UE4 is to just set everything on frame 0 to before any parenting occurs. The object should be at the origin of the scene. THEN export after using keyframes to turn off and on the parenting on frame 1.
UE4 settings need to be set where frame zero is the reference point.
Once it's in. You're good to go. Any screwed up parenting with baked animation later will rely on UE4's reference point now and CAN'T mess up!
Finally. A puzzle that works for me rather than screwing my brains out!

*She then buttcrushes an entire block which should have some improv'd sfx and then a growth thing afterwards that follows all the other fun she's having.
Giggling THROUGH the transition it cuts from her sitting to jumping from city part to city part in a path of destruction.
The giggles getting steadily more evil.
*In a bit, Natsuki wakes up in the destruction she's caused to see a mega Yuri.
Natsuki: Huh? No... not like this.
Yuri: Hm, hm, hmmm!
Natsuki: (Clicks Dictaphone in a hurry) I wish we were back at school and-!
*Yuri crushes the entire city, but because the Dictaphone was destroyed things reset to before that and Natsuki gets saved by her last wish. Although it wasn't perfect as Yuri is still in the middle of stomping at the size of what she was just before the city and Natsuki is back in Yuri's hand like in the neighborhood. This confusion causes Yuri to suddenly lose her balance and Natsuki to go flying from her hand as well as the loss of the Dictaphone.
Yuri: HAH! Whuh? Huh? Woah!? Ahn!
Natsuki: Ahhhhhh! (But very quiet from our distance)
Oomph! (As she collides with Yuri's knee)

Reminder to self to try and use Alembic to import physics into UE4. Because it's a cinematic, you don't need bones for LIVE physics. The recorded Alembic would work perfect AND use Blender's physics cache. Thus skipping a BUNCH of the problems you're dealing with.
And for Early Access, I'm currently rendering out both my side and Minmax's and will be working soon on the merge and end scenes. Which should go really quick since Minmax already finished them! I just gotta get them into UE4.

You know, this physics option ain't it, chief. I gotta figure out something else with collision or something. I'm doing lots of manual animation and fixes for parts of clothing almost every other frame, so I need to rethink myself on physics again after this project is Done.

The skirt physics were mean as hell, but I fixed them. Found out that extruding two bones at the same time can cause one of them to be rotated way wrong. Which caused my skirt setup to act erratically.

Wasn't home for awhile there. Now to finish off what I wanted to today and post about the physics technique I went with for the skirts.
Edit: Looking at the physics... I'll have to take screenshots while I work on Sayori and Monika. This does NOT look easy when first looking at it.

Skirt physics this time will be trying out changing the bones to only about 4 controlling the skirt. But the weight painting is changed to have more of an effect across the 4 bones.
This will make the cloth mesh wires be SO much more easier to control than messing with a shitload of bones.
Better yet, if this works, then I can apply 1 bone for an entire section of a jacket or something for physics.
Hair physics... will require something else for collision. Since the skirt will have 4 bones and barely touch the ground, I can simply turn off the physics wherever I need to for a moment.
(Future reference for tutorial) For buildings, I just used multiple shape keys.
For the ground cracking that I actually want to do a tutorial for:
. City road has a shape key that sinks down during step
. There's a dirt landscape/plane underneath the road where it under
. The cracking itself involves a plane that moves through the ground upwards with blocking volumes. Directly underneath the shoe, those cracks go nowhere. AROUND the show is what goes up.
. For a bit of polish, add some static rocks going up around the shoe, some smoke, and particle fx
Currently, the cracking ground is one HUGE cube spread around the road. Probably should use smaller cubes or custom shapes for much better destruction shapes.

Edit: Final scene had Natsuki wish to be back at the school before she made Yuri's personality changes. The screen is supposed to flash white and then they're back, but I'm lazy.
This is the final full wip snippet for my part of DDLC. It's now on to polishing it all up and doing complete Early Access versions.

9/30/19: Natsuki city rough draft done
I can't believe I did this today in one go. I was about to end it halfway from animating too much but I stuck it through. Now to put this in UE4 and then go back to polish up everything.

Fade to Natsuki already being a bit huge in the daydream.


She enjoys all the power of being huger every other moment.

So this area is gonna be getting destroyed twice in the same video. Nice.


Right after Natsuki wishes to keep things going, her brain strikes her with an underhanded tactic.

The bigger she is, the more people can see her underwear. (OH NO!)

Just love it when the brain hits you with nonsense in a dream.


Natsuki notices that her wish just before has started taking effect.




Full on panic mode! I left in the keyframes because it looks pretty bonkers that I did that all in one day.

The final moment as she shakes herself out of her daydream. In which then she decides to work the magic on Yuri instead!

After dealing with a bunch of irl stuff recently this weekend, I've thought about this a bit.
So Sizecon is coming up in February and I thought it'd be best to bring it up with you guys on if I should go.
There's a bunch of people to meet and greet, but it'd be a bit expensive to go from California to New York and definitely stay throughout the weekend. (Although I'm very careful with saving up money. I do love New York too)
The big question is if it'd be super worth going?
I mean, it's a rare thing that is always unsure if there will be another in the next year.

9/11/19: The City Scourge... it's 9/11... Probably a bad time to post this.
Anyways! I put this together as a template to follow for my future self.
Just so he can ruin the entire plan by maker her bigger than expected. The bastard.
Ok, after felling the building with the billboard knife, (that's currently to the right of her hip) she steps BACK so it falls, then climbs over to do the ROAR thing on the other side that will blow away traffic and stuff.
All the while getting insanely huge from Natsuki's perspective
Then have Yuri roll over for this shot. Crushing stuff under her butt of course.

In which she grows right through the building her foot was pressed on.
Directly after, we cut to her skipping over the city getting larger with each step

That last step could probably be like a light walk out rather than a full skip. Natsuki is shown again after the cut to seeing this above

Anyways, she crushes it
at THIS point right after she crushes it and there's a huge boom with cracks and destruction everywhere, there's a white flash
then it's back at the school to finish off the video. Once this is finished, it's gonna be easy to do Natsuki's version. Which will just be standing into sitting growth. Now how the hell am I gonna do all this destruction? I should at least study some older video games like Twisted Metal to see how they went about it. Also study Battlefield 4.

9/9/20: Many Failed Destructions
Well destroying a building is not bloody easy. I've been trying a bunch of different ways, but it's best to wait for UE4's Chaos destruction.
The current plan is to go half-in-half.
Animate the buildings tipping over and all that, then cut out the areas I want to add destruction to. Then rebuild those areas for destruction.
Won't look the best with skyscrapes but worth a shot. At least the map is based on MMD, which has a lower quality threshold to me for experimentation.
After a long time of figuring this out, it was time to get the characters into position. I mostly posed Yuri here in this WiP shot of the first shot in the city.

Man, uploading to multiple sites takes forever. One change is at the end being that there's no full list of Patron credits. It's just there's a LOT to keep track of and it can take awhile to do. Which is a heavy load on top of everything else i'm already doing.
I still do have the original $30 patrons hidden in the video from then.
I think next time I'll make a list of who's hidden and have that in the end credits. That could be a good middle-ground.

Can range from twisted school girl playfulness (skipping across and destroying houses as her foot lands on them) to... well, destroying stuff in a massive combo.
Should I include a combo meter? That sounds kinda funny...

Things learned during this.
Camera shake in UE4.
Lighting characters using different channels rather than a spotlight right in their face.
Further lighting changes to be more stylized than realistic. (Pinkish hue to sky)
Also learned stepped animation and proper camerawork with that.
It's been an interesting 2 weeks.
Oh! Sorry about not much facial animation. A lot will need to be planned for voices, so it's best to not be too hasty when things don't match up. Requiring quite a few changes.

8/9/19: Nyuri's Debut
Ok! The scenes that were completely unfinished before now have their rough animation all layed out!

I had to animate that tree getting all pushed up on by Yuri. Each branch. At least it came out looking fantastic and that's all that matters!


So this next phase is first person growth shots. It's such a cool thing to add! Since I nailed how the stutter works, finally, we also get that in this shot and it's so juicy with how it came out! Don't worry, this will be backed up with a 3rd person shot near Nyatsuki's pov.

Nyatsuki is checking Nyuri's size.

So this shot turned out fantastic! I replaced all the trees with ones similar to the ones at the school. I also planted bushes on the low quality green bush block things to hide that.
I also put some windows down for the low quality windows of the buildings. Something tells me I need to learn more texturing to truly upgrade this shot from low quality mmd textures.

Now this shot is ok, but I feel we lose the same sense of surprise as Nyuri when Nyatsuki yells,"STOP!" I gotta figure out a new camera placement for this part.

Nyuri: We could get sued for crushing their car!
Nyatsuki: Hm....

I wanted to make sure the screen shaked here too to really emphasize the power of her voice!

Now here is where phase 2 of Nyuri will begin once I animate past this.
Nyatsuki plans world domination and Nyuri getting stopped by something simple isn't gonna work. So her next steps?
Make Nyuri far bigger and unplug that limiter that's stopping her from enjoying this.

8/5/19: Last Week
Ok, I know there was no snippet last week, but it was because I was practicing the art style and learning all the intricate process involved.
So here's some pics of the small progress so far.

Have a small animation of Nyatsuki shaking her head after a large scene of her outgrowing a city. Since that scene is separate and huge, I'll do that later.

With a plan in mind on who should be giant, she puts you on her shoulder for a nice ride to watch.








So this whole scene is at least planned out, but it's nowhere near done enough to look good in a snippet. Not even any camerawork yet. I've just been moving the camera to take these pics. But at least it kinda looks good. Damn that ground is bright. This section will look far better by the end of this week.

7/29/19: The Natsuki Part
People have kept telling me to add more story to my videos. So I wanted to have some build up for DDLC before we got to the true action. But that doesn't mean that it should be boring just to inject story into a video!

So as Natsuki grabs the Dictaphone, my mind is like, "Do a trick" so she spins the thing on her finger before catching it. I could've just cut to it already facing forward, but noooooo.

When it comes to using the device, I actually have shape keys of each button working. Completely pointless since we won't be using half the buttons, but it was a fun side-test. Hell, maybe somebody else can use the device after i'm done with it.

Natsuki gets her first test wish to make her a cat girl.

I was thinking a green flashing light was a good way to show that the wish worked. It's supposed to be sparkly and stuff, but I did the ominous Hal3000 look to it.

Natsuki has a nice moment to check out her ears. Coincidentally, depending on how I word her wish, Yuri gets cat ears in the background too.



Ok, I wanted to also briefly show how acrobatic Natsuki has become with the catgirl wish by having her jumpscared as if a cucumber snuck up on her.
But it's just the MC guy. And boy you don't want to see his animation in 3rd person as he swiggity swooshes his way to Natsuki.
Anways, he's already seen the device and asks Natsuki about, but she tries to hide it.

Trying to be all innocent and that. She thinks herself the decision on if she should let the MC in on the device's powers.

Some quick thinking and she realizes that she needs to hide the MC without evidence. So she shrinks him to 1 inch tall. Perfect for... hiding in places.



Eh, you can see the shadows i'm trying to fix all the time here.


Ok, so this part is gonna be super familiar. After the MC is done shrinking, Natsuki does the whole body rub thing in the same way Samus does, but with her shoe.
Shortly afterwards, she wonders what it's like to be bigger herself.


It's a little bit, so I might make it more intense just for this part, then reset sizes immediately afterwards to what was initially intended. Actually, none of this was intended, but whatever!

7/19/19: Set Ups
Ok, so next week will be incredibly strong for DDLC. Right now, this picture is a pretty good summary of what's there. Literally nothing past this point and Yuri isn't even in yet. (she's getting cat ears too) So with a little more time, the first snippet and juicy info pack will be... juicy, I guess. Another thing to notice is that I fixed my depth of blur! Apparently, I need post process to be set on medium rather than low. But the setting didn't want to change in Neko vid. I wonder why?
Edit: Another thing is that some stuff doesn't like to be blurred and wants to stay on top! (Like Ryuko in the background completely unblurred) I have zero ideas why! Yay!


Then we have Marin. She's going to be in the environment building stage for awhile as I do some MASSIVE landscapes for her. She will be going Mega after all.
One thing i'm really thinking about is using CityEngine for both of these videos. Gotta learn it first!
In any case, a lot of this week was finding the right assets and applying cat ears.

I'm at a point where Bowsette will definitely be done this week and DDLC next month if destruction goes as well as I think it will. (After having hell with it, naturally)
Then I'm taking the Marin video in the stepped animation direction for the first time. So i'm super excited for all these things!

Stepped animation is just not easy to implement in 3d space.
I've been trying a slew of different ideas and haven't really gotten one to stick.
Maybe I should follow a tutorial exactly to the point?

Destruction is not about making big crunchy objects. Turns out it's all about making the bricks by bricks and all the small details. I thought too big and that's why I failed.

Destruction is definitely looking plausible. I gotta spend a ton of today writing down the process of what works. Next objective is to try and copy the buildings and place the destructive stuff inside. Then when the building hits, cut out parts of the mmd model as if it got hit. Hopefully it looks great rather than having to completely learn building stuff myself.

The destruction in Blender is ok, but it's clearly too performance heavy. I've gotta figure this out in UE4 and get it right. I know character physics for animation are damn well gonna be in Blender, so maybe destruction is damn well gonna be in UE4.
Jesus, these destruction-based requests for Yuri are nuts! I need to learn destruction now or I'll never be able to appease this!

So it seems that other creators have the same shadow flicker problem from direct sunlight. They solved it by faking the sunlight hitting their character, but it's actually a personal area light that only hits that character!

Found out almost the reason for Shadow flicker. It's the directional light. has to do with something there.

So the past few months, my house has actually been without working water in multiple rooms. House flooded, water pipes broke except for 1 bathroom, hot water heater broke, so gotta shower at others' places, electricity re-wiring, and a bunch of house bullshit from the 60's breaking down.
Because of you guys, I can help pitch in with my family to get everything back to functioning!
I've actually been saving up a lot in case for these emergencies. There's currently a lot of holes in the house, but it's functioning again with water as of today.
Now enough about that, let's get to real updates.
. Bowsette sound is done, but I gotta make a lot of changes to the animation for the lips to match. I'm also curious to experiment with the style to make it look better. (Anime Shader showing promise yet again)
. I'm moving over to Blender 2.8 now that CATS grandfathered in MMD_Tools and actually works even better than it did in 2.79.
. The new format called GLTF that's meant for static meshes to keep their materials in check from one program to another is actually insanely useful for model material importing as well. This could save an hour of re-applying textures to everything in UE4 due to fbx not storing those files. Especially this next thing!
. I'm learning CityEngine. Everyone tells me that I should just build a whole city myself, but that's a really bad idea when there's tools like this out there that can do in minutes what would take months.

I currently have unnassigned textures and am trying to figure that out, but this is a part of Venice created from Google Maps. One of the presets in CityEngine exported to UE4. (You can custom make a city too)Once fully textured, my mega gts videos are gonna be insane! This is an incredibly powerful tool for massive shots! Better yet, I can export parts of the city wherever I select at a time. Which means animating chunks of a city however I want!
I plan to use this for Marin's video because she's gonna go mega in it.
. Speaking of destruction, Unreal Engine is getting ready to bring out their new Chaos Destruction tool set in UE4 4.23. It's currently in preview mode, but what they've shown has incredible control over the destruction. Something the previous iteration lacks and is why I tried destruction in Blender. Really hoping to try it out!
. In even more other news, kitbash3d.com is holding a competition involving a free minikit with cyberpunk buildings. Top 7 get any 1 kit they want from the site for free while 1st place can get 3 free ones. Each city kit can be $200 so this is worth entering.

. In inspirational news, I have a newfound hunt! Blue Protocol uses Unreal Engine 4 and it looks absolutely stunning! I'm gonna be hunting for this art style soon enough! Oh boy! Lots to do and be inspired from!

11 hour stream to get this done!
This clearly needs this last week to finish. But what I have right now is showing everything i'm trying to show without obvious things in the way!
So I thought that now was a perfect time to release the early access so that I can get everything done during this week. Sorry this is all taking so long. This video just keeps on punching with different things to fix.
Worst one being the camera bug from the old version of UE4 it started on.
Any post process changes at all on it and save?
You lose that data... because you saved. Horrific bug and it sucks that I'll have to do post process/blur as the very last thing as it will be deleted when I close the project. They fixed that bug in the most recent version for project startup.
