I have just opened my shop for samples on my Patreon 👈🏻LINK
It has for now three of my sample packs:
DNB breaks by Fanu (drumloops)
Hip hop breaks by FatGyver (drumloops)
Sample pack by Fanu (breaks, basses, pads)
You can buy any of them separately, but there is also the Super Saver Pack that has them all in one, for a discounted price.
I will do more packs later on!
⚠️NOTE: PRICE WILL BE LOWER IF YOU BUY USING COMPUTER BROWSER ⚠️
(Product prices in the iOS app are higher to cover Apple's App Store fees. which is quite a lot. This is added by Patreon by default.)
You are free to use any of the samples in your own productions, and you don't have to necessarily credit me for anything. But if you make something using my samples, I'd love to hear it! <3
If for any reason you want to buy those outside Patreon, that can be done: just DM me.
Buying samples is a great way to support a content creator. Thanks for everybody for the ongoing support!

Here we are with the second episode of Breakbeat Of The Month.
"Shack Up" by Banbarra is the name of the game: a very versatile breakbeat that can be used for downtempo, DNB, hip hop (as shown in the examples on the video).
LOL, embarrassingly, in the beginning of the video, I say "Banbarra by Shackup", but obviously it should be ""Shackup by Banbarra".
Hope you like it!

I've just created the first-ever collection: Song walkthrough videos!
There's now nine of those videos.
In those, I document songs of mine that have been released, going through sample choices, some mixing, arrangements, and everything that’s relevant.
Enjoy watching, and thanks to everybody for the ongoing support.
Plugin giveaway announcement this week, and new exclusive video not that far away 😎👍🏻 (both for paying members only)

A walkthru of Source Direct: “Stars” (Fanu remix) that recently came out on Odysee Recordings (vinyl is still available in some stores such as HHV).
Talking about my sample choices, song aesthetics, arrangement, showing some of the processing etc.
Sorry it took a while – I know I promised this a while ago. What happened with this one was that audio and video ended up WAY out of sync (long story, technical FPS issues or something between different capture sources), and it was a painful job to manually somewhat fix it all thru the video...took wayyy longer than planning and doing the video...but here it is!
I rarely do Youtube anymore, but I'm trying to grow my audience and also promised the label to promote the release a bit, so wanted to go Youtube for this one.
EXCLUSIVE CONTENT WILL CONTINUE. I'm not planning on going all Youtube, so don't you worry.
Got some mixing tips lined up, Breakbeat Of The Month for May, got at least 1 plugin giveaway coming very soon, etc etc…thanks for being me on this ride!

I'm starting a new video series on my Patreon called Breakbeat Of The Month.
In each episode, I will pick a breakbeat and chop it up and make a jungle beat with it. I have been making jungle and DNB for 25+ years and I want to teach you all too.
This first episode, I'm picking the very classic Amen Brother break. I know, I know, we've all heard a million times, but I'm not sure I've ever chopped it publicly, and hey, if I didn't start with the king of the breaks, I'd be doing it wrong.
I will always go to the raw source and chop, program and process that (as opposed to an already processed/edited version). This “DIY” culture is important to me.
Aiming to do these at least once a month. Will provide you with downloads, too (original break and sometimes the resulting one). For this episode, you will get the original drumbreak, my Drum Rack that I'm using, and the midi clip.
DOWNLOADS:
In this folder, you will find:
• the Amen I used here (it's sampled from my 7")
• the Drum Rack I'm using (Ableton Live 12)
• the midi clip from that project

I'm showing you how I am treating a vocal in a song. This chain here is quite common in all vocal work I do, and I mix vocals for clients weekly, almost daily. I do use different plugins sometimes, but the type of tools doesn't vary that much. Also the order of processing is usually the one seen on this video.
My biggest vocal mix this year so far is “Shiver” by John Summit.
This will help you improve the tone of vocals. I’m addressing the usual problematic ranges and using some really good plugins and even give you a free plugin tip.
Any Qs? Hit me up!
💡I think I want to start a new series via Patreon called “breakbeat of the month” where I chop, re-arrange and process a breakbeat and also give out the resulting sample in the end to all subscribers. Any takers?
Source Direct “Stars” remix walkthrough video coming in April. Wanna give out some samples to paid members soon too!
A recent change for producer tier 2:
I don't offer one-to-one Zoom sessions thru Patreon, but I do 1) still offer personal feedback in both writing and video format and 2) I do still do one-to-one sessions: just contact me directly at fanusamurai@gmail.com and I can arrange those.
I may introduce a higher tier that offers this in the future. I am doing because I am raising my rates a bit because my demand has simply exploded, and after doing some market research, I've noticed that that producer tier 2 rate isn't necessarily enough for an hour of one-to-one via Zoom anymore (and I can't update the rate).
BTW I know I still haven't done the Collections like I've been meaning to; will take quite a bit of work as there's content for 4 years…gosh darn I've been doing this for 4 years now (in May exactly). HOWEVER, do note that posts have tags, and I think I've tagged most posts since 2000, so when you click on a tag, Patreon will list all posts of mine under that tag for you. For example, this video will be under "mixing" and "video" tags, and if you click on those, you will see all my mixing-related content.

Howdy folks!
A little update about everything that's been happening and will be happening...there's been a lot, and even I struggle to keep up sometimes, heh.
Believe it or not, the sun has been appearing here in the land of Fin, which is remarkable...hope you have been getting some too! ☀️

• (above) I had a song "Piscean" out on Laurent Garnier's COD3 QR Ccompilation which is as varied as it gets. It is available as a vinyl record and it's on digi services too (see the link).

• (above) I had an EP called "Balcony Acid" out on HeadzState which is Metalheadz' sister label, so it's all curated by Goldie. It's all 120-130 BPM...I like the slower tempo these days. Digital release on all arenas (see the title link).
I have actually made a walkthru video of the song "86 North" earlier at some point – video here!

• I had the pleasure of remixing Source Direct and their old tune "Stars". Vinyl is sold out on Odysee Records Bandcamp where you can snag the digital, but is still available on several stores such as HHV (link).
In April, there will be a walkthru video of this on Patreon, so wait for that! 😋
I will show you the samples I got, my reasoning for doing what I did etc.
It was another Bitwig job – I really like Bitwig! So much I've been considering ordering a Bitwig t-shirt, lol.
Speaking of DAWs...Ableton Live 12 came out recently. I'll have to re-certify for that version soon, which won't be a prob. Geez it was a big update! Anyone got it yet?

🧢If you need a fresh shirt or a cap for the summer, I'll let you know I sell merch too thru my webshop. Everything ships internationally, with tracking.
• There will soon be a Metalheadz podcast which is a 120-to-175 BPM journey of 1.5 hours that came out pretty hecking decent! Should be out before the month is over. There is music from three of my producer tier Patrons actually! <3
• Thursday this week I'll be 44 years old. I love it!
I think my generation is kind of re-defining what you "can" do at this age. I'm looking forward to skateboarding this summer again.
Well what else. Well, after my full-length in 2024, I said I wouldn't work on an album too soon...well guess what's already happening…geez! Well I just love doing it you know?
Btw just want to say big thanks to everybody supporting my music, still. It feels good.
The world of music is weirder than ever, with literally every single person making music, so getting heard amidst all the ever-self-generating social noise is so difficult.
But I'm doing it for myself like I've been doing it since 1992. Releasing music is just a part of the process, and only then it's finished (for me).
Anyways, hope everyone's good. Don't be a stranger, leave a comment!

Wanted to drop some synth sound design inspo nuggets your way.

This year I'll be giving you plenty of mix and master tips in the form of smaller nuggets.
Today, let's talk about how to keep an element on top of the mix. The techniques I use are basic yet efficient, and that is all that matters. When you have a vocal or some important element in the song that has to take the lead, this should help.
What I am doing here is sort of subtle, but you can use this technique much more aggressively if you want.
Anyone want to see how to do this with Ableton Live natively btw? Can be done!
Any Qs, holler!
Will also soon give you a bigger update on all things here. Believe it or not, I was more or less for over two weeks, and today seems to be the day, FINALLY, that I feel better, so wanted to make this video for ya'll immediately.
New EP drops soon soon.
More mix and plugin tips will come steadily, you just wait!

I’ve been reminding myself of some older mixing techniques I used to use a lot some years ago.
Let’s revisit Bob Power’s low end kick technique to give a house kick some extra weight. Will work on any genre.
Try it if you’ve never done this and you may find it can really make your kick feel bigger!

These three little tips should allow you to have your beats sound a little more dynamic and human!
0:45 Not everything has to be full blast
2:52 Not everything has to be on the grid
4:39 Not everything has to be super bright all the time (I’d guess most producers don’t use the filter technique presented here)
7:20 Comparison
Anything you’d like to add?

If there is one widening type I'd love to eradicate and destroy, it's HAAS widening.

Let's kick off February with some mixing tips.
I have been mixing tons of music in January, and hey, I finished my first-ever full mix going for a major label…you will see more news about it on my socials once the time comes (for the record, it is not this song I am using on this video; the vocal on this video is from a Finnish singer, EllaZofia).
I am using Valhalla Delay for this added vocal ambience, and as you can hear it's quite versatile, and its different modes do a lot.
Use your headphones for best experience and hear the subtle changes.
BTW I will definitely do more mixing stuff in the near future, and especially do these shorter mixing tips with one plugin and have your hear the difference.
Happy mixing – much more mixing is coming, I have a plugin giveaway or two lined up etc!

In my Ableton Live 12 features post back in Nov 2023, I went through many features that Live 12 offers. I didn't fully get the Scale feature back then (sorry!) and it's been bugging me ever since, and I want to get into that and explain it better.
Hence, here's a quick video for ya'll demonstrating how you can use this "scale-awareness" to create melodies and chords that all stay in the relevant scale.
You can change the scale that devices/clips/notes follow pretty easily now!
Any Qs? Ask, and I'll try and answer.
Much more Live 12 content coming! Gotta love it.
Live 12 should be released in "early 2024". It's a huge update.
I'm in the alpha and beta teams and have been reporting bugs and all that.
I've also been making noise about some other good stuff that matters…can't say what :P

This one's been a looooong time coming!
Addictive Drums 2 is among the best tools these days to play and create realistic-sounding drums, use different kits etc.
In this video, I'm showing you how it works, and I make a jungle beat from scratch, tweaking the sounds close to my liking, going thru most of the features the plugin offers and which you need to know to craft your own sounds.
Another product I have bought, so I am not trying to sell it to you.
Let's get drumming! 🥁
PS: Will get the Collections done soon, I swear; got really really busy with client work again; did take a look the other day and realized It will take some work for sure, for content from over 3.5 years, and I gotta tidy up some tags too....but it will be worth it, so it will come (so there'll something resembling playlists for all my content here).

Been having a lot of fun with Addictive Drums 2 on the holiday, doing a bit of a refresher.
Listen to how that badboy sounds!
There will be a tutorial coming, as it's probably the most requested topic.
I'm trying to cover most of it that matters – honestly it's pretty dang deep and there are so many things you can do…it's a true tweaker's fest.
The tutorial video session will only be available to paying members (except the lowest tier).
Seems I'm getting lots of free members every day: a kind word to free members: you are very, very welcome, but I don't do much free content really :-)
The whole point of (my) Patreon is a fair exchange: I make content, and my followers (hopefully/ideally) support me, and get access to the content. The more supporters I get, the more encouraged I am to create content.
E.g., if I have 1,000 paying supporters in the tiers one day, this will probably be all I will do for my living…you know how it goes!
I'm a freelancer who has been hell-bent in terms of making this music expertise I have my living for a long time now...it's my life's mission.
Anyways, I hope everyone's landed safely in 2024.

Happy 2024 everybody!
As promised, here is a brand new Short Studio Masterclass video for you.
I've been working on a song on my holiday using Bitwig Studio. The video isn't very Bitwig-specific (I'm still learning. Would you like to see more Bitwig antics by the way?)
Also, you will get an unreleased song: download Free Fall (WIP).
If the song gets signed, I will remove the link!
Topics and timecodes:
(I do talk about more things as I go, but these are the main ones):
• 5:50 Clipping the bass
• 9:50 Bass XXL
• 11:40 multiband processing
• 14:00 about kick/bass separation
• 18:00 Soothe – what does it do and how to use it?
• 24:00 Transitional elements
• 32:54 Drumworks / Bitwig clip stuff
• 44:04 Bitwig distortion + why and how to create "a gain rack" (<- not DAW-specific)
By the way, if I'm correct, this is my 200th Patreon post! Stoked.
It's been a great run, and I'm more encouraged than ever, I won't lie!
Once again, want to thank everybody for the ongoing support. Rocking this Patreon thing has been one of the best decicions I've made in my career.
BTW do you have any new year's resolutions? Me, not really, other than trying to keep it as good as it was in 2023. Also, would love to hear your thoughts on what you'd like to see me cover.
PS: I'm officially returning to work in a week, on Jan 8, and can then start scheduling stuff for one-to-one sessions etc again. Taking off one more week before the usual work madness begins!

So here is short studio masterclass #2.
Not a new video, but I just explained in an earlier post today with episode 1 why I am "moving" these from Youtube to Patreon. Also there's an older episode 3 – and a fresh new one (episode 4) will drop very soon in 2024 so stay tuned!

Alrighty dear patrons and studio minded peeps!
What we have here is an older video of mine that has only been on Youtube so far. However, I have now made it unlisted, so it will not be found on Youtube anymore (only on Patreon).
At one point I started this idea of these "short studio masterclasses" and want to keep them going.
What I do on short studio masterclasses is I go thru several things about a song I have been working on: mixing tips, plugins, songwriting thoughts etc. I think it is a good concept and allows me to present several useful things in one video.
Why old episodes 1 and 2 pop up here now?
I will "move" more videos from Youtube to Patreon, so they'll be exclusive.
I haven't been doing much Youtube stuff, as it's yet another "free" streaming service that only earns me roughly 200 EUR a year – sheesh! – while I could live off of Patreon, so I am keeping my focus on what works well, making that grow. I am too old to offer free streaming hoping it'll earn me something. I massively appreciate everyone's support here on Patreon, and that is super encouraging and has kept me active with new material for 3.5+ years now 🙏🏻
So even though those two videos live on YouTube, they’re not visible there anymore.
Short studio masterclasses – new one coming!
Also, another reason for moving these two episodes here is there will soon be a fresh new one (episode 4), which will drop very soon once we make it to 2024. I’ll wait for a few days into the year, when everyone is back to the usual, before releasing episode 4.
You will also get an unreleased song of mine with ep. 4.
Very soon after this post you are reading, I will also post EPISODE 2 – and there is EPISODE 3 that I have posted on Patreon before, which I am also lumping under the same short studio masterclass tag (do notice tags on posts, which will let you search for similar material on my Patreon: e.g., here you will get all content tagged under Short Studio Masterclass).
Collections
What I will also do on the upcoming week is finally sort material into "collections" which will give a better overview of what I have here: I can create categories, and relevant material will show up under those; I haven't enabled those, but I believe they work like playlists, so there will be collections titled mixing, walkthroughs, studio masterclasses etc.
I will create a post about it once all that is done, so do look forward to that.
Chat
There’s been a community chat feature on Patreon for a while but it’s only on the phone app. I admit I hate typing on my phone. I’ve just posted a test message on the chat as Patreon says the web version is coming soon. I can’t promise to offer much phone-based chatting while I’ll be fine with it once I can rock it in my computer. So only testing it for now.
Wishing everybody a happy NYE! I will prob be working on some music tonight – surprise!
So a new video (short studio masterclass episode 4) post drops next week so see you there!

A quick thought to help you get your sub bass and kick right.
Ideal kick drum fundamental/peak sits an octave above your sub bass.
So if your sub is at say 50 Hz, kick ideally hits at 100.
So kick at octave higher than sub bass is sub bass freq x2.
It’s not always attainable with the elements you have chosen, and there are few actual rules in mixing – but it’s a good guideline when picking the elements for bass music, and makes for a very clean mix in terms of low end if you can achieve this or get close.
Note that in some styles like oldskool hip hop, the kick may hit lower than the bass.
Also don’t forget to try and pitch the kick up and down for better energy: it’s happened to me so many times over the years that EQ won’t fix it, but pitching the kick has fixed the issue immediately.
Also remember to keep your kicks as short as possible if you have a subby bass.
Make these a good habit and see if the clarity gets better in your mix!

I got interviewed by a legendary DNB journalist, Dave Jenkins for his blog, 1 More Thing.
🗣 INTERVIEW can be read here on 1 More Thing Blog.
I also made a 45-minute mix of my own productions to go with the interview.
🎧 DJ MIX IS HERE
The mix starts with FatGyver stuff (hip hop) and proceeds into Fanu (DNB) and goes back.
📥 If you want to download the mix and are on any tier other than the lowest one, just DM me.
🧢 BTW those breakbeats hats are available here on my webshop.
Hope you like, and I hope you're working on new music on holidays ya'll!
PS: Any songs there in the mix you'd like to see me cover on Patreon?

Recently, a DNB producer asked me how could come up with some random happy accidents in his drum patterns. Well, I always program my own quite meticulously, as you have seen.
I happened to think of this old Photek method, and wanted to suggest this to him. He was delighted and said it feels perfect for introducing drum patterns he might not come up with naturally.
BTW I want emphasise that this is not at all about what you use for this. Any sampler/device/technique that prevents overlapping is enough.
It's only relevant to present this to you, too, so you can add this breakbeat method to your bag of tricks. Trust me, way more breakbeat content will come.
I even want to return to Apache again – another Apache ;)
Also a new walkthru is coming soon. Aaaand a lot more is planned.
Me, just entered holiday zone, finally, after having to move goalposts a bit. Phew!
Will be creating Patreon content for ya'll on my holiday, but I'm not doing one-to-one sessions or personal mix/song feedback until I return to work on Jan 8, which is when I will start planning my actual work queue with one-to-one sessions, personal feedback etc.

Got a new DNB remix thing out on Beat Machine Records.
Pablo Dread: “Hardcore Blips” (Beat Machine Records)
Behind the first link, you can also hear the original.
Had a lot of fun making this one! Label owns the song so cannot give it away, but would a walkthru be nice?
Did this one all inside Bitwig Studio (as well as the Source Direct remix that is coming out soon and whose early release copies already sold out).

I've been trying to think of a synth that might be the end-all-be-all tool for me, and I believe I may have found it. I just bought Phase Plant after many recommendations for it, as I was asking around what the best option might be.
I am honestly stoked about this synth. What I always do first is work on some basses and see how conveniently that works out, and wanted to make a video of just that. This thing is just great. Modular too.
I will most definitely be posting more.
Wub wub wub!
PS: My holidays are very close and I am now closing all submissions for this year (meaning if you submit things for feedback, I will add it to my queue and get to it in 2024). Everything that has come in so far (feedback etc) I will handle next week, by Dec 8 at the latest.
Also, I will not be able to book in more sessions for this year. Happy to book things for 2024.

Yo everybody!
Hope you've all been well and productive. Me, been having the insane end-of-the-year grind: so many clients wanting things to be done before end-year deadlines, and patrons too ;P
First: plugin giveaway 🎛
Doing a plugin giveaway for Native Instruments Poly 8.
Should you want it, let me know
All you gotta do is leave a comment and be an active subscriber to my Patreon in December: I'll randomly pick the winner on Dec 15 and inform the winner.
Second: holiday 🗓
It's been a record-setting year for me on all fronts, and even the sickest always-grinding dudes like me need a break at some point. Looking like I'm taking time off of things, for a much-needed full reset, around Dec 8 – Jan 2 🤘🏻🎅🏻
During that time, I can respond on Patreon (although I aim to check my messages much less often than usually, which is one of the big things for me on holiday – I live in my messages and emails normally, but will be doing less of that during that time).
I will not be doing any of the usual during that time: Zoom sessions, video feedback, or written feedback for producer tier people.
Third: more stuff coming 🕹
The year ain't over…I got more Patreon content coming for ya'll in December 2023, still.
So stay tuned 😉
BTW, looking like there'll be a Patreon community chat soon-ish: it already exists for phone app, which I don't want to use, but the page says, "Chats on web is coming soon", so let's hope that'll open up soon. Will let ya'll know if/when that happens!

Wanted to do a high-level checkout, but it's still 30+ mins....phew.
This is by far the biggest Live update I've ever seen...it's huge, and I'm not just saying that.
Been using it for months now myself, being in the Ableton alpha team.
I'm STOKED about this one.
This was all unscripted: I thought we (alpha testers and certified trainers) would hear about a date when it's announced, so would have a little bit of time to plan a video. Well, at least I wasn't aware of a date, so as I saw the accouncement today, started *immediately* fiming this so my community would get it all fresh <3
Some of the features are subject to change before release, and some things (like global scale feature) may not work 100% as expected yet. Also there will be microtuning (so I'm sure Aphex Twin will be an Ableton user, haha), but I'm not sure it works yet...maybe I'll cover some of that later. But even this is a lot. Hope you can sit thru it.
Enjoy!
Any Qs? Ask me, and I'll try to answer!

Yoooo!
I hope everybody's been mega productive!
This period of the year is really good for me in terms of working on bass music and darker vibes and all that – while summer is nicer for hip hop (if you don't know, check out my hip hop stuff as FatGyver on Bandcamp or Spotify).
Finished two DNB tunes this weekend – I hope you all have been working on some magic too.
One thing that's been on my video to-do list for a long time – and which also has been requested a few times – is creating a custom breakbeat from separate parts. So I wanted to do just that. I'm picking a few random drumsounds to create a breakbeat of my own. This is something I really like to do and would love to encourage many ppl to try out.
On the video, I'm using TAL Drum, which is a great plugin for drums (this is not an ad: I bought it, as I love the company and their great, inexpensive and also free plugins). Not going thru all it offers, but I'll go thru some of its very handy features.
Technically any DAW can do this, absolutely, and you don't even need an audio editor for this either (I'm using one a little bit here, doing the same thing I did on my previous video).
BTW, do you feel these embedded videos are ok, or did you prefer the uploaded video files? I've been embedding more in hopes of ppl not sharing the video files.
Man there is a lot to stuff on the pipeline…stay tuned, and thanks for all the support!
PS: The community chat still hasn't been enabled for browsers, so it's still on the phone app. The day the browser chat is enabled, I'll open it (I kind of cannot stand typing much on my phone!)
